Even though it’s still November, I feel this year that a little early holiday cheer is more and more necessary. So I’m planning, or hoping, to put our Christmas tree up this weekend. Speaking of, which holidays does everyone here celebrate?

This isn’t a holiday blend obviously, but I sit here drinking it with my favorite birch candle lit beside me so it feels festive. I opted for one teaspoon instead of my normal two after reading other tasting notes, and I might have a small inkling of regret over it. It’s malty and flavorful, though maybe not quite as strong as I would have liked. Perhaps two teaspoons would have been too much though, so I’m happy with my cup. I am still getting that caffeine buzz – I may not have been able to handle more!

So happy to be on the other side of the U.S. election and starting to hesitantly, slowly look forward to the upcoming holiday season. It will be so different this year. The fear of COVID, both of getting it myself and possibly spreading it unknowingly to others, keeps me at home most days. This will extend to holiday celebrations as well. My husband and I will stay home and have quiet celebrations together with our cats, while our families continue to meet. Part of me feels guilty and selfish, but a bigger part knows this is the right thing for us. I’m not sure our families understand – mine only teases me, but my husband has gotten some comments from his family that were definitely unnecessary. I worry for all of them because they aren’t taking it as seriously as I wish they would. At the beginning of the pandemic we tried to talk to them, to persuade them, but now I have given up worrying about them each day. They will make their choices and there isn’t much I can do except make my own. Which brings me back to the holidays (somewhat) and this tea, which reminds me of a holiday tea whether it’s meant to be one or not. I don’t taste a typical cookie flavor but it’s nutty and feels warming and festive.

I love Satori Teas, they have several favorites of mine. The primary flavor/aroma of this calls to mind a peach tea. It’s floral as well. I think I bought up all of their floral teas, lol. They are just so good.

I finished my sample of this so I know I’ve had it before, but I haven’t yet logged it here. It’s so deep and chocolaty, the best cup I’ve had the last couple of weeks. I haven’t felt inspired to share on recent cups here since they’ve been pretty mediocre, but this was worthy of a note.

Profile

Bio

Lifetime student. Lover of books and paper and ink. Kitchen dweller. Aspiring herbalist, excessively proud cat lady, and tea fanatic. Thirty-something elder millennial. She/her.

I love flavored black teas most of all, always with cream and honey. I enjoy floral and fruity teas, as well as flavored or scented ones. I’m not overly fond of green or white teas, but I’ve found a few that I enjoy.

I’m open to tea swaps and/or just sharing what’s in my tea cabinet! Please reach out if you see something I have that you’d like to try. I do my best to update my cupboard regularly.

Favorites
Any and all black teas, smoky teas, raspberry, strawberry, red fruits, bergamot, chai spices, floral teas, caramel/toffee, jasmine, rose, vanilla, peaches, plums, valerian root, cinnamon, cardamom

Not a huge fan
White teas, green teas, artificial sweeteners, sarsaparilla, licorice, lemongrass, lavender, hot hibiscus, hibiscus in black tea blends

Rating Scale

1-20: By far, one of the worst teas I’ve tasted. I most certainly will not finish my cup and will likely “gift” the rest to my sweet husband, James, who almost always enjoys the teas I dislike (and vice versa).

21-49: This tea is not good, but if I mix it with another tea or find another steeping method I might be able to finish it.

50-69: This one is just okay. I might drink it again if someone were to give it to me, but I probably won’t be buying more for myself.

70-79: This is a consistently good tea. It’s reliable but not necessarily special.

80-90: This one is a notch above the rest and I would gladly enjoy a cup of it any day of the week. I’ll likely be keeping this in my cupboard, but it isn’t one of my all-time favorites.

91-95: One small change and this tea would be perfect. I’ll definitely have a stash of this in my kitchen if you come over for tea.

96-100: No words can describe this tea. It’s an experience, an aha moment. Closed eyes, wide smile, encompassing warmth. Absolutely incredible. Perfect.
