From 52teas

I got my hands on some real, dried cantaloupe (it is lightly sugared and has some sulfur dioxide, but it’s beautiful and tasty!–I had to taste test it (it’s a tough job, but….))

Cantaloupe is such a delicate flavor. I couldn’t think of anything better to pair it with than our amazing Bai Mu Dan white tea, and the combination is stunning. You can almost feel the soft fruit in each sip. This is a luxurious tea. Please note that we packaged this in one ounce packages (10-12 cups) in order to make more affordable to everyone, but you can buy two pouches for $12.99, and I think you are going to want to take advantage of the discount on this one.

Just a sippin on some right now. A sample from Kittenna thank you!
Somehow I keep asking for or getting samples of this one haha but thats all good.
I really would like this more with a little sugar in it but my blood sugars are running high today as it is so I can’t touch the stuff.
Any whoooooo …. been one of those days – not productive so just going to go through some samples :) WOOT!

Kittenna

Hahaha, you definitely asked for this one!!

Azzrian

I thought so. For some reason I keep forgetting I have had this one.

I cold brewed a large pitcher of this a few days ago. The flavor is much sweeter and melon-y than hot brewed. It even gives that slightly prickly feeling in the back of the throat the real sweet ripe melons seem to! I have barely enough for a cup. I’m going to miss this when it’s gone. Slighty chocolatey and so fruity! It’s a wonderful tea hot or cold.

I brewed this last night for iced tea today… and it is FABULOUS! Absolutely love LOVE love this iced, so much so that I’ve increased the rating on it a bit.

Kittenna

Looking forward to this one!!

Doing my tea happy dance right now. Love this one. Getting funny looks from my co-workers. . But I think I get those anyway. Almost end of the work day! Yeah!

Batrachoid

My dance has a matching song. The crazy tea man pidgeon hole is a little more comfortable here I guess. I’d have expected Comcast would be kinder than a shipping yard. XD

Nichole/CuppaGeek

HAHA they are! But they still say I’m crazy!

I normally wouldn’t pair a fruity tea w/ a meal, but I had some left over tzatziki sauce from the Greek chicken we had for supper the other night so I had it w/ some fish sticks and served a 16oz glass of this w/ it.

Cucumber in the tzatziki echos the pickle in tartar sauce- bingo.

The melon (of course) pairs beautifully w/ the cucumber and comes across just as wonderful as it did when it was paired w/ cucumber for Frank’s Cucumber Melon Green Tea. I normally don’t get “juicy” from a tea like a lot of others do, but this is juicy. I had this cold so I think that added to the ease of me finding that quality.

Hey, Frank… what about a tzatziki tea?

Okay. When I first bought this I knew very little about white teas and foolishly assumed it wouldn’t be very different from the black teas I knew and loved. Now, however, I know more. For example, I know that I’m not a huge fan of white tea. It’s too subtle for my tastes and far too fussy in terms of steep temp. and time. However, I am revisiting this one in an effort to give my teas a more even spread.

Used hot water from spigot at work, let it cool 5 minutes, then steeped for 2 or 3 (didn’t do the “flash steep” as it is flavoured and I don’t know if it would work so well.) The flavour is sweet with a hint of under-ripe melon rind. It sort of reminds me of 52Teas Peach Cobbler green which I hated and swapped away. I can drink this, but it still isn’t a favourite, possibly because it seems SO sweet. Might like it more if I removed the dried cantaloupe pieces, but that seems like cheating. Sometimes white and green teas make me feel nauseous, hoping that isn’t the case with this one…I don’t know that I’m ever going to appreciate white teas, at this rate.

EDIT: As with my initial tasting of this tea, I find the smell a little off and I don’t like that. The taste is not objectionable, but the smell sort of brings it down a bit for me

KeenTeaThyme

I’ve had issues with Bai Mu Dan from 52Teas before – but I haven’t tried any other tea companies’ bai mu dan, so I don’t know if my taste buds are anti-bai mu dan or it’s something else. Glad to see I’m not alone… I’m super picky about white teas. The only one I’ve tried that I like is White Christmas, bagged, from Stash.

Sipdown! 981.

Another super oldie. But, was in a nice Mylar(?) package, and retained flavour, so it’s still fairly tasty. Nice cantaloupe flavour, mild creamy-ish base. I do greatly prefer Butiki’s Cantaloupe & Cream though, perhaps because it’s softer and creamier, though the actually melon flavour is reasonably similar.

Thanks LiberTEAs!
This wasn’t overly Cantaloupe-smelling but the taste is really great! It’s like the cantaloupe taste right near the rind if you know what I mean! YUM! Juicy and melony!

KeenTeaThyme

I love that taste of cantaloupe at the “end” by the rind – and the white part of watermelons. :) So I know exactly what taste you mean. Sounds delish!!

Uniquity

That is definitely the cantaloupe flavour of this tea!

Muiriddin

wow, I never would have thought of cantaloupe and tea. Depending upon what tea taste you get, I can see it working though…

Well I thought that this would be a great tea to cool off after a workout, I thought iced would be perfect with the flavor. This tea upon first sniff smells like alfalfa… hmmm not to sure about this! Once again the smell reminds me of home since I grew up on a farm where we grew alfalfa, but not sure I want to drink it!

I brewed this up and it was a very very pale light green liquor. The tea still smelled like alfalfa but now wet… not to appetitizing to me. First sip it is a very mellow tea, I mmostly taste the white tea which I do like but with just a bit of melon but the more towards the unripened melon. Not to sure about this.

After drinking the glass I decided that this tea was refreshing but not really sure I would buy it again. I really liked Frank’s Watermelon tea and was hoping that I would get that same juiceness but I didn’t get that from this tea.. maybe I need to mess around with time I steep.

Let me know if you can make it rock. I, too, am uncertain about this and my pouch sits on the shelf waiting for me to give it another go.

I’ve been reviewing a bunch of yerba mates and rooibos teas (rooiboses?) lately, and this is the perfect tea to cleanse the palate after the relative heaviness of those. The cup brews up light and sweet, but not too sweet, just the right amount of fruit sugar over a base that’s clearly a good quality white. Not quite summer in a cup, but it definitely gets me looking forward to the season…and maybe having a tall glass of this iced.

Rooibi? lol :) I love whites for palate cleansing. Had some after the tomato basil tea.

Sara

Rooibi, I love it haha! It just occurred to me that fruit is a natural palate cleanser after heavy meals or between courses…no wonder I went immediately to the cantaloupe! Whites are definitely great for this in general! Like a nice light fresh dessert. :)

Cofftea

True! I personally don’t care for fruit flavored teas for the most part. This is one is an exception though.
