A sipdown. Made a big pot to use it up because after trying the other Adagio flavored whites, this is definitely my least favorite. As it suffers by comparison, I’m lowering the rating some.

The BF likes it though, and since I’m working from home today, I am planning to do a lot of sharing. ;-)

I steeped this shorter this time, 2.5 minutes, which did improve the flavor. It takes the edge off the very, very sweet, to the point of cloying, flavoring.

The main issue I have with the flavor is that it seems more like a generic, sugar syrup has been added to this than anything else. Yes, I do get an aroma and some taste of very sweet coconut, and a very small hint of pineapple, but the sugar water flavor is primary. And unfortunately, at least for me, it’s the flavoring attempt to make it more than a generic sweetness that doesn’t succeed.

At a shorter steep time, it’s at least not doing a number on my stomach. After the initial, longer steep, not only did I feel as though I had a rock in my stomach for a while afterward, the aroma stuck with me much longer than it had any business doing, and made me have some bouts of queasiness for the remainder of the day.

TheTeaFairy

This one doesn’t sound too good, eh? Good that you can pass it along to the BF. (Second hand tea)

Yeah, it’s kind of a jack sprat thing with us. He’s never met something sweet or spicy he doesn’t like, and I tend to prefer subtlety. So it works!

Tea 5 from “Another Travelling Tea Box?!?!”

Very similar to White Peach because it has that same over-ripe fruit taste. Meh. I guess 3rd time is not the charm in this case. I will happily put these back in the box for someone else to enjoy.

JustJames

yup, this one was wrong for me as well.

caile

Oh no! I was hoping there would be a good one.

Lariel of Lórien

It’s better as a cold brew.

Fuzzy_Peachkin

I don’t think I want to try them as a cold brew. Besides there are so many other teas in the tea box to try! :-)

Tea #5 from Another Traveling Tea Box

I was really curious to try this one, as the reviews are overwhelmingly negative and that kind of thing makes one wonder.

So, I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I might (I was able to finish my cup). The coconut (as I couldn’t find the pineapple) tasted toasted and not quite on, and the tea itself was yeasty and reminded me of beer.

Overall, I really feel like I might know what melted suntan lotion tastes like now.

first of all… thank you ShortSorceress for this sample!

it smells good… just the right tangy ping from the pineapple, a lovely warmth from the coconut… … and then i added water. as soon as it moved from a dry blend and started billowing steam i started to smell a dog trying to pull a little girl’s bathing suit off in the old coppertone commercials.

this one was just wrong for me, though i have no clue why. instead a sunset over the water and relaxation i got ancient commercials and the recalled crunch of sand in my tuna sandwich. the weighted blend of the ingredients was off for this tea fan =0(

no numerical rating.

signing off from bc ferries… we’ll reach the mainland and our hotel soon. yay! a kettle and a nice cup of tea after crazy traffic.

Oh man what did I do wrong?
This tastes like…like…bread???
There’s a yeasty or malty note that reminds me of beer. Am I crazy? (Maybe.) I can taste a bit of the coconut, too, towards the end, but it’s this other bread-flavor that dominates.

It’s gross, to be honest. I’m disappointed. I followed Adagio’s instructions, so what happened? Le sigh. I don’t know whether I’ll give this another chance. I mean, it could be awesome, but is it worth mucking around to find out?

I do not like their new parameters for whites, they’re even worse than the old ones. I’d try 140-160 for 1-3min, but go up to 7 if you need to.

Jillian

I agree with Cofftea, Adagio’s steeping parameters are on the high side, so try cutting back the time and temp and see what that does for you. Actually from reading the other reviews this tea has struck out with a few people. :D

Cofftea

Adagio’s steeping parameters, in general, have improved… but obviously NOT w/ whites. :(

I requested this tea specifically, because I couldn’t believe that it was so disliked, and needed to see for myself. Now I see why. The description of this tea doesn’t match the flavour. I don’t hate the tea, but it certainly is not reminiscent of a tropical journey to sunny beaches. It actually has no flavour except for the white tea base. I’m ok with white tea, and that’s all this tea is…an unflavoured, ‘flavoured’ white tea.

