What is the best source for Matcha nowadays?

I used to use Red Leaf Matcha but they are essentially gone now. Where is the best place to get quality matcha now, or what are some of your favorites?

Hi Zack.

I’ll preface by saying I drink very little matcha. Since this discussion board isn’t very active, I thought I’d mention some of the companies I’ve seen that other Japanese tea and matcha drinkers enjoy. All of the following ship from Japan.

Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms. A company well regarded here and has a friendly website. Very active presence. I’ve enjoyed the few teas I’ve tried from them.

Yuuki-cha. An all-organic outfit. Their non-matcha teas have been well reviewed here.

O-Cha. I’ve seen mentioned as having good matcha though there are only a few reviews here from the past few years.

Yunomi. The Yunnan Sourcing of Japanese tea. While they have nowhere near the amount of product as Yunnan Sourcing, I find their website similarly burdensome. I have had some very good teas from them.

Thés du Japon. I found their blog/newletter to be very involved which spurred me to make a small order this past week. I cannot yet vouch for the quality of their teas.

Material Matcha Uji. The reviews I’ve seen here are very favorable. Modern marketing and image-focused.

I hope some matcha drinkers will eventually chime in!

I also love Kyoto Obubu and Yunomi, as mentioned above, but adding a couple more:

Naoki Matcha (https://naokimatcha.com/shop/)
They have several types of high-quality matcha from different regions of Japan at reasonable prices. Also comes in cute tins, which I’m always a sucker for… XD They also have a strong social media presence and do giveaways often.

Ippodo Tea (https://ippodotea.com/collections/matcha)
Great historic Japanese tea seller that has a wide range of matcha as well. Their prices tend to be a bit higher, but they have a lot to choose from and have rotating seasonal matcha offerings as well.

3 Leaf Tea (https://threeleaftea.com/collections/matcha)
My favorite source for flavored matcha, and one of the very few that doesn’t add any sugar. They also offer flavored hojicha powder, which is extremely unusual. They do carry unflavored matcha as well, but I haven’t tried it personally.

I also love 3 Leaf for flavored matcha.

Breakaway Matcha (https://breakawaymatcha.com) is my favorite for straight matcha. I generally drink straight matcha iced and their cold brew original is absolutely incredible.

Really depends on how you like to drink your matcha.
I prefer to drink it plain.

I interviewed a bunch of companies here:
