Jing Tea
Edit CompanyRecent Tasting Notes
This is one off my favorite black tea’s it fits for me personally on the same line then alot off assam tea’s. Strong full body but in stead off the malty tastes from assam tea’s this one got a sweet touch. I like drinking this in the morning because it wakes me up pretty good.
Usually my brew time for this tea is about 3min for the first cup and 5 for the second… both cups give a very dark brown liquor that smells like no other!
When i’m really into this one i brew sometimes a third cup, its a bit less in flavor tough it still tastes better then most bagged tea’s!
Preparation
I received this flowering dragon eye last month with my subscription on jing tea. Very exited to try my first flowering tea!
Before infusing this green tea ball i notice a very strong flower smell probably the marigold or the amaranth giving that special scent.
The tea ball seems to be tight very well together, so its ready to pour boiling water over it. I’m a little bit surprised to use boiling water on green tea but its on the package label so we use it. When the infusion starts everything is going on at once, the ball floats on the top of the water and slowly starts to sink and unfurl revealing the yellow marigold flower, then the jasmine arch gets raised with the beautiful amaranth flower on top!
Have to say one off the most pretty tea’s i ever drank, its a bit sad to pour the tea into my cup because everything fall flat when the water is gone.
Anyway time to let this baby cool and start tasting!
The color of the brew turns out to be a golden green tint and looks very tastfull. My first sip i can clearly pick out the jasmine mixed in are different tastes but thats from the other 2 flowers in there. Very good taste not to overwhelming aroma’s. I’m happy with this, going to make some more infusions from the same bulb. Pretty sure the other brews are going to be good in taste to. So going to make a new note soon!
Preparation
Ok second time i’m trying this, this time i got a feelings its more something i appreciate. Used almost double the amount off leafs from first time and lowered the temperature to 60°c. Its got alot more sappy almost hay like taste. A bit like dragon well but without the citrus/hazelnut notes. Its not bitter at all… just a refreshing cup off green tea.
I’m still not sure if this tea is for me personal worth the extra euro’s because this is a rather expensive green tea… lucky for me i won this sample on a facebook give away a while ago otherwise i probably wouldn’t have ordered it due to the higher price range.
Preparation
I just had a first experiment with my pre rain anji bai cha from jing tea. The package said to brew with 60°c water but i was to late to put the kettle off so i decided to brew around 70°c…
First thing i notice is that this got a very pale color. When i’m sipping my cup i taste no bitterness and a light floral/vegitable notes. Have to say its a very light tasting green tea… maybe i’m brewing it really to hot!
Going to try this again later today or tomorrow with the correct temp like the package said. But for now this one is a bit to light in taste…
maybe anyone got some tips on how long and at what temp u guys/girls usually brew this type off tea! Leave a comment if so thanks in advance!
Preparation
i already did recommend this rose tea to someone here on steepster because i was impressed by the taste off this one. Its got a very good keemun black tea base and the rose scent comes from whole rose flowers. It looks beautiful when u open the package with the dry leaf in it and the smell is just like a rose garden!
When brewing this for 3min it results in a great yellow/brownish colored cup off tea with a very strong rose smell to it.
Taste wise u get the good keemun combined with the sweet and maybe a bit sour taste off roses its incredible if you ask me! a good tea to relax in the evening even if blacks are usually breakfast tea’s…
Preparation
There is no picture off the tea in the description because the tea is not for sale anymore on the jing tea website. Its a shame tough this loose leaf green tea is a very good jasmine tea. I can compare this to jasmine pearls but lighter and a bit less in jasmine perfume.
Brewing this tea for 3min with low temp water around 65°c gives a beautiful light green brew. Taste wise its good for up to 3 brews…
Like i said before its a bit sad its not for sale anymore but on the other hand the jasmine pearls are better and stronger in taste. But for the people who like less strong jasmine taste this is a great example!
I had a lot off this oolong when i first tryed out the oolong sub-category but i kind off lost its magic. Don’t get me wrong i love this tea, but if i need to choose in the green oolong category i’m going for ali shan!
But i’m going to give a heads up about this tea. The leaves are rolled beautifully in tiny balls or pellets. When they unfurl they are pretty big in size and give a nice light green brew. I’m usually getting about 4 cups out off one teaspoon of these tiny balls of tea. Western style brew that is first cup 2 min and then i’m upping the brew time each time by one min.
Taste wise this is very refreshing and with alot off citrus hints like the discription says. Its nice and fresh but i’m missing the special quality’s i’m getting in a ali shan oolong…
But its a great tea for its price, very great indeed! To bad my taste buds are choosing for a more expensive oolong these days! Maybe because i drank about 200 gram off this tea in the last year or so… don’t know but well tastes changes over time!
