From Andrews & Dunham Damn Fine Tea

Is your 2012 off to a rough start? Are you spending more time than usual worrying about impending doom and the end of the world as we know it? Relax already. Have some dragon tea! Here at the Andrews & Dunham World Headquarters Survival Bunker, we’re once again celebrating the ancient and enduring nature of the Chinese calendar. Ancient as represented by this lovely Dragonwell Green Tea, the world’s first flavored beverage (excluding the sweet blood of our enemies, of course). Brew up a pot and enjoy the existential camaraderie of 5,000 years’ worth of tea-drinking humans. You might want to set out some cookies. Enduring as represented by our great optimism that this year will indeed be followed by yet another. And hey, if the end is really near we could use a few dragons on our side!

The very attractive and dignified labels for this limited edition of 100 tins were designed and hand printed by Aesthetic Apparatus in Minneapolis.

This Dragonwell Green Tea produces a rich, buttery, alertness-inducing brew. Heat your water until it’s almost-but-not-quite boiling and add leaves. Steep for 3 minutes.

This is an excellent Dragonwell, one of the best I’ve tried. It has a light buttery quality to it, smooth and rich but at the same time, very light and soothing. I am loving this oh so much.

I always fret before placing an order with Andrews & Dunham because their products are a little pricy, but, after I’ve tried the tea, I’ve yet to think “wow, I feel ripped off” – I always feel that I’ve definitely gotten my moneys worth with the tea I order from them, and this time is no exception. It’s superb!

At the end of summer I did some major reflecting and came to the conclusion that I didn’t know (and still don’t know) my straight teas very well. I vowed that I would make a noticeable effort to search out and compare “noteworthy” teas and learn how to brew them properly. I randomly decided to start with the accessible Dragonwell. I bought this brand, some from Silk Road, and a bag from Mighty Leaf, and… then I ran out of money. It’s a testament to this type of tea that, despite unintentional abuse on my part, all three of my “specimens” came out tasting yummy.

With the international shipping cost this Dragonwell was undoubtedly the most expensive. I was really nervous as I had never heard of this company except for word of mouth here on Steepster. I still don’t know what possessed me to try this as my first tea from Andrews & Dunham but I don’t regret the decision.

This is an insanely buttery green. Have you ever had boiled green veggies so soft and natural that they feel like they are melting in your mouth while performing serenades across your tongue? If yes, then you have a vague understanding of what this tea is like. It’s so soothingly creamy and invigoratingly awesome that it leaves me in a stupor. I feel unworthy reviewing it. When it runs out I’ll be sad for I fear I’m too cheap to order more of something that is limited anyways. I will always cherish the time I had with you, flirty buttery tea. There are a lot of pretty green leaves stuffed in the tin so that is slightly consoling.

Thanks CrowKettle for the sample! (Took me long enough to try it /0\)

I have to agree with the others that this is a very nice, and damn fine dragon well tea. It’s lightly vegetal and very buttery. How would I compare this to the one from Verdant? IDK. :| But I do know that this is much nicer than the dragonwell I bought from Murchies.

I’m looking forward to resteeping this all afternoon!

EDIT: I wanted to make sure I wasn’t misremembering the murchie’s dragonwell so I made some of that to sip side-by-side. It’s far less buttery than the Dragon Power, and it tastes very spinacy/sea-weedy. It really reminds me of the Tie Guan Yin oolong I ordered from there. So, not as smooth and delicate and buttery as the Dragon Power.

OOh, this is good stuff. Mild, but not weak. Hits the spot on a soggy day.

Boy, they weren’t kidding about buttery. This is a smooth tea with perhaps a milder green tea twang (that’s the technical term) usual, and a buttery aftertaste. Brewed at 195, which I thought was a bit high for a dragon well tea, but this seems to take it well.
It’s a good afternoon calm-me-down pick-me-up. Yes, in this tea they seem to co-exist nicely.
