Made a mug of this one for myself a few nights ago at work.

I still really, really enjoy this one. The cranberry notes are incredibly robust and aromatic with a good mix of sweetness, like cranberry jelly, and a softer tart edge. I’d say that they make up like 80% of the overall flavour of this tea – which is a lot, but if you’re a cranberry fan then you really don’t mind. The rest is the herbaceous basil, which is also really well done. It’s an interesting contrast against the bright, fruity tone of the cranberry and seems to make the fruit notes seem juicier overall.

Cold Brew Sipdown (383)!

So, gotta admit that I’m a little choked about this sipdown. I really, really enjoyed this blend and how unique and distinct the flavours in it are. It’s something I’d be open to ordering again in the future though probably far off in the future. Sadly, there’s actually very little tea from Bluebird Tea Co. that interests me, so I don’t really know what that order would look like…

This brew is heavier on the rhubarb, which means it has a hint of tartness to it. There’s still some creaminess/custard too but more in the undertones, sweeping in as the tartness of the rhubarb wains. It’s so good! Fruity and dessert flavours!

I would totally go in on an order with you. I’ve been wanting to try this one.

Cold Brew.

Very robustly fruity, but not over the top in sweetness. Of course this was largely passion fruit notes; the very trademark ‘DAVIDsTEA’ kind that are in all of DT’s passion fruit blends. Other than that, there was a hint of tartness from the hibiscus and some familiar, sweet apple undertones. Something also stood out as floral in a more delicate way, especially in the finish of the brew – possibly the white tea base, although it’s usually quite masked/hidden.

I’m glad I’m still loving this – it validates my decision to stock up on as much of it as I did.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Currently sipping on the last bit of a mug of this…

This is equally roasty and vegetal; notes of grilled nuts, asparagus, and charred green bell pepper. It’s just a little bit smokey with hints of crisp, crunchy autumn leaves. Definitely better when it was hot; it was smoother and more comforting. Now that it’s cooled down to around room temperature I’m finding the vegetal elements more jarring and pronounced, which really isn’t my thing.

Gotta side with my first impression; just don’t love this one.

I’ve been craving apples all day. I’m not oblivious to the fact there’s probably a tie in to the ex boyfriend. He was really, really allergic to apples so I often chose not to have them. Now, there’s no reason not to enjoy them – and so I am. Also, maybe there’s a bit of underlying anger/pettyness to it…

This was delicious though, regardless of intention I had when I picked it out. Lots of apple, sure, but perhaps more importantly even more cinnamon and clove. Delicious, delicious clove. Undertones of fig as well. I do genuinely just enjoy this tea; but sometimes it feels good to be a little bit petty.

Happily sipped on this one on the bus ride in to work today. At least, as happily as I can manage right now…

I think I over steeped it a little bit because it had a bitter edge to it that I haven’t experienced from this tea before, but aside from that it was pretty delicious. Lots of creamy white chocolate notes, and floral/rose undertones. Very heady, strong florals too. Really rich, and in your face. I think I need a little intensity in my tea right now, so it’s actually deeply appreciated at the moment.

This tea has an aroma and taste profile that distracts from a lot of things. When I bought my first full tin, I told the person ringing me up that it was my therapeutic reward for a crappy week. Hope it helps you a little too, Roswell! Thinking of you.

Taking some friends advice, and distracting myself with other things until I reach a point where they’re no longer distractions – just me doing things…

Made this one with some milk. I haven’t had it in a very long time; I’m not really a fan of this one, though it’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly why that is. When I go on vacation very shortly I’ll be bringing a lot of bagged teas with me though, and I wanted to decide if this was worth taking with me. I’m thinking not.

It’s just all over the place. Very roasty and bitter with char/coffee notes. Gross, artificial chemical tasting caramel…

Nope.

We started our seasonal interviews at work today; it was my day off but I came in for an hour anyway to help out with conducting interviews. I stopped at Freshi afterwards and grabbed an Oaxaca bowl to take home with my for supper, and then at 7-11 on the bus ride home, where I just grabbed a can of this.

I can’t remember if this is one of the flavours I’ve tried or not – I swear I’ve had something from this company that was raspberry flavoured but I don’t think it was a lemonade. Who can say, though…

I’m just still feeling really tired/out of it and I don’t know that I have the energy/will power to actually brew tea tonight. I’m definitely still in ‘curled up on the couch/eating pints of icecream mode’ post break up. It’ll take a little while the bounce back completely. I still want tea though; so canned/ready to drink stuff will have to do.

It’s good enough – I can totally taste the actual tea in here which is important to me, even in a canned/ready to drink sort of tea. Unfortunately, it’s giving me some major Lipton/Tetley vibes in terms of quality. The raspberry is also strong, but very, very sweet which is kind of gross. I mean, one of the top ingredients in here is cane sugar though, so I probably shouldn’t be that surprised. There’s also stevia as well, so that’s a whole lot of sweetener in one little can.

