Gingernut Matcha | Bird & Blend Tea Co.

I posted about the broken link for this matcha about a year ago, but all has been quiet. The link still isn’t working as of this morning and Steepster won’t let me create a new listing, so I’m posting here instead. Have we been forgotten?

This is really, really delicious. Gingery, just a touch of spice. Not sure if the spicy bite is from the ginger or the chili, but it’s just a perfect amount. It may just be the mood I’m in with fall well on its way, but this is really everything I wanted this morning. Granted, I did add some honey and milk so it’s made it somewhat of a golden milk (minus the turmeric). Really lovely.

Flavors: Ginger, Spicy

Adagio has proven as hands-off with this site as the previous admin was. It is impossible to try to contact them about anything, and other than “keeping the lights on” they haven’t done anything for the site. Not too long ago we had a lot of new people complaining that they were unable to modify their profile to put info on it that would help with tea exchanges and such, and I’m sure that must be an “anti-spam” measure Adagio created, but with no way to contact them, those users were just left high and dry… and I don’t think I’ve seen any of them post anymore as a result. Very frustrating.

@mastress Alita, I am still here, even though I am unable to edit my account at all. It does make me feel like i’m a ghost in the system, somehow, faceless. It is really frustrating indeed

Not at all bitter as it was the last time I had it. Did a 10 second rinse followed by a 30 second steep with 175° water. Strong mineral flavor.

drank Double Bergamot Earl Grey by Stash Tea

I’ve always heard good things about this one. I thought it might be overpowering since it’s double, but everyone speaks so highly of it that I still had high hopes. Turns out the hype is real! It’s not overdone at all, just a nice bergamot flavor. I’ll have to try this up against Stash’s regular Earl Grey to see how they compare.

Flavors: Bergamot

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

No chocolate this time around. It actually tastes and smells just like the candy part of a candied apple, like burnt sugar. I think I might prefer this to chocolate, even though that’s not what the tea is supposed to taste like. I’ve never had a chocolate digestive biscuit though, so I guess I can’t say for sure what it’s supposed to taste like (aside from the chocolate).

This is a much better cup than the last, so I think I’ll raise my rating a bit. It’s still not a favorite, but it’s not bad for a sturdy breakfast tea.

October 2022 → A de-caf/caffeine free tea

I had hoped this would be a nice option for a caffeine-free chai, but it’s not great. It has a strange taste that I can’t quite place. I can taste the rooibos and the cinnamon. Tried to finish this one but it’s just not good enough to push through. Dumping.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Rooibos

drank Chocolate Mint Oolong by Stash Tea

One of the better Stash teas I’ve had. It reminds me of a black tea and holds up really well to milk/cream. I can’t say I’d buy a full box of it, but I’ll happily drink it if it’s around.

Flavors: Chocolate, Mint

Agreed this is one of my favorites from Stash!

Profile

Bio

Lifetime student. Lover of books and paper and ink. Kitchen dweller. Aspiring herbalist, excessively proud cat lady, and tea fanatic. Thirty-something elder millennial. She/her.

I love flavored black teas most of all, always with cream and honey. I enjoy floral and fruity teas, as well as flavored or scented ones. I’m not overly fond of green or white teas, but I’ve found a few that I enjoy.

I’m open to tea swaps and/or just sharing what’s in my tea cabinet! Please reach out if you see something I have that you’d like to try. I do my best to update my cupboard regularly.

Favorites
Any and all black teas, smoky teas, raspberry, strawberry, red fruits, bergamot, chai spices, floral teas, caramel/toffee, jasmine, rose, vanilla, peaches, plums, valerian root, cinnamon, cardamom

Not a huge fan
White teas, green teas, artificial sweeteners, sarsaparilla, licorice, lemongrass, lavender, hot hibiscus, hibiscus in black tea blends

Rating Scale

1-20: By far, one of the worst teas I’ve tasted. I most certainly will not finish my cup and will likely “gift” the rest to my sweet husband, James, who almost always enjoys the teas I dislike (and vice versa).

21-49: This tea is not good, but if I mix it with another tea or find another steeping method I might be able to finish it.

50-69: This one is just okay. I might drink it again if someone were to give it to me, but I probably won’t be buying more for myself.

70-79: This is a consistently good tea. It’s reliable but not necessarily special.

80-90: This one is a notch above the rest and I would gladly enjoy a cup of it any day of the week. I’ll likely be keeping this in my cupboard, but it isn’t one of my all-time favorites.

91-95: One small change and this tea would be perfect. I’ll definitely have a stash of this in my kitchen if you come over for tea.

96-100: No words can describe this tea. It’s an experience, an aha moment. Closed eyes, wide smile, encompassing warmth. Absolutely incredible. Perfect.
