16396 Tasting Notes
Last cup of the day!
So, unlike DT’s S’mores tea that they launched this year – this one is a herbal tea and the marshmallows in it are GIANT! I mean, totally NOT full sized marshmallows but the ones in DT’s blend look like a joke next to these guys. Plus, because marshmallows are so light there’s a ton of them in 50g. Technically speaking that means that this tisane probably isn’t actually vegetarian friendly. I’ve been a pretty damn strict vegetarian for around thirteen years now, but admittedly marshmallows are the only thing that I don’t withhold from my diet. I mean, I don’t go out of my way to eat them but they aren’t a deal breaker for me personally.
Steeped up this smells pretty heavenly; it’s mostly a mix of milk chocolate and apple aromas but there’s a marshmallow creaminess to it too! Very sweet overall, but with a softness. I imagine this will be a comforting/relaxing flavour. It’s weird ‘cause to me personally there’s definitely a summer/autumn association that comes along with S’mores ’cause of camping but yet the flavour profile works so well year round/as a wintery thing.
First few sips now and… Ahhh!
I was right; this is a really relaxing/comforting blend! It’s got three main flavours; two of which are ones you’d generally heavily associate with S’mores and that’s the marshmallow and chocolate. The last one is apple; but it’s just as much of a buttery apple as it is a sweet and very lightly tart one. It’s a touch weird, but not unwelcome. I don’t get the graham cracker, which is the other flavour note I would say is pretty linked with S’mores and without it being part of the profile this is almost more of a mashmallow topped hot chocolate kind of taste. I say almost, because it’s just a bit too much marshmallow to really drive home that hot cocoa association. So, I guess it sort of falls in this weird purgatory between the two associations?
I mean overall, this is damn smooth though and not overly sweet or lacking in flavour. I’m greatly enjoying it both as a dessert tea sort of profile and as a calming/relaxing night time option. It’s a very, very solid cup!

Sipdown (408)!
I’d almost forgotten that I still had this tea! It was a pleasant surprise going through samples and finding it right at the top, like it was there waiting for me! So I brewed it up, and I’ve been enjoying sipping on it while watching Brooklyn 99 ever since!
Very smooth floral notes of lily and orchid with a soft gingery spice finish. So pleasant, and a really nice evening cup of tea! Maybe I’ll order this one again in the future – but for the time being I think this is a really nice way to finish it off.
Tea Press.
Ok, so even though I’m still super happy with the name I gave this tea/the logic behind it I have to admit that literally every time I think of this tea the name that I use in my head for it is “Pineapple Creme Brulee”, quickly followed by “No, wait – Pele’s Kitchen!”. The reason I keep going there, though, is because it does taste like a Pineapple Creme Brulee! So sweet, and dessert-like and just pleasant all around. I really, really love that it’s such a creamy flavour too despite being a blend with fruit in it.
Creamy pineapple. Creamy brown sugar. Creamy vanilla.
And warming cinnamon with hints of lemon.
Tea Press.
The other cheesecake tea that I had earlier in the week. I like this one better than the Wildside Cheesecake from Steep Me A Cup Of Tea; it just captures the creamy/buttery and tangy cheesecake flavour significantly better. Plus, it’s really smooth and the cinnamon and honey undertones are a beautiful compliment that really give you a “crust to toppings” picture of the slice of cheesecake goodness.
No milk necessary for this one; it’s perfect all on its own.
Haven’t drank much iced tea as of late but this is a good one.
I was feeling really overheated at work the other day though, so I figured iced tea was a good thing to have in the moment. Plus, I also wanted a bit of caffeine so this was the winner for a fruity, caffeinated refreshing tea. So much passionfruit, and just enough hints of apple/apricot to not feel too one dimension. Yes!
Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
Cold Brew.
A little too heavy of the kiwi and candy-like in taste to really be enjoyable this time around though. I don’t know; I’ve not had massive success with this herbal as of late; I want to just finish it off and be over with it, but at the same time I don’t want to force myself into a lot of “bleh” tasting brews in close succession…
Unrelated; but about two hours after my really weird experience this afternoon with Dan and his generous gift of ‘gently used’ grocery items I had another strange experience with someone coming to my door. If you’re confused about who Dan is, then you need to go read my review of Adagio’s Jasmine Silver Needle ‘cause you’re missing out on a pretty weird story.
But anyway; I was downstairs putting some stuff away when I hear the doorbell go off like six times right after one another – so I shouted back very loudly “Just hold on, I’m coming!” and ran upstairs to go see what was going on. Apparently, when I answered the door for Dan I must have forgot to lock it ‘cause I came upstairs, and turned out of the kitchen to see this GIANT FUCKING MAN standing in the middle of my living room. Like, this dude that I’ve definitely never met. I was actually kind of fucking terrified.
He just kind of gruffly went “Phone?” to which I responded “What?”
“Do you have a phone I can use? I need to call a taxi!”
“Uh, yeah… sure man?” and handed over my phone. I wasn’t gonna argue with the complete stranger who was easily a foot and a half taller than me and who looked like he could pick me up without even breaking a sweat (and I am not a tiny person). He called his taxi, and then just left. And I promptly locked the door. But holy shit who fucking does that!? I can’t even imagine having the nerve to just walk into a total strangers house like that! Jesus!!!

