I was worried by being pretty underwhelmed by the scent of this tea, dry and steeped. But, it’s quite good! I steeped for 3 minutes at 205, and it came out robust but sweet and creamy. I don’t think I’d go any longer, and might try 2 minutes as per Bigelow. In any case, it helped me stay awake for a particularly ridiculous 12-hour work day. Let me outta here!
Coldbrew sipdown. (381/363 good lord who let me do math?)
This is…meh. It’s okay, but I certainly don’t get sangria. I get mostly white tea with an aftertaste of something that might be berry.
Oh well. I had been in love with this tea and hoarding this last little bit, so it’s good that I’ve had it and seen that it’s not as good as I remember.
Cold steeped a pot of this overnight and took some into work with me today. Nom nom nom. It was very nice! Cold, fruity, juicy, everything I want in a fruit blend and the ratio of white tea to fruit was perfect! The berries blended beautifully with the orange.
That said, I don’t think it’s one I’ll be stocking up on any time soon. I’ve become a bit stingier with what teas I buy and this one…well, it’s very good, but I’d prefer to find an herbal with the same flavors.
Whoah, orange! This was intense and really enjoyable. I made it last night as my post-workout, pre-bed tea and it filled both roles. It’s really refreshing but also relaxing. I found it really sweet ‘n’ juicy, like biting into a clementine. This is the strongest, most natural orange flavour I’ve had in a tea. I had just eaten an orange, too, so I believe I’m qualified to remark on this. I’m going to have to ice it soon!
Oh I’m so glad that you liked this one. I agree the orange taste is really natural. Did you notice the slight cream that I did too?
I did! I think straight-up orange can be a little too abrasive, so the sweet + creaminess smooths it out really nicely.
Despite having so many varieties and flavours of tea, sometimes a girl just craves a cup of orange pekoe. With this in mind, I got some of this one when we were at the Tea Haus on Friday and brewed it up for my morning cup today. Black, this is malty and hearty, and a great morning cup. I’m not the biggest malt fan so I added some sugar and mmmm this became a great one for me. I can see myself drinking this in the morning to wake up or the evening to unwind after a rough day. It would also be a great tea to blend with as well.
Preparation
I have become a firm believer in lapacho, between this tea and Davids’ Amaretto, I am in love. I need to try this via the stovetop method mentioned on the package, I’ve been steeping it in nearly boiling water for 3-4 minutes. But I love it, and I love the way it mixes with the orange. I need to stock up on this and get some straight lapacho to try! This kept me warm while we visited with the Gorillas and waited for the hail to stop.
This was wonderful. I made a cup (not bothering to time it since I was in the middle of a round of Mario Party and that shit is intense!) and didn’t add much sugar. At first sip, I was unimpressed, mostly because I hadn’t added as much sugar as I usually do. I was distracted! It was earthy, though, and tasted like a real orange, not that cloy fake orange flavoring. I set it to the side to add more sugar to when I got a chance, but I found myself reaching for it again and again until my cup came up empty! Booo.
We had our…well my first visit to the Tea Haus on Friday and it was lovely! I wasn’t feeling well and so I ending up sitting at a table most of the time so I wouldn’t pass out and take out a table of teaware, but the atmosphere was lovely and the people working there were wonderful. We ended up spending way more than we intended, but I now own the cutest elephant tea for two set in the world and I have tins that are perfect for 30g of matcha! So it was money well spent. We plan to return many, many times!
I am always down for an Earl, and like most of Tea Haus’s blends, this one did not disappoint. Smooth and mild black tea, with the smoky bergamot and creaminess in perfect proportion. If I were to brew it again, I would do it at less than boiling and avoid some of the bitterness that I experienced.
Preparation
Mmmmm just what I was after! For some reason, I’ve been all about the mint this week, and I am loving it!
Lately, because I’m trying to drink down my stash and I can’t waste too much time at work, I’ve been making two types of tea right when I get in. Sometimes even three, and then I ice one for the afternoon.
This one, I decided to ice… but when I tried the first steep, it was a little too much so I stuck the second one in the fridge instead and ohmygoodness was it ever perfect!!!
Something about the mint and green tea was so refreshing, and not bitter at all. I think that was partly because one serving is half the normal leaf used and the mint spruces it up so well.
For the iced version, I did add a tiny bit of agave. It really made a difference.
