149 Tasting Notes

Yup. I really, really love this one. Having drifted away from overly flavoured teas (although, there is a time and a place for them in my tea cravings….just much less than there used to be…), this tea is perfect.
I’m sipping while I play Shovel Knight, and it’s making it one fine Sunday. :)

Thanks so much, Dexter! (You really have introduced me to some of my favourite teas. :))) )

TeaLady441

Ha! I saw you on my friends list while I was playing Pokemon Shuffle. :P It just to me a second to match up 3DS name w/ Steepster friend. I’ll have to try Shovel Knight at some point. I keep hearing amazing things! But I want to ‘beat’ Fantasy Life first.

DeliriumsFrogs

LOL! That damn pokemon shuffle…. I got frustrated and never turned it on again. When I couldn’t catch Mew, I just like, ‘yah..I’m done!‘. lol
Oooh! I really liked Fantasy Life! I loved how you could basically just do whatever you wanted….and the characters were so cute. :)
I didn’t think I’d like Shovel Knight, being a terrible platforming player, but I really, really love it. It’s great! :D
(…tea friends and gaming friends are the best. :) )

TeaLady441

The price is a lot cheaper than I thought it would be too.
(totally! I love gamer friends who get tea too!)

Plunkybug

I remember really liking this. I may have to make some space in my cupboard for this.

This is really perfect for this morning…
malty and sweet with hints of raisins.
I’m getting a light, almost delicate mouthfeel (but I did just eat roasted carrots and fennel for breakfast, so my note here could be slightly off… lol).
As I’m sipping, I’m picking up a fruity note in the back… It’s really lovely!
Thank you so much for sending this to me, Dexter! And, you sent such a generous sample, so I can play around with this one. :)))

I’m drinking this while watching “Teen Titans Go!” with my daughter. :)
First off, I love how Stacy came up with all these interesting flavours using this amazing puerh as a base…
It’s smoky and complex without being off. I can sometimes not love smoky teas, but the smoky hint in these Butiki final blends has been really enjoyable to me.
The scent after steeping was blueberry sweetness…like blueberry pie filling.
What surprised me was the first sip! It has a tangy quality that’s really awesome… and my tongue is somehow tingly like I’m drinking champagne… and I have no idea how that’s happening, but it’s just fantastic.
Another “How’d she do that!?” Stacy blend. :))

Flavors: Blueberry, Champagne, Smoke, Tangy

OMGsrsly

How are you steeping this? I have a BUNCH of the base tea and will try gongfu, but western is just sometimes easier. :)

Dexter

I haven’t had any champagne tea, but I’ve had a few “soda pop” teas that felt like that on the tongue – you could feel the bubbles even though there weren’t any – I agree “how’d they do that?” :)

Sil

i brewed this one western according to stacy’s instructions

OMGsrsly

The instructions on my packet say gongfu. Haha. That’s why I was asking. I’ll try the 2:30 at 200F that’s recommended for this tea.

Sil

haha oopsy

DeliriumsFrogs

Yeah, I did what Sil said, as far as western brewing.
I do have one from Stacy that says gongfu recommended, but still has the steeping times like you would for Western style. I’m not quite sure what to do with that one….

Oh. My. Goodness.
This is amazing.
It’s everything I love about ripe puerh….
Mineral notes (which always come out as baked-good…almost baking powder/cream of tartar notes to me)…. raisin like, sweet and so deep…
Yes. This is a definite ‘add to cupboard when you can!’ type tea….
Thank you SO MUCH Dexter for sending this to me to try… It’s even better than I had hoped! :)

Sil

it’s relatively inexpensive too and streetshop ships SUPER quick!

DeliriumsFrogs

…..It’s only $10.98 for 100g!!?? eeeh…..
I know I shouldn’t, but it’s SOOO GOOD!!!

OMGsrsly

TREAT YO SELF! Why not get a cake? :D

Dexter

LOL that is a cake – it comes in 100g cakes for $10.98 USD… I really should be looking at getting another one, but need to try the one Sil sent me first…..

Sil

i thought i bought this one.. but i guess not? lol

Dexter

And the wrapper is pretty…. I thought you bought a cake of it?

Sil

oh i figured it out…. ebay streetshop versus streetshop listing.

OMGsrsly

Ohh! Even better. That’s a good size for a cake. :) I wonder if I’ve tried this one yet.

OMGsrsly

LOL. Thanks, Dex. I think I need to go get some hot chocolate or something, I’m all over the place today.

Dexter

I’m drinking another StreetShop88 pu’erh right now – it’s really good too…. sigh …. it’s not like I don’t have a mountain of pu’er in my house right now

DeliriumsFrogs

You are all the best. :) Just had to say that. lol

Sil

I’m trying to get my cupboard down enough to be able to possibly place a mandala order by the end of the month…but man another streetshop order would be great…

drank Cavalla by Crio Bru
149 tasting notes

It was my daughter’s birthday weekend (my youngest, turning 10!), so while I drank tea, I didn’t find the time to log what I drank.
I will log this, though, since I drank it last night.
Tea Friends have been talking about this, and I just kept on walking by it in the store…and I am so glad that the last time I was shopping, I threw this in my cart.
When I opened the bag, I couldn’t stop smelling… of course it smells good; it’s ground cacao! But, somehow I was surprised at HOW good it smelled. Like those chocolate covered almonds imported from Spain in the cheese shop…. That good. :)
My first cup I used 2tsp and steeped for 10 minutes. It was really good, but I wanted to up the chocolate flavour for my next cup.
3tsp/13 minutes was fantastic…. deep and chocolately. (I know. 3 tsp is a TBS, but I was holding a tsp, so that’s how I’m writing my measurements… haha)
I didn’t get a bitter note with either cup, which is something I was afraid of after reading the reviews, especially since I didn’t want to add anything to this (trying to avoid sugar and dairy right now…).
I’m really glad I have this available as a night time cup! :)

