Ah, yes…my favorite and fall back tea. I stayed up WAAAY too late last night watching the eclipse, and I need something that I know I like for this morning.

I don’t understand what I’m tasting, and it still always tastes somewhat cherry vanilla to me, but I love it. I am very, very tired right now. :)

My first tea after a hiatus (which lasted approximately as long as Phoenix was as hot as the surface of the sun). Still like this tea, and need to get more of it. There’s some flavor in it that reminds me of cherries, and it remains one of my favorites.

I do love this tea…good hot or cold (and I had it hot, and then cooled it down to have it cold). I gave some to my 7-year old son, and he said he liked it too.

I’m afraid to admit it, but I’m in love with a discontinued tea that I only have a sample of. ;~; Since I don’t have a ton I saved the leaves from yesterday in the fridge and brewed them up again tonight—I guess without thinking really, since I found this blend so wakeful the other day and 4 in the morning is NOT the time to be drinking an early-morning tea. I guess I just thought “herbal” and decided to go with it… my brain is fuzzy tonight.

Anyway, I added a bit too much sugar (I’m using one of my smaller mugs but added sugar like it was a bigger one—my brain is not cooperating at all!). It was a pleasant mistake, as with sugar (and perhaps it has something to do with being a second steep?) this tea is making me sleepy! I don’t know what kind of sorcery makes the same blend wakeful one day and sleep-inducing the next, but it’s definitely magic of some sort. It also tastes fantastic for day-old second-steeped leaves, especially for an herbal which usually just has a so-so second steep. In fact, the eucalyptus is even more prominent now and I can taste more of that signature tingling sensation. Upping the rating, though I do it with a heavy heart as I only have 2 cups left of this.

Kittenna

Haha, I noticed the other night that you were also up in the wee hours of the morning, and your note of the time confirms that we’re in the same time zone. Yay for being a night owl?? (I’m really not tired at all right now, since I had a huge nap, so I’m planning to stay awake until the farmer’s market opens at 7am so I can dash there and pick up some delicious goodies I haven’t had in far too long!)

Alphakitty

I am definitely a night owl! My sleep schedule is odd to say the least (some nights I am up till 2, some nights 8am!) but thankfully it doesn’t interfere with my life too much. I’ve actually been trying to use tea to regulate it (herbals at night, waking up a bit earlier and drinking blacks) since my doctors think I’m too young for actual sleeping meds. So far it’s working pretty well!

Finally digging into the treasure trove of loose-leaf samples from my Foodzie box from LiberTEAS! I made beef bowls tonight, and they were delicious but very spicy and a little heavy. I was feeling a little blargh-y afterwards and wanted something light and refreshing… and really, what fits that better than eucalyptus? I’ve never had it in a tisane before but when I was young my mom would always mix eucalyptus oil and water on the stove and boil it all day long, so this is a very nostalgic ingredient for me.

This is a light, airy, refreshing blend—a nice mix of citrus and mint, but it’s lively and not at all a sleep-inducing blend which I was a little worried about. There’s a tiny hint of fruit, but not enough to make this a “fruity” tea. It’s got a great balance, and is the perfect tea for following up an over-indulgent dinner. I used to think that I didn’t really like herbal blends, but I think my issue was with mediocre bagged ones—so far, I’ve liked pretty much all of the loose-leaf ones I’ve tried!

Someday I will subscribe to the foodzie box … someday….maybe I will be less poor when I stop buying so much tea!

Alphakitty

It’s definitely worthwhile—I was on a tea-buying hiatus when I saw that LiberTEAS put them back up for order. $25 with shipping for ~40 very generous samples was too good to pass up! Plus now I’ll have new tea to drink for well over a month, which should help with the urge to buy more.

LiberTEAS

@Azzrian – I love my foodzie box, I don’t think I could ever give up that subscription unless somehow we found ourselves at a point where we absolutely could not afford it any longer.

@Alphakitty: I’m really happy to hear that you like the box I put together for you. Since I receive a minimum of one box from Foodzie per month (occasionally, I’ll buy another one if I can’t resist the theme, like May had Portland box which I had to get because it was Portland, of course, and then they had the some like it hot box and I love spicy food. And … it does help me trim back on my tea supply so that I can keep the tea that I have on hand fresh.

Kittenna

Everyone was raving so much about the Foodzie boxes (from Foodzie, not LiberTEAS – I already bought a tea-filled one from her!) that I looked it up myself, and once again cursed the fact that I live in Canada. Something like that is so up my alley :(

This tisane is no longer on Souvia’s website, I suppose it was discontinued. It still tastes good, though. Bright citrus notes and nice minty taste. It’s a little light on the flavor, though, but it is a refreshing drink.