Thank you Short Sorceress for a sample of this tea!

A lot of people really disliked this tea so when it showed up in the Travelling Teabox I decided to give it a try out of morbid curiosity.

The smell wasn’t too promising – it was an oddly yeasty, almost spoiled sort of scent with a bit of fruitiness mixed in. I reduced the steeping time dramatically from what Adagio recommended to see if that helped.

It wasn’t too bad at first – it tastes a bit dusty, and a bit fruity. But the aftertaste – dear god it’s horrible! It tastes similar to how it smells – strongly yeasty, like the tea has gone off. And it lingers. A lot – I can taste it on each breath. Bleh, this has to be the first time I’ve dumped a cup of tea after just one sip, but this aftertaste is making me gag.

You’d think that something with the word ‘tropics’ in the title couldn’t go wrong, but somehow Adagio still managed to create massive Tea Fail out of it. This doesn’t even taste remotely like anything I’d associate with the tropics. I mean yeast? Come on!

There’s always the chance that the tea really is spoiled, so I’m debating chucking this in the garbage rather than back in the TTB. Thoughts?

*chugs cranberry juice to get rid of the taste *

I got this tea at a wedding I attended! It was the favor and our place cards were attached to it. Nice idea :)

This is my first experience with a white tea. The tea leaves almost looked like bay leaves. Interesting!!!

The tea liquor is a pretty golden color. First sip – I taste a sort of tea taste with an overlay of the flavoring. I really don’t like the flavor – I think it’s supposed to be coconut and pineapple, but I think it tastes like the fake butter people put on popcorn with a dash of suntan lotion!!!! Bleah!!!

I am going to finish this cup, but I’m not resteeping and this tin is going into the traveling teabox!!

EDIT: Cofftea suggesting trying it at a 3 minute steep time. I did a cup at 3 minutes/180F and the tea tastes good, but that fakebuttersuntanlotion is faint but there, and it’s just too artificial for my liking. Again, I’ll finish the cup, but out into the world it goes! If one of you happen to choose it from the TTB, lessening the suggested steep time is a great suggestions and improves it ALOT :)

EDIT2: This tea is growing on me as it cools. I think I’m going to keep it for an afternoon cuppa, but I wouldn’t buy it. I would up the rating to oooooh, a 51 at a 3 min steep time. Cofftea – you’re a tea saver :)

EDIT3: and now I have a stomachache!!!!! I never get stomachaches! It’s going in the box again!!

I love the wedding favors, but the varieties they come in don’t thrill me personally. I’d rather do my own.

Ricky

Ahhh, too much tea and not enough food =( I hate stomachaches, I get it often…. for no reason!

JacquelineM

Ricky – I think I psyched myself into a stomachache thinking about fake butter suntan lotion in my tea. Uuuuugggghhhhhhhh. White Tropics is now in the punishment area of the tea cupboard with that Seaweed Japanese Sencha!!!

So I drank some loose leaf yesterday (backlogging again) just because I hadn’t in a while, and this was one from Azzrian I hadn’t tried.

This was…okay, I guess. It wasn’t what I was expecting.

Smell: The coconut is definitely there. No Pineapple, and the coconut almost smells burnt and a little weird. But I like coconut, so I figured I’d try it.

Taste: The coconut is there, but it isn’t a strong, sweet taste like I was expecting, and the pineapple was kind of in the mix but to me it mixed wrong. So it was a weird sweet/burnt/kind of tasteless at times tea.

I finished it, but it wasn’t that great.

Number 1 from “Another Travelling Tea Box”

I’ve been getting into white tea lately so chose this one for my first tea. I loved the nose: it seemed floral, but probably should say honeydew, since this is tropical fruit. The taste was disappointing: kind of disjointed. There is also a little bitterness underneath the flavor, which lingers into the finish. Not bad but not something I would buy more of.

As I drank this down, I kept lowering my rating. I seemed to notice the bitterness more, and the fruit less.