Flavors: Cocoa, Dark Chocolate

OMGsrsly

It is good steeped in milky stuff on the stove! So if you do almond or coconut milk or something, maybe try that too. :)

DeliriumsFrogs

I’m going to have to try that, because I imagine it’s really delicious. :D

Again, Dexter, if you get a chance, let me know if I’m logging this in the wrong spot….

Another sample from Dexter (She’s the BEST! :D ).
Oh, is this good… I mean, “I NEED TO ORDER THIS ASAP!”, good. If I had this in my cupboard at all times, I would be one happy human….
It’s like a mug of dark chocolate…. I don’t ever want this cup to be empty!!
Thanks so much for this, Dexter, because I’ve found a new favourite tea that I hadn’t been aware of. :))))

Dexter

Yep that it. and more importantly – this is it:
http://www.taotealeaf.com/zhenghe-gongfu-black-tea-jin-ping-village/
That’s my #1 favorite black tea. I keep trying others, and there are some amazing ones out there – but this is still my favorite… :)

OMGsrsly

Dexter IS the best! I’ve been enjoying my samples too, but my descriptions are terrible because I can’t really taste anything still. :D

masked185

Hmm I keep reading these comments and thinking to myself “Jeee I really need to get to know this Dexter person better” :D :P

Continuing on with my chocolate heavy black tea day…
This is another sample I received from Dexter ( Thank you!).
Deep chocolate and so smooth… oh, this is good.
I did this one western style just like the other black today, since I haven’t had the time to sit down with my gaiwan. It’s so weird to not be using it, but at the same time, it’s really nice to have a full mug of something.
Yeah, this tea is definitely something I love… and, I do get that graham note that’s mentioned… it’s delicious. :D

Not 100% sure that this is the one Dexter sent me, but since this is the one in her cupboard, I’m going to log it here. (Sorry if I’m incorrect!)
Anyway, I couldn’t look up the steeping parameters, since my kids were using the computer at the time, so I just winged it. 2tsp leaf/8oz water/boiling/5 min

This was chocolatey and comforting and just plain delicious. It was exactly what I was looking for at the moment… Really, really delicious. :D
I steeped for a second time (8min) and got the same chocolate notes with a little bit of a fruity quality going on… just lovely!

Ok… I guess I’ll go clean my kitchen now. blarg.

Dexter

I’m 100% sure that this is where I have it listed in my cupboard, but there are so many duplicates and different seasons etc – I’m never sure if I have them in the right place. Happy you liked it. :))

DeliriumsFrogs

Dexter, I am having SO much fun with the teas you sent me… I really can not ever thank you enough. :))))

Thanks so much for such a generous sample of this, Dexter! :D

This tea is earthy and malty, while being fruity and bright at the same time, which makes for a really fun sip. I’m really enjoying everything that is going on in this cup. I brewed this one up western style, but I’m thinking I’m going to use my gaiwan next time, thinking all these flavours would be really interesting that way.

What a lovely tea!
When I taste, the vegetal element is in the forefront, with the sweetness following. Hints of rock sugar and snap peas are present, along with a mineral quality I really enjoy. While waiting for my next infusion to finish steeping, the aftertaste is light and sweet.
This is a very interesting and quite delicious tea, smooth and perfect for a mid morning tea break. :D
The leaves unfurl further with each infusion, turning my gaiwan into an art piece for this tea session…. So pretty!

Oh, tea….
you’ve taken over my life, but I’m ok with that.

I’m pretty new to the tea scene, only drinking tea bags most of my life, but my friend ifjuly really got me into it (that sounds bad…). Butiki, Harney, and Verdant seem to be my ‘go to’ places to order from, but I LOVE trying new teas and companies. The variety is partly why I love tea so much…you can’t possibly get sick of it.
Well, that, and the transporting aroma of each cup…. I love that. It’s why I love wine, and tea does it just was well.

Really want to learn about different tea vendors out there, and about tea in general… it’s all so interesting to me.
I’m really excited to be part of this community and learn from all of you.

I don’t usually sweeten or add milk to my teas, so my notes are based on that….also, the rating system kind of throws me—I’ve always been horrible with giving number ratings to things, so don’t take those as set in stone (Honestly, I usually don’t even use the numbers…).

Everything in my cupboard has at least one serving left in it…I try to keep it updated. :) (I actually just added all my sample sizes to my cupboard, so MOST of the tea in my cupboard is of that ‘sample’ size…)

random info: music and art are pretty important in my life… i also thoroughly enjoy nerdy things like video games, anime, knitting, Doctor Who (the 10th is my favourite…), A Song of Ice and Fire, and random cartoons and such…. and i love, love, love to read. :)

I’m married to my best friend (I’ve known him since I was 15….we were totally going to be in a band together. It was going to be HUGE…), and we’ve got three kiddos. They’re pretty neat, too, even if they try to put sugar in my Verdant tea when they drink it….