Then for the fourth and final steep I iced it again. That one was decent but nothing spectacular. It kept me going during my workout, and sane. There was a promo even at the gym, with a live lounge singer/“BB King” band and hired actors dressed up like famous celebrities. There was a puppet show (Bert n Ernie), Austin Powers, Cary Grant, Dr Evil/mini-me. Some free food.
Ugh, it was impossible concentrating! So yeah… I was counting on that tea to keep me focused! Concentrating on squats and dead-lifts with a live cover of the theme song from Titanic running in the background does not bode well for my poor overwhelmed brain.
Anyhow! I’m off to bed. Circuit training tomorrow, so the place had better be quiet…
BTW, my notices are MIA. It brings me to that error page. So my apologies for anything I miss!
LOL Any chance your gym is Goodlife? My gym totally had a party atmosphere today, and the pump class I went to (yes, with squats/dead-lifts, etc.) was a high-energy release class with three instructors…
YUP!!! It’s Goodlife allright! my instructor was so mad, it was entertaining watching him fume lol
Oh and they had girls in gala dresses at the door handing out free passes.
Did you go yesterday? I hear that all the locations were doing it. (not sure if that applies to just TO or not though)
Yes, I had gone to the gym on that same day. It was some sort of birthday party? I had some yummy free food on my way out, but didn’t participate in anything else. My gym’s pretty small, and women-only.
This was… ok. Not terrible. I must have had a bad day in tea world, I don’t know. It was just… lacking something! Thank you for the sample Tina!! maybe my next cup will be better.
Oh I almost forgot!! the second steep had this strong vegetal taste. I guess it was hiding behind all that mint. It seemed to redeem some of the tea, one of the reasons I think there is hope for it! :)
Jeeze, I could learn a thing or two from Daniel Powter.

Apparently we have two samples of this in the house, which is good because my wife almost had to smack a ho for using up one of them.
I’ve always liked the idea of chai. The spice blend is warm and comforting, and always smells amazing, but I am not a huge fan of cinnamon or licorice in my teas, and every chai I’ve ever tried always has an overabundance of one or the other. This chai, I am so happy to find out, does not!
I tried it sweetened, and it was a little too sweet for my taste, so just black it should be perfect. I’ll also have to try it with a little milk the next time we get some in the house.
Definitely going on the purchasing list for this Friday’s expedition to the Tea Haus. Am so excite!
Also, there is a term in the knitting community for a yarn-buying trip: SEX, a Stash Enhancement eXpedition. I think we need to adopt that over here on Steepster.
Preparation
I just finished this one today. As much as I enjoyed it, I’m not going to rush out and get this one again quite yet. I have other teas that I have to get through before I buy more. And actually, I’m gettin close to being done some of the other ones, so that’s good.
Man, do I ever buy a lot of tea… haha I have a coworker that is starting to get into tea, and it’s kind of funny ’cause I have all of my teas listed with their ingrediants in a word doc and I printed it for her… she was amazed at how much I have…
Such a simple, unassuming tea, but very delicious.
I’ve been drinking orange pekoe for years, and it wasn’t until I tried a loose-leaf OP that I finally realized what it was suppose to taste like. I found this one to not be too heavy, as long as you don’t oversteep it. And it has the simple but lovely taste of an OP.
I bought 100g of this, so I should be set for a bit with it.
Preparation
I had a sad moment this morning when I went to make this tea… I brewed it as usual, but when I poured my milk into it, it curdled. I knew the milk had to be getting close to done, but I didn’t realize it was bad… It made me so sad… I had to dump the tea, and resteep.
The good news in all this, I resteeped this tea a second time, and I let it sit for a bit, and it was awesome. It was just as good as a first steeping would have been. I like my black teas pretty strong and this held up really well. I was very happy. I’m loving this tea!
This tea was a bit of a surprise to me.
About four of us went ahead this past weekend and placed our first order with The Tea Haus. I have never tried their teas before but was dying to. The prices alone made me feel like I needed to try it.
The smell of this one is DEVINE! It smelt good enough to eat. It was sweet and creamy smelling. Even my husband wanted to try it, so I made a large steeper full of it and steeped it for the three minutes they recommend.
He wasn’t a huge fan of it; said it smelt better than it tasted (which in some ways I understand). But I’m also the type that adds the milk and sugar to my tea, (Just skim milk, nothing too heavy) so to me it tasted wonderful. I felt it was kinda similar to Check Mate from DavidsTea. Only difference is Check Mate is a bit more subtle then this one. But this one is so delicious! I think I may have to order more of it. It is amazing.
