Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 15
My Plum Deluxe advent FINALLY arrived! Debating if I want to start opening it or just hold off on it for a bit.
As for this tea, I had it iced. It’s meant to be lemon and ginger but mostly it’s just a slightly medicinal rooibos with a touch of ginger finish. Nothing of interest really but nothing particularly bad either.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 14
This is Kenneth Ave’s cookie dough tea and while I can actually sort of see it, the base tea is piping up too much and drowning out the more baked goods flavor. It definitely has a vanilla dough sort of vibe to it at first but the briskness of the black tea that creeps up takes you out of the moment. That’s probably why they suggest adding a splash of milk (which isn’t my favourite thing to do. However, I did it with the last little bit in my cup. Did it help? Not really.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 12
This was a super underwhelming pull from today’s advent. When I go to their site, it’s just listed as “fair trade green tea”. It doesn’t even specify a type of green tea. So I guess in that sense its approachable to new tea drinkers who heard green tea is good for you and don’t want to be overwhelmed by trying to determine the difference between sencha, gunpowder, etc. For me, it’s just boring. The nice side of that is its not overly flavorful and as someone who doesn’t love green teas, it makes this easier to mindlessly drink while I study.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 10
This is basically a mint tea with a bunch of other herbals and hibiscus added. I was worried it would taste sort of wonky because of the additives but mostly its just a mint tea. That’s fine but also not interesting. Unfortunately that seems to be the case with a lot of these Kenneth Ave teas – alright but meh.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 9
Voluspa makes a Birthday Cake candle that I love the smell of. Not overly sweet but distinctly birthday cake. This smelled just like that and got me excited. I made it as an eggnog latte and was sure it was a tea I was going to enjoy. So I was pretty disappointed when I started drinking the latte and it was just a touch of sweet on otherwise mediocre black tea.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 8
Where as yesterday’s Kenneth Ave advent tea reminded me of DAVIDsTEA’s Forever Nuts, today’s tea is channeling DAVIDsTEA’s Santa’s Secret. I had it as an eggnog latte and the two are very similar. With that said, Santa’s Secret edges this out a bit for being a bit smoother, while this had a touch more menthol to it. Nice drink but I already own the DAVIDsTEA version, which I like more.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 7
I opened my DIY advent and saw Pistachio Praline. Then I opened this advent and found this nut tea. Then my Dollar Tea Club package arrived for the month and the first tea I pulled out is Forever Nuts. I am not too happy about this tea profile popping up everywhere.
I loved the DAVIDsTEA version of Forever Nuts the first time I had it. The second time I had it, it was like a switch was flipped and even the smell was off putting. Speaking of which, I also received a Forever Nuts tea sample in my DAVIDsTEA order that arrived this weekend. Why is this tea everywhere?
This is nutty but also has hibiscus and cacao. I actually think this is the best take on it and it is because it is predominantly hibiscus and cacao. The nuttiness comes through in the middle of the sip but its not as overwhelming as Forever Nuts or Pistachio Praline was. Also, something about this profile is making me think of Caramel Corn from DAVIDsTEA, which again I loved at first but quickly fell out of love with. It’s just got a popcorn vibe to it in the middle with tart hibiscus at the front of the sip and an end note of chocolate. Not a tea I want again but better than the others.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 5
One sip and the rest went down the drain. I pulled it out and knew this wasn’t going to be a good one for me because puerh. However, I brewed it up anyways because Roswell Strange has sent me a couple puerhs last year that were tolerable. Except as soon as I pulled the filter out, the strong puerh sent hit me and I just knew I would not like this. One sip and the puerh wasn’t terrible if I am being honest but it was still a strong puerh taste. The other flavor was coffee, real coffee, and I don’t drink that either for a reason. So I wasn’t a fan. But I am not its target audience by a long shot.
Oh dear. I’ve only had a handful of pu’erhs, but they always smell fishy to me. I can’t get past it to want to try others…
I’ve had a puerh or two that I quite enjoyed, but it’s just not something I care to explore at this point. And if I did, it would be more likely to be sheng puerh anyway. :)
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 4
I cold brewed this since it was a whole lot of fruit and that seemed like a good call. It’s got a lot note strawberry sweetness than I expected. It’s like those candies in strawberry wrappers grandparents always seem to have. With a touch of lemon. I sort of expected more apple flavour for some reason but I’m happy that’s not the case. I do wish it had more lemon though. Also, while this is good, it doesn’t stand out among the seas of strawberry lemonade offerings out there.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 1
This is a rooibos with papaya and almond. Kenneth Ave gives you 2 servings of a tea per day so for today’s tea I decided to use both servings to make an eggnog latte. Mostly I don’t usually love almond in teas because I don’t love marzipan so I figured this way the eggnog would cover stuff up a bit.
It’s better than I expected. It definitely has a marzipan quality to it so I won’t be restocking this but it works alright when paired with the eggnog and generic fruitiness of the papaya. Overall, not bad.
Yay for new teas!
I feel sorry you had to wait that much! But on the other hand it’s with you and always YAY for new teas!
The black hole mail void has been particularly terrible lately. Glad it finally spat out your tea.
The wait hasn’t been terrible since I have had 5 other advent calendars to keep me busy. I decided I will open the last of the plum deluxe blends starting tomorrow after I write my last exam.
