From 52teas

Following the success of our Razzleberry (Raspberry & Blackberry) blend and iced tea, I thought we’d give it a try with our genmaicha. And I am not sorry!

Here’s our toasty Japanese genmaicha considerably cheered-up with the sweet and tart flavors of raspberry and blackberry. This is a unique summertime blend of genmaicha, and the combination of the sea-sprayed Japanese sencha, toasty brown rice and berry goodness makes me think of a picnic on the beach.

Sipdown!! (206)

I LOVE my new kettle. The “keep warm” feature is awesome. I brewed Buddha’s Blend and Eggnog & Pralines at 180F and left the kettle while I cooked dinner. As I cooked I got a chance to try Buddha’s Blend and after dumping that I still had water at a perfect temperature to brew this.

Compared to the cherry cheesecake genmaicha I had earlier, this has a bit more flavor. There is a hint of berry if I focus but mostly it is a grassy genmaicha flavor. I am really unimpressed with these especially given Marshmallow Treat is what got me interested in genmaichas in the first place given all its flavor. At least now I can definitively say these are not for me and not wonder if I would like them when I see them on the website. Thank you Scheherazade for sharing this with me and giving me the chance to try this tea.

Sipdown (201/205)!

Thanks VariaTEA for the sample. This was barely even on my radar prior to receiving it (I was much more interested in the Cheesecake Genmaichas that Frank has done), but it certainly is now. I was really quite pleasantly surprised with how flavourful it was.

Honestly, I was kind of conflicted by the flavours because it was total puffed wheat and then juicy berries which in my mind equates to some kind of gross soggy cereal type mess, but it was actually phenomenal in practice and I thought very well balanced and interesting with great contrasting yet complimenting flavours.

I even made the effort to resteep it, which I basically never do, and was impressed that the fruit flavour (which somewhat deteriorated) was still detectable. I would buy a full pouch of this one, and I’ve also added it to my wish/shopping list.

I’m glad you liked this one. You didn’t ask for it, which I was surprised, but I figured it was a genmaicha so you should try it.

Well this is a delightful tea indeed. I think I have another bag around somewhere in the room of boxes but I bought another one because I wanted some of the sugar plum and some kittea for the new kitten. He’s a handful but I haven’t seen him high on catnip yet. (He’s 8 months so it’s safe).

I forgot I was using the smaller mugs today so I over-sugared but the sweetness does it well, though I will do less for the next cup. The genmaicha is just the right flavour of toasty and the razzleberry is delicious. I am impressed, Frank. Truly I am.

are there age/safety ranges for kittens and catnip? i had no idea.

Starfevre

below six month it is not recommended. Sometimes it can make them sick but that is rare. most of the time they just do not react.

JustJames

good to know, still better to be safe.

Tabby

My kitty doesn’t react to catnip, which is kind of disappointing since I grow it.

Starfevre

It happens. My Hikaru doesn’t get jazzed at all, she just wants to eat it. It’s good for digestion so sometimes I sprinkle it on her food, or let her lick for some seconds from the container of it.

Sipdown! Pretty tasty, but I think I’d prefer a raspberry cream genmaicha, because otherwise there’s a bit of a divide between the toastiness and the sharp raspberry flavouring. Still a good cup, but I want creaminess. Therefore I’m regretting my decision not to pick up Strawberry Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha :(

Backlog:

Yum! I love the nutty flavor of the genmaicha together with the sweet-tart berry notes. This is good hot, but even better iced. It became one of my favorite summertime treats.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this one, and I have to say that I’m pretty happy with it. I had my first steep in my Timolino for my afternoon classes, and I’m just enjoying the second steep here as I prepare for my lab tomorrow morning.

The thing I like the most about this one is that you can still taste the non-genmaicha flavours in the second steep. I found the other flavoured genmaichas had only the first steep with flavour, then it was essentially regular genmaicha from there on out.

Both the raspberry and blackberry are evident and not fake tasting at all. The scent of the dry tea seemed like the flavours might come out too overwhelming, but they seem to be just right. This will be a nice switch up from my normal genmaicha every so often.

I was recently reminded that I still have a bit of this left. Since I’ve been on a cold brew kick, that’s exactly what I did with this tea. The tea had a very strong genmaicha toasty taste at first followed immediately by a mixed berry (mostly raspberry) flavor afterward. Not sure how to say this better, but the flavors seemed really sharp. Maybe some sweetener of some sort would help mellow it out and blend together? Not really sure cause I never really add anything to my teas, but maybe it is worth trying out.

I need to give this tea another shot when I am willing to be a bit more patient. This time, the generic ha was the dominant taste and I really found myself looking for the fruit taste. I think this tea has potential though, so I am going to try brewing it a few different ways and maybe try a bit of sweetener and see where that gets me. Hopefully I have some more success with it!

I like genmaicha a lot and I thought I would prefer plain genmaicha to berry genmaicha, but I was to surprised to find that I enjoyed this a lot. It tasted like genmaicha + berries (as simple as that). While I might still prefer plain genmaicha, this is perfectly tasty.

(Sample from silentrequiem. Thanks!)

Debbie

If you want the rest of this let me know. I did not like it very much.

Christina

Sure, but there’s no hurry. You just went to the post office so we can wait. :)