I’m very excited about my new find of The Tea Haus. I think I’m going to have a lot of happy ordering happening in the future with them. And too, since it’s not too far from home, I may have to pop in there when I’m in town.
Preparation
There’s a story that goes along with how I got this tea. When I was at the Tea Haus in March, I asked after a replacement cup for my favourite tea set, which had the cup broken a while ago due to cat antics. Sadly the lovely owner of the store said that while she knew of a line onto the lids, the cups were not replaceable. I was sad, but completely understood since I’d gotten the set more than five years ago and just as Jenaerglas was closing. I had a great tea trip regardless, and kissed my last hope of a replacement cup goodbye.
Fastforward a week and a half, and I walk into work to see a box waiting in my work mailbox. Now I hadn’t ordered anything for a while, so my first thoughts were that it was meant for someone else. Until I saw that it was from the Tea Haus. I opened up the box and the owner? Had mailed me the last cup she had in her own personal collection that fit my set, AND three tea samples, including this one. She didn’t ask for anything in return, she simply gifted it to me out of the kindness of her heart. How’s that for customer service??
But yes, this tea. The entire box smelled of the orange from this tea even before I opened it up. How I waited this long to try it I still have no idea. I brewed up the entire sample tonight at work and shared it with a coworker and fellow tea lover. We both agreed the first thing we noticed was how smooth it was. This was a delightful cuppa, and oh man was it full of orange flavour. In fact other than the lack of the creamy factor, it is nearly identical to my beloved Honeybush Orange. If you’re an orange fan, I highly recommend them both!
Preparation
Please tell the owner she is both awsome and an amazing person! It is people like her with little random acts of kindness that make the world go round!
I christened my Gawain today… and what a bang to break it open with!! this was SO good.
Fruity and light, and sweet without any additives whatsoever. I taste pineapple and mango, with a more natural tea honey coming out in later infusions. Just wow.
I’m not ready to write up a full on, per-steep review… but I will soon!
Big BIG thank you to the kind owner of Tea Haus for this sample <3
LOL patience m’dear :)
It seems I need to do proper gawain sessions when I don’t have a sore throat… and when there is nobody else in the house. Shhhhhh, the girl needs silence! ha. yes I am a tea diva.
Haha, I need silence to do a proper tea review as well! I have to turn off my music when I’m writing something :P Otherwise I can’t concentrate well enough.
takes a bow Thank you Bonnie ;)
Krystaleyn: come to think of it, I can have some soft music playing… but nothing too distracting! I usually end up having tasting sessions in between cleaning bouts of house cleaning so I have to change what’s playing… or else I’d end up singing into my mop handle all afternoon :P
Hahahahaha, that gives me an amusing image! I suppose I could probably have soft instrumental music playing, but it’s probably an isolation of the senses sort of thing. Like if my ears are being assaulted, it takes away from the attention I can put towards taste and smell. I’m tired, I hope that makes sense.
I’m not a big nut person, but when I had multiple friends raving about this tea, I had to try it. And they were right, I wasn’t disappointed. There’s a nice creamy nutty flavour here, mellow and light but still lovely. It allows the tea to have its moment as well, making the blend the star rather than either of the individual notes. I can definitely see why people love this one and I may need to get more next time I’m at the store!
Preparation
I swear, I reviewed this already!!! Has anyone else experienced that? Knowing you documented a tea and then finding it missing not long after? It’s not my first time. (and yes, I’ve logged a bug report lol)
Anyhow, I’ve tried this both hot and cold now. Hot, it’s soothing and somewhat like tang, only… hot, with some woodsiness to it. Again with the simplicity! Cold, well, it’s pretty much the same only I find it gets a bit heavy and abrasive after half a cup. Perhaps if I took the time to brew it properly, I’d have better luck :)
No matter… Overall, I do like this one. It’s not love, but definitely like.
I’m trying to use up my teas. Ever feel frantic about how much you have and root through your cupboard to see what you haven’t had in ages? and then suddenly feel better when you deplete the massive pile by one cup?? ha! oh dear I need help…
but it was oh so good! if not a little stale.
Yes, it will come. Hahahaha, that made me laugh. I have so much tea I don’t know what to do with it! Oh yeah, drink it! Or give it away, that works too. I recently gave a ton of samples to a friend at work who wanted to expand her tea tasting experiences. Sometimes it’s more fun to give tea away than drink it yourself.