This one probably shouldn’t be made hot; it’s just a bit of a mess, and the flavours don’t provide their best flavours when made that way. It’s just too much tart hibiscus and an unrelenting taste of elderberries, and not nearly enough grape to be worthy of the “Icewine” in the name, or to be satisfying.
It does steep up to be a truly beautiful maroon looking liquor, though.

Ok, so I don’t necessarily think the flavours in the tea and the style/lyrics/tone of the song go together – but when I drink this and look at the beautiful aesthetic of the tea, I can’t help but associate that purple-y maroon shade with this song. It’s almost like i’m more matching an aura that the song is giving off? For lack of a better term.
I still think this is a really weird combination of ingredients, and that there’s a lot going on in general with this tea – but that said, when I picked it out to sip on while I had a nice soak in the tub I actually found the strong combination of tulsi and lavender to be really peaceful and relaxing. I also greatly enjoyed the earthy undertones from the mix of different tea types in this one – particularly the Pu’erh and the rooibos.
This may just be my go to latte on shift for the next little while…
In the past three days, I’ve had this guy as a latte every single day during my shifts. It’s been absolutely delicious, and all kinds of comforting and wintery. I mean, it’s just like twice as creamy and custardy, with the same soft cinnamon/clove undertones. It really does channel “Eggnog” very well in my opinion!
One of the three times, I also did a bit of a vanilla agave drizzle on the top of the mug with all the frothed up milk. I’m a big fan of frothed milk so I usually over steam/froth the milk when I make lattes for myself so that I get extra of that foamy goodness. The vanilla agave adds a nice, sweet creamy flavour to the milk froth since I generally end up polishing off the layer of it before I even hit the tea. Sometimes some of the flavoured agave makes it into the tea, but usually it’s just a special treat just for me while I enjoy the foam.

Ok – so first things first: this tea was delicious! Very fresh, and a strong but natural jasmine flavour that coated the mouth during the sip though finished very cleanly without a lingering presence. The white tea itself was nice too; a mix of soft malt, cream and hay notes. Also really fresh tasting.
The flavour profile of the tea is not the most interesting thing that happened while I was drinking it though. Not at all. So, the following is an account of a very weird experience I just had whilst drinking this tea…
So, here I was sipping tea and watching Baby Driver when my doorbell rang. “Oh, probably tea mail!” I thought to myself – and I rushed to the door. I opened it and there, standing in front of me, was a guy holding a giant Ikea bag with a roll of aluminum foil sticking out of it. Which in itself was weird. In his other hand, he was holding a LUSH box, though…
So I very slowly asked “Uh, can I help you?”
“Hey, my names Dan. I live on your block, or lived I guess? I’m moving today, and I have all this food that we’re not taking with us. You’re the first person to answer the door? Do you want it?”
I must have looked even more confused than I thought I did ‘cause then he sort of wiggled the LUSH box in his other hand and went: “Oh, and this was in your yard?” and handed it to me. Sure enough, it was a LUSH order I placed a few weeks ago that has some Christmas gifts in it. Why was it in my front yard? Hell if I know – I’d say that’s a pretty shitty job done on the postman’s end though.
“Thanks? And… I guess? Thank you?”
To which he handed over the big Ikea bag and just walked away. It was all very weird…
So, now I’m rummaging through my mystery bag of stuff. In addition to my roll of aluminum foil, I also received the following note worthy items:
- One can of corned beef hash
- One Lunchables “build your own pizza” kit
- A large bag of organic, prewashed packaged spinach
- Two pickled pork sausages
- A box of Corn Pops cereal
- A bag of “Tex Mex” shredded cheese
- A single Twinkie
- A single bag of Gatorade brand gummy candies
- One bottle of Sriracha, half finished
- One box of instant mashed potatos
- Approx. a third of a tub of margarine
I’m definitely going to toss all of the stuff that’s open, but the majority of everything was brand new. So, thank you Dan? You seemed like a nice guy; I suppose it’s a shame you’re moving? Yeah…
Have you ever tried Dandy’s brand marshmallows? I use them in hot chocolate and roasting over the fire/s’mores. http://dandiesmarshmallows.com/
They have a great flavour and texture. Pretty much exactly like regular marshmallows but without the gelatin.
I also am a vegetarian and can vouch for Dandy’s Marshmallows although they are a bit spendy compared to gelatin ones.
I’ve heard of them – but haven’t tried them. Definitely something I’ll keep in mind, though! :)