Totally not something I’d normally gravitate towards – but like I said, I’m unwilling to actually brew up tea right now so I can’t really afford to be all that picky.

Sipdown (378)!

Finished off as a hot tea; very smooth, calm profile overall. I’ve had this one before, and I was pretty sure I enjoyed it but wasn’t 100% sure just how much which is why I went for a sample amount in my most recent order and not a 50g amount. Now I’m kind of regretting not going for the 50g…

I find I tend to crave cranberry a lot in the winter months; it’s kind of perfectly appropriate in terms of fruit flavours. The cranberry in this is quite lovely; very clear with sweeter top notes and a very soft, delicate tartness following the fall of the top sweetness. It feels plump, and ripe. In addition, there are hints of fresh apple and floral/grassy elements from the green tea base. Nothing is too strong in terms of flavour, even the green tea, and nothing is too light.

I definitely appreciate this one.

This is definitely one of the better TeaTaxi offerings I have tasted.

Hot cuppa.

Had this one a few nights ago at the end of a shift; I really wanted something fruity but it was so late at night so I knew that caffeine was going to be a bad choice. I’d forgotten how sweet this one is, though! All I could taste was the super strong, candied flavour of mango, pineapple, and passionfruit. It was mostly good, but actually just a little bit cloying.

Profile

Bio

Hello! My name is Kelly, though many people in the tea community call me Ros or Roswell.

I am a mid-twenties tea addict, blogger, and all around nerd. I grew up in the Prairies, but a few years ago I relocated to Quebec to pursue a career with DAVIDsTEA in the tea industry! I’m still working on getting my French language skills down…

My first introduction to tea, in any form outside of instant and bottled iced tea, was about seven years ago when I happened to stumble upon DAVIDsTEA while looking for a birthday present for a friend! I tried their Birthday Cake rooibos blend, and I’ve been hooked on tea ever since! In those seven years; I was introduced to the online tea community, expanded my interest in flavoured teas to include a deep love and appreciation for straight teas and traditional brewing methods, got a tea themed tattoo, started reviewing teas, amassed a sizable tea and teaware collection, became a TAC certified Tea Sommelier, & even came full circle by beginning a career in the tea industry with DAVIDsTEA!

I consider myself a Jack of all Teas, and strive to have a knowledge and appreciation of all tea types, formats, and styles of drinking. I don’t like to feel boxed in to just being a “flavoured tea” or “straight tea” drinker – my expectations may vary depending on the type of tea or how it’s been processed/prepared but if it’s good tea, it’s good tea no matter how it’s been made!

You name it, I probably drink it- and I’ll absolutely try anything at least once.

My default method of preparation is hot, Western style, and straight – but I’m not opposed to additions if I’m in the right mood. If I ever add something to a tea or use a different method of preparation I will ALWAYS call it out in the tasting note though.

I like to listen to music when drinking tea, especially when I’m brewing a large pot at a time or steeping Gongfu. Often I curate very intentional tea and music pairings, and sometimes I share them here in my tasting reviews. Music is something that I find can deeply affect the experience of having tea.

I’m also one half of the “tea and fandom” podcast GeekSteep where, weekly, we discuss newly explored fandoms over tea as well as try to figure out the perfect tea to pair with each fandom. You can find us on Spotify and Apple & Google podcasts.

Favourite flavour notes/ingredients: Pear, lychee, cranberry, cream, melon, pineapple, malt, roasty, petrichor, sweet potato, heady florals like rose, hazelnut or walnut, sesame, honey (in moderation), and very woody shou.

Least favourite flavour notes/ingredients:
Lemongrass, ginger, strongly spiced profiles (and most Chai in general), mushrooms, seaweed, chamomile, stevia, saltiness or anything that reminds me too much of meat that isn’t supposed to taste like meat…

Currently exploring/obsessed with: Sheng from Yiwu, Yancha (Qilan in particular), anything with a strong sweet potato note. Also, I need to try ALL the root beer teas! Searching for a really good caramel flavoured blend, ideally with a black tea base.

Please contact me at the instagram account listed below if you would like me to review your teas.

Currently I’m employed in the tea department of the DAVIDsTEA head office. While I’m still sharing my own personal thoughts on new & existing DAVIDsTEA blends, I am no longer numerically rating them due to the obvious conflict of interest. Any comments expressed are a reflection of my own thoughts and opinions, and do not reflect the thoughts and opinions of the company. Any DAVIDsTEA blends you currently see with a numeric score were reviewed prior to my being hired there and have not been adjusted since becoming a DAVIDsTEA employee.
