Tea of the Week for December 14, 2020!

My original plan for this week’s tea went somewhat awry when I did not have enough of the ingredients I needed to properly create the tea I had intended to create. So, I needed to think fast & I came up with this tea idea & I’m so happy with what I came up with! This is so yummy!

The chocolate is forward. I get a nice vanilla note too – it melds with the chocolate to offer a very creamy aspect to the chocolate-y notes. The cranberries hit about mid-sip as a bit of tartness & the flavor continues to develop on the palate. The aftertaste is distinctly cranberry tart with a smooth, delicious chocolate tone. Really, really good!

This tea starts with a blend of Laoshan & Fujian black teas – both of these are known for their chocolate-y qualities – I thought they’d make for a perfect base for this blend. Then I added some vanilla bean, a bunch of freeze-dried cranberries, cacao nibs & shells as well as some dark chocolate chips (they’re VEGAN) & some marshmallow root.

This delightfully delicious blend is VEGAN, gluten free & allergen free!

ingredients: black teas, vegan chocolate chips (cane sugar, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter)

organic ingredients: cranberries, cacao shells, cacao nibs, marshmallow root, vanilla beans & natural flavors

November 2022 → A cranberry tea

I’m so sad I waited so long to try this one! It came as a sample with an order I place last year, but I never opened it until now. I’ve since learned my lesson with 52Teas blends – if the tea is still available by the time my order arrives, I’m trying it right away so I can decide if I need to place another order immediately. This is one I certainly missed out on purchasing.

(52teas (Anne) 2022: 238)

I’m drinking hot tea! It’s a miracle! I actually cannot remember the last time I drank tea hot during the day, although it does happen rarely in the evenings. (For the moment, at least, my daughter is content to lay on her back on her quilt instead of being held 24/7. I can only hope it lasts like this for at least a few days!)

This is another tea I sweeear I had drank and recorded, but maybe I just drank it last year and didn’t write a tasting note. Doesn’t matter, it’s delicious. Anne’s “recipe” for chocolate teas has truly been perfected and just tastes fantastic, and there’s just a smidge of tart fruit behind the rich, velvety chocolate. Reminds me of chocolate covered berries, except better because the chocolate isn’t waxy and there are basically no calories here.

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 3

Whenever teas have “Cream” in the name I’m intrigued. This is no exception. Not sure how I feel about chocolate and cranberry and cream together, which is potentially why I never owned this but thankfully Roswell Strange tossed it into the Strange VariaTEA TTB, so I get to try it now.

It’s not overly sweet. Ros’s note mentions Brookside chocolates and honestly I see it. That sort of dark chocolate covered fruit vibe. It’s got both the chocolate and cranberry flavours pretty accurate. Is it creamy though? About as creamy as a dark chocolate would be. It’s nice, though not one I think I’d reach for beyond this sample.

Sipdown (1391)!

Like drinking a mug of Brookside Chocolate!! Basically like a creamy milk chocolate coated cranberry – rich and yummy and a much better balance of those main flavours that the first time I steeped this one up. Very happy with this mug.

From the December subscription box.

I’ve only tried two out of the five teas from this box, so I’d better get cracking!

This is nice for a chocolate tea. For some reason, Anne’s chocolate flavoring doesn’t seem to bother me as much as others, or maybe there isn’t chocolate flavoring, just the cacao nibs and shells and the chocolate chips. This is reminding me quite a bit of the Clark black tea from October, it has a similar chocolate flavor profile. I’m getting a bit of nuttiness too, maybe from the base teas.

But this one is a bit more like a creamy chocolate with a hint of vanilla and perhaps raspberry or cherry. The fruit note doesn’t specifically say “cranberry” to me, but it does have a nice tartness to it.

It’s yummy! Creamy milk and dark chocolate with a hint of tart fruit.

Same, I have issues with the chocolate flavoring in a lot of teas, but I like the 52Teas one.

This tastes exactly as the name would lead you to believe. Cranberry and dark chocolate, with a touch of creaminess.