In an attempt to get through all of the teas in the huge box I received from LiberTEAS, I decided to randomly select one tea to sample whenever I have time to brew up more than just a couple of teas. I think today would qualify :)

Obviously, this is the tea I picked out! I’m a fan of earl greys – they bring back happy memories of getting tea drunk with my best friend back in elementary school. Great fun :) And more recently, they remind me of my boyfriend and his mom, as they both like earl greys and earl grey cream teas; his mom always serves them after dinner. Lately I haven’t had too many though, as I’m interested in exploring other flavours of tea.

Anyways, onto the review! The dry tea, in spite of many lavender blossoms, just smells like an earl grey. However, the lavender comes out quite strongly when steeped. I used a slightly heaping tsp for about a cup of water and am hoping it doesn’t come out too strong!

Not surprisingly, the dominant flavour in this cup is lavender, with bergamot notes and a vanilla finish. At three minutes of steeping, the tea is definitely not overpowering, and quite pleasant to drink without additions, which makes me happy. I think I could use a bit more cream/vanilla, and perhaps a touch less lavender, but this is tasty! Thanks LiberTEAS!

ETA: I realized a bit belatedly that this reminds me a lot of DavidsTea’s Jessie’s Tea, likely mostly because of the strong lavender flavour and creaminess. I think I preferred this tea though. Can’t compare the two because I sent off the remainder of Jessie’s Tea with my boyfriend, but that’s ok.

Also, second infusion of this one the next day is pretty good! 3min infusion. Can still taste the lavender, and am not really perceiving it as an earl grey until maybe the aftertaste. Definitely worth the second infusion though. Not sure about a third as I threw out the leaves to use the teaball for another tea – but they did still have some aroma left, so there might be further potential!

This sounds very pretty to watch let alone drink. I’m becoming a tea voyear.

Kittenna

Unfortunately lavender blossoms aren’t as pretty as they sound! But I wasn’t steeping in glass, so perhaps it looks nicer than my imagination thinks it would be :)

This is really quite pleasant. The chicory gives it a delicious toasty flavor and I love the gentle spiced flavor of it. It isn’t heavily spiced, but it is nice and warm. Cozy and comforting. Really nice.

Dry Leaf Aroma: The dry leaf has a shrub smell think woody thicker type shrubs. Their is a light sweetness to it think kind of like a sweet pea.
Wet Leaf Aroma: Has a floral note in it and a almost buttery or creamy smells almost like it is going to be heavy.
The Liquor: Yellow green in color and has a nice brightness. Good clarity doesn’t look murky.
Taste: There was the floral note I smelled along with the sweet pea flavor. The body texture feels watery not thick. The after taste is there but light. As this tea cools it seems like the after taste lasts a little bit longer in the after taste.
My Score: 88 Not the best Ti Kuan Yin I have had. If your looking for a great Tie Guan Yin and you don’t mind spending some money on it then my advise is to try Naivetea Mu Zha Tie Guan Yin This review is done in my humble opinion.

This is my first time drinking this tea but have seen this tea be called Jasmine pearls, Jasmine Dragon Pearls, Buddah tears and it seem like they come in a variety of prices. I would make sure you are getting good quality green tea that is scented with the jasmine flower not chemically scented just something to think about. Now, as for this tea it has a intoxicating aroma and a smooth body. I have not tried other jasmine pearls to really know how this tea compares in quality but from what I can tell seem high quality. I get about 4 good steeps before it’s flavor is gone. Now, I do know most people would say with scented teas you should not steep more than twice but I wanted to see what would happen if I pushed the steeping and amazingly enough it did a good job. This tea is light with a sweetness to it and a nice subtle jasmine flavor in it. I would say this is a good starter tea for a newbie since a lot “not all” new tea drinkers really like the floral teas in my humble opinion. The only con I would say is the price. She is not cheap at about 41.00/ 100 grams at the time of review. Overall, this is a beautiful tea that took time to make and a joy to watch open up in your cup. This type of tea I will always have in my cupboard.

The age of this tea or where exactly it came from was not told or given to me. That would be a plus if Souvia would give more information on the teas. Now, these Tuo Cha is nicely wrapped for something simple and convenient. The smell of it was earthy like wet or damp wood. Almost mushroom like. The taste was earthy with a light sweet wood taste that does go down smooth. I did get a few steepings not as many as I like to see with a pu-erh. Over all I would say this has nice quality to it and a better richness then other mini tuo cha.

Thank you TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this tea.

