53 Tasting Notes
First time trying a honeybush. The aroma is almost nauseating. Smells… mulchy? Not sure what that is, but it’s unpleasant. The taste, however, is sweet, woody, and has a slight hint of… banana peel? This is a very unusual experience. There’s a bit of a cooling effect shortly after swallowing. This might make a good base for a fruity blend, but that’s not really my thing. I’ve got some more left in the sample, I’ll have another go. The aftertaste almost makes the smell worth bearing.
Subsequent infusions did fade a bit, but still have the creamy flavor profile of the earlier infusions really holding on. Reeeally wish I had more of this. I feel like there’s more to explore with this tea. I think I’ll buy some.
Preparation
I wish my sample contained enough more than one session. Only two steeps in, but so far a very warm flavor, very smooth taste, definitely savory and buttery. Definitely needs a pause after each sip to truly appreciate it. The second steep is far superior to the first, once you learn how to drink it. I think this tea would benefit from gaiwan brewing, I feel like I’m cheating it brewing western style. I wasn’t initially impressed, but the more time I spend with this tea, the more I find myself enjoying it. I feel like these leaves have a lot left to offer, so I’ll update again with a rating once they’re spent.
Preparation
This tea just lasts forever! And while the taste isn’t mindblowing, the value is. I think I’ll stock up on this; it will make a fine fallback tea if I can’t decide what to drink. And the aftertaste really is very pleasant. A great tea to drink slowly… I could easily make 2tbsp of leaf last all day. But I worry if buying this means I’ll neglect my other teas. :)
Never really took green tea seriously or cared much for it. I figure young, unopened buds would give a gentle flavor I would hope would open my eyes to the world of green teas. Resteeped well, and despite bitterness in the first brew, I find myself enjoying it. The flavor is a bit lackluster but the aftertaste is spot on.
Preparation
Fragrance is spot on, but wasn’t a particularly wowing tea. Will try again, maybe with some more leaves. The buds barely opened, so I imagine there was a lot of flavor left, though I left the leaves sitting too long, and discarded them. The fragrance had mostly washed away anyway.
