127 Tasting Notes

I am trying to sipdown these Harry Potter fandom teas. I really wish they weren’t all black teas, as I’m not terribly fond of flavored black teas.

This one smells just like the top of a nice creme brule. All burn sugar and subtle cream. I wish it tasted as good as it smells, but to me it was lacking the roundness that I was hoping for.

I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt that maybe my allergy ridden self isn’t experiencing the full flavor since I can only really breathe/smell out of one side of my nose. I’ll reserve rating this one until I’ve given it a few more tries.

My first time tasting this one and I pick up the floral and hay notes of this more than anything. It’s soft and pleasant, slightly nutty. I’m kind of amazed at all the different things that people seem to taste in this tea, but then again that’s what’s so interesting about tea to me in a way… that it almost never tastes the same to any two people.

I’m going to reserve rating this one until I’ve had time to taste it a few more times.

I asked Stacy for this tea as one of my samples, after seeing all the rave reviews it got. I was a little wary of it because I’m not a huge fan of melon, but I thought I’d give it a go and be open minded. Verdict: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

As everyone else has pointed out, this tastes like a big cup of fresh cantaloupe. It’s not overly cantaloupey and all the sweetness is implied rather than outright. It smells absolutely heavenly once it is steeped. I went around my office making my co-workers smell it… yeah I’m that girl.

It’s light and creamy and fresh. I bet this would be amazing iced too. Has anyone tried it iced?

I ate a sad honeydew melon yesterday (I knew it would be sad, since it’s not honeydew season, so I was already braced for disappointment), and it made me think of this tea and how I need to order it soon….. This tea is everything my melon wasn’t. lol

haha, that is hilarious. Melon tea… better than actual melon!

Oh man… this tea. I placed an order with Butiki after seeing this tea and its reviews on Steepster. I have been dying to try a pistachio tea ever since I missed out on the Pistachio Cream tea on DavidsTea. So I was eagerly awaiting my order’s arrival so I could try this one right away.

I made my first cup this morning and headed to work with it. Halfway to work I was seriously regretting not bringing the whole package with me… you mean I have to wait until I get home in 9 hours to have another cup?!?!

This tastes EXACTLY like my favorite Pistachio Macaron from the local bakery. It’s absolutely heavenly. I practically licked the cup when I finished it…

It smelled very much like that favorite pistachio macaron that I love so much… sweet and creamy like I walked into a bakery.

The first couple of sips I tasted mostly the base green tea, a little seaweedy, then the creaminess kicked in followed by the subtle warm nutty flavor. There is no innate sweetness in this tea, but it definitely gave me the bakery vibe. All of the flavors just meld together perfectly and none overpowers the others.

This is a tea I will go back to again and again! I know I’ll be putting in another order as soon as my current bag runs out!

Oh! Sounds lovely! I’ll add it to my wishlist. Do you sweeten your tea, or does it depend on the tea? I have been trying most of my tea both ways, sweetened and unsweetened, but I am finding I prefer most of them sweetened and I feel like maybe I am letting the gods of tea down with my need for rock sugar…haha.

lolainred

haha, the way I look at it, the gods of tea probably approve of however you take your tea as long as you’re enjoying it!

I do not sweeten my tea as a general rule. I just have always liked unsweetened tea (being from the south, that makes most people gasp), but that’s just my personal preference. I definitely sweeten teas occasionally, and this is one I think I might try that way.

I keep meaning to try rock sugar in the teas I do like to sweeten, which one do you use?

I have tried rock sugar from a few different vendors, and I like Teavana’s the best. It sweetens but doesn’t overtake the flavor of the tea. Just gives it a boost in the right direction. Adagio’s was too weak and I ended up using double to get the same effect. And I have tried a few samples from local places with no luck. So as much as it pains me to recommend Teavana…there you go. Haha. I can send you a sample if you would like? The smallest size they sell is rather large if you end up not liking it.

I might have to take you up on that at some point. =)

I’ve had two cups of this in as many days. The pollen is wreaking havoc on my throat/sinuses this year. The fiance brought this over with five other teas from this company and recommended it for a sore throat, so I gave it a shot.

I definitely wasn’t crazy about the smell of the sachets dry… very licorice smelling to me, but they smell mostly like spearmint once they start to steep.

I added a heaping teaspoon of local honey to both cups, which is recommends, and found the taste to be mostly mint, a bit licoricey and of course I could taste the honey too. The taste was pleasant, though not my favorite, but again I don’t like mint teas very much.

I did find this very soothing on my sore throat though. Both times it seemed to sooth the pain in my throat pretty well, though not entirely. I would definitely buy this again to have on hand for future whiny sick times like yesterday and today.

We brought two teas to Easter brunch this morning, both iced: This one and Apricot from Harney & Sons. We sweetened the Apricot one and did not sweeten this one.

When I originally bought this tea blend it was be drink it iced. I’ve had it a few times hot since then and I definitely think it shines best as an unsweetened iced tea. It was popular at the brunch, though not as popular are the Apricot.

The flavor is a great blend of sweet and tart flavors that blend nicely and don’t feel sour or overwhelming. This remains a favorite in the iced tea category.

Ok ok… I have to do a little back tracking from my last log. Once we iced this and sweetened it… it tasted like an entirely different tea. What tasted chemically to me isn’t there anymore, I think the sweetener fixed that.

Definitely will NEVER drink this hot again… even the fiance agreed it was “gross” hot, but both of us (and the entire party of people we brought this to on Easter) agree it was a keeper once it was iced and sweetened.

I’m still disappointed in myself for not actually drinking this on April 15th. I had it with me at work and everything.

Anyways, that disappointment aside, this is one of my favorite black teas. I don’t add sweetener or milk to my teas at all, and this one really doesn’t need anything anyways. It’s full bodied and malty with a great warm scent. The blended black teas play off each other well and the result is something very smooth. I can definitely see fancily dressed millionaires sipping this in the breakfast room, haha.

I think this would make a great iced tea latte… a little milk or almond milk, a bit of sweetener. I’ll have to give it a try.

I had this from a box of tea sachets that I got at Home Goods awhile back when I was in a pinch for new tea…. (definitely don’t have that problem now!)

I didn’t get any of the cinnamon or clove spiciness at all from this tea. It was just fruity to me. Definitely on the more tart end of the fruity spectrum too, which I think is due to the hibiscus. It reminded me a bit of the Adagio Blood Orange tea that I have in my cupboard.

It was alright, but I’m not sorry it was the last sachet of it.

I couldn’t resist, I picked this up with my Starbucks reward again. I feel like after a week of black teas, this was a welcome reminder of the fact that I do really prefer lighter softer teas.

The first time I tried loose leaf tea at home, I was hooked. I’ve been drinking tea for years now, though I still feel like such a newbie in the world of teas. There are so many things I’ve never tried from so many new to me companies!

I used to be very much a black tea drinker, but have started, in the last year, to realize that I prefer the lightness of greens and whites much more.

That said, I will basically try any tea once (probably twice, just in case)!

My review categories:
100-94: I never want to run out of these!
93-80: Restock please!
79-60: Definitely like, but not a must have
59-50: Not lovin’ it, but I’d drink it again
49 & below: nope, Nope, NOPE.
