From Ajiri Tea Company

Also referred to as Red Tea or Red Bush Tea, Rooibos is a shrub-like plant indigenous to the Cape region of South Africa. Caffeine-free and naturally high in antioxidants, Rooibos has a smooth, deep, earthy flavor with a distinctive sweet aroma. It makes a delightful cup of tea, hot or cold. Labels are handmade by women in western Kenya. Each label is a unique work of art, made using dried banana leaves. The bag inside of each box is tied with twine made of dried banana leaves, and decorated with brightly colored beads made of recycled magazine paper. All profits from sales of Ajiri Tea are donated to the Ajiri Foundation, which pays school fees for orphans in western Kenya.

This is easily one of my favorite straight rooibos teas. It’s woody, sweet, and soothing. I also really like the company’s mission/process. The tea itself is produced on a cooperative farm. The women who pick it are paid a fair wage, and they also hand-make the labels and beads. 100% of the net profits from the business are used to pay school fees and buy books and uniforms for orphans. Bonus: the boxes are very lovely and I always keep them for their aesthetic value. Sadly, this is a sipdown, but I expect to restock soon(ish).
