From 52teas

Tea of the Week for November 8, 2021!

My approach to this blend was similar to one of my all-time favorites: Lime Jello Salad Green Tea. For those of you who have been fans of 52Teas since Frank’s era, you are probably aware that he originally crafted the Lime Jello Salad tea as a homage to the humble lime jello salad that graces many a Thanksgiving dinner table every year. You know the salad I’m talking about, right? The green jello with pineapple and marshmallows in it? Usually molded in a round “bundt cake” like mold. Yeah, you can envision it, can’t you?

So, as much as I love that Lime Jello Salad Green Tea, I wanted to do a spin-off of that, but with Green Rooibos. This time, featuring Tangerine & Cranberries! Imagine a tangerine jello, bedazzled with cranberries & marshmallows! That’s what we have here!

It starts with organic, naturally caffeine-free green rooibos, blended with tangerines & cranberries – plus some lemon grass & marshmallow root. This is so good! Bright, sweet tangerines combined with tart & tangy cranberries & soft, creamy marshmallow notes.

It’s caffeine-free, gluten-free, vegan, allergen-free, organic & all natural too!

organic ingredients: green rooibos, lemongrass, marshmallow root, cranberries, tangerines & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch to make sure that all the ingredients are well-incorporated. Use 3 ½ grams of leaf to 12oz of very hot water (190°F) & allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. Enjoy!

This tea tastes great served hot, but I like it even better as it cools. Great without sweetener, while a wee bit of sugar will enhance the overall sweetness of this dessert-y tea & make it taste more like a “jello salad”.

The green rooibos here is lovely, as ever. It’s mildly fruity, but mostly just green rooibos. I’m certainly enjoying it, but it’s not as amazing as some other green rooibos blends from 52teas. Still very refreshing and pleasant cold! I enjoy the cranberry flavor, but it makes me wish I were drinking crisp cranberry soda, which I keep at work.

For the sipdown prompt, “a cranberry tea.”

The smell of the dry leaf is really lovely; it smells like creamsicle, with a slightly sharper edge to it that does read closer to tangerine than orange. That aroma also comes through in the steeped tea… sharp citrus and a pillowy, creamy vanilla.

I’m one of the few (it seems) that just can’t seem to taste/detect cranberry in teas (I have had this problem across the board with cranberry teas in general). I really just get a lovely creamsicle flavor, with a bit more of a tart edge to the citrus than you would get from the ice cream, though it still has that creamy vanilla/marshmallow tone to it. I got a bit more of a cranberry note as my cup cooled, but it was still pretty subtle. Though I did recall that I had better luck with “Crisp Cranberry Soda” when prepared cold, so I decided to start coldbrewing this tea, and it is a very satisfying cold, thirst-quenching tea. I still don’t really taste the cranberry, though… but that isn’t really a complaint. This is reminding me of an orange version of “Sun and Cloud Mist.” I really like the citrus/marshmallow combo Anne does in teas… lemon, lime, tangerine, they are all great! It just works so well with that creamy sweet vanilla-esque flavor.

Looking back at my notes, it looks like the cranberry popped the most in flavor for me when I actually added carbonation to “Crisp Cranberry Soda,” so I think I’ll try my next coldbrew batch as tea pop.

(52teas (Anne) 2022: 33)

I’m trying to make an actual effort to temper my caffeine intake, especially at night… which means trying to get through some herbal/uncaffeinated teas. This one I was actually interested in trying, though; cranberry orange with green rooibos? Sounds promising! Turns out that it’s actually fairly tasty, too. Leans a tad towards bubblegum, but is more orange/tangerine, with a hint of what I guess would be cranberry flavouring. The base works really well here to add some depth and lightness, almost… hard to describe, but I feel like it conveys “salad” to an extent? Either way, quite a pleasant blend, and the second honeybush/rooibos that I’ve tried recently from 52teas that I’m actually enjoying.

ETA: Finished my cup cold in the morning: delicious. Resteeped and got more cranberry, less bubblegum: delicious.