This is pretty tasty. I agree with my SororiTea Sister, it is very much like candy … not in a too sweet way, either, but in a tasty, delicious way that is both sweet and tart, but also a nice representation of the fruits that it possesses. This one isn’t on the website now, I don’t know if it’s been discontinued or what… but, I’m enjoying this. Nice as a late night sweet treat!

At first sniff, the scent of the tea is intensely sweet. I made the first batch too strong and while good, the result was so sweet it was like sucking on a Jolly Rancher. I learned from that and recent batches have been much lighter. It is an extremely fragrant tea. Half my pleasure in making it comes of getting that scent all over my kitchen.

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this … YUM!

I was thrilled to scoop out this tea – the aroma is intoxicating, and there are chunks of dried mango in there… this just seemed to bring a big smile to my face. Maybe it’s been a while since I’ve had a mango tea? I don’t know. But, I’m happy to be trying this one.

The brewed tea also smells amazing, and it has a very pleasant flavor. The black tea is strong and incredibly smooth, which seems to be emphasized by the smooth, sweet flavor of the mango. It tastes luscious, like the fruit itself.

Very nice. I’m really glad that I was able to try this one. I looked on the website, but didn’t find it … maybe temporarily sold out?

LiberTEAS

This is also remarkably good to drink with toast smeared with Justin’s Maple Almond Butter. But then… Justin’s Maple Almond Butter can make just about anything taste good.

CHAroma

Where do you get this Maple Almond Butter?

Here’s my review of the Maple Almond Butter: http://hungryinportland.wordpress.com/2011/08/31/maple-almond-butter-from-justins/

You can buy it online. I have also purchased it in Whole Foods and in Chuck’s Produce. Sometimes you can find in in Safeway too.

drank Raspberry Mint by Souvia

After my rather unfortunate experience with the last tea, I am hoping that this will help me take my mind off of that unpleasantness… normally, I wouldn’t turn to an herbal to help me in such a way, but, since it is now 11:40 pm, I figure I need to lighten up on the caffeine… otherwise I’ll never get to sleep.

This has a lot of hibiscus in it, but, fortunately it is apparent mostly with the color and texture of the liquor rather than the flavor. Yes, I still taste hibiscus too, but it rounds out the raspberry flavor nicely enough that I am not finding it to be an off-putting hibiscus experience.

The raspberry is nice. It is sweet and tart, but not too tart. The peppermint is a nice contrast to the sweet berry taste. I taste the apple tones, although I don’t know that I taste much from the chamomile here, and I don’t know what I’d taste from the bean peel. This has a nice, full kind of taste. It’s quite soothing.

One of my favorites — a Souvia tea I keep coming back to. They got the balance between the black and green teas just right. The orange peel adds just the right zing to this combo, and the other flavorings are not overpowering. A very nice, unique blend.

This is delicious. It is crisp, light and refreshing. I’m drinking it hot now, but I think I’ll brew more of it in a bit for my next pitcher of iced tea.

I had a cup of this earlier this week on my way out the door and didn’t have time to review it. So…

Today I am having another cup! It’s very good for an herbal. It’s minty without being too minty. It’s citrusy without being overly so. It has HINTS of fruity and floral notes too that are ‘just right’.

I wish I was laying in a field enjoying spring – instead – I’m stuck in a office…under florescent lights…sigh…

This is another new release from Souvia! Normally I don’t usually like fruity herbally tisanes because they are too sweet or fruity or tart or full of hibiscus BUT…this is nice! This is a TREAT…candy ALL Round! This doesn’t have hibiscus in it! YAY! The purple/red you may see is beet root. Sure…it’s tarty and fruity but the sugary and candied fruits help counteract that. I’m think this would be best iced but it’s pretty tasty hot today, too! Yup! The key is the candied and granulates ingredients! And I’m not going to lie…I grabbed one of the lemon granulates and gnawed on it while the rest infused! NomNomNom…

Most unusual but most tasty!

Bean Peels? I’m game!

I will say it’s more raspberry-E than minty. The mint is quite subtle. The berry is prominent to the nose and on the tongue. The flower combo is pretty and accompanying and not overdone. Neither is the hibiscus! Just the right amount! I can taste the apples more in the aftertaste as an individual flavor rather than during the initial sip. Overall…creative, different, good…I’m thinking even better ICED but this hot isn’t bad either!

This is a brand new one from Souvia and I am very excited to try it! It’s my first cuppa the day! It has a nice medium black tea taste. I am LOVING the REAL chunks of mango in here! YUM! Now this is how mango tea SHOULD be! I was skeptical when I read this was supposed to be “smooth” but you know what it DOES live up to the name and description in every way! It’s almost smoothie-like…a pure delight!!!!