Preparation
been drinking tis again in the last few days, i’m appreciating it alot more now. Have to say this is a very very forgiving tea and thats unusual for a black. I totally forgot about my teapot when i was brewing the tea. After 15min i got my first brew out and it was still not bitter not to strong… i was surprised it tasted like a 5min brew!
going to make a quick update about this one.
Setting aside its way less smokey then your average lapsang the subtile tastes this tea gives makes it a exellent medium body tea. I’m appreciating it a bit more then a couple off days ago. Maybe it has something to do with the expectations i had being more in the other direction, i’m not really sure but well… enjoying this again!
Been almost a month when i last uploaded a tasting note!
Here we go got this bohea lapsang a while ago, but just about now got to tasting it.
The dry leaf look like plain regular black tea leafs they smell a little bit smokey. Way less smokey then i expected it to be. So now i’m going to make a brew for 3min with boiling water. The color off the steep is a deep dark brown and smells again less smokey then i expected. But i’m tasting tea thats smoked, so thats a good thing!
I really don’t like when the smoke taste is overwhelming this one is gentle, maybe even a bit to gentle. I’m liking it tough a good tea but not sure if i’m going to order it alot. Thing is that they got a superior quality in there range so maybe i need to look there next time!
Preparation
Bueno, pues suerte que tenemos una gran tetería en Málaga que siempre podemos probar buenas cosas. Esta vez quise rascarme el bolsillo y probé este (ya tenía referencias) suave, aterciopelado, aromático. El mejor té verde que he probado.
Preparation
Sipdown, 194. Second test of my kettle/setup/tastebuds is an unflavored green oolong that I have had before and recently, so I know what the flavors should be.
This is a butterier oolong, but the flavor is lying within the acceptable range of savoriness for this tea. This tea is lightly floral, buttery, and fresh and green. Quite a nice oolong, and it convinces me that whatever problem I was having yesterday is finally gone.
Preparation
The number of varietals of oolongs out there will never cease to amaze me. I got a sample of this one from KittyLovesTea, thanks! I’ve never tried a Huang Jin Gu oolong, unless of course it has another name, which is totally possible.
While it was steeping the most amazing buttery, sweet, floral aroma was wafting out of the cup. It smells amazing and its making it hard to wait until it is cool enough to drink. The flavor is less sweet and buttery than it smelled, but it is still pretty floral, with a lot more leafy vegetal notes coming out. It’s a little sugar snap pea, but not quite so sweet, more like sauteed leafy greens with lilacs. Fresh and green and pleasant.
Preparation
I tought i had ready made a note about this one, but it seems not!
I’m making a total off 3 cups from this great genmaicha, its dry leafs are regular sencha but its mixed with little bits off dark roasted rice some off the rice even popped open to little white balls like popcorn! There is a reason they sometimes call it popcorn tea!
The taste is like sencha offcourse but a little bit more grainy like in taste because off the rice.
Brew 1:70°c 3min very bright sencha tastes and a little roast
Brew 2: 70°c 4min a bit milder in sencha more roasted rice taste
Brew3: 70°c 5min losing flavors a bit but i’m still enjoying the mixed rice/sensha tasted
Preparation
note to self: the last off my package is in my teapot now!
But i’m feeling a bit sad brewed it way to strong there where more leafs over then i tought was there. I had to use my normal amount and add the rest in a second or third cup. Ah well going to brew shorter 2nd and 3th cup now! Hopefully there going to turn out super good like usual!
Still 2 tea’s from my green tea explorer left to taste and review. This one is the Dragon Well green tea. Tea dry tea leafs are really flat and you can see they are hand pressed in a wok.
I’m making 3 infussions from about a teaspoon off leafs, hard to judge the correct amount because they are flat and don’t really fit well on my teaspoon! So after getting the water to 70°c i’m brewing these for 3min in my small glass teapot. The color off this green tea is very pale green, the lightest color off green i’ve had in a long time!
I’m letting it cool down to get sipping soon, altough i’m a bit worried that i might have been using not enough leaf, like i said hard to judge so i’m letting it cool some more!
10min later: finally i’m going to taste this tea! while still a bit warm for my green tea comfort zone it seems that this one is sweet in taste and maybe a bit creamy. Didn’t remember this being creamy (i had this one maybe a year ago to) but i’m liking the taste. I let this cool even more and now i’m getting a great nutty like after taste in my mouth!
Its a good quality dragon well, it looks pretty good in a glass teapot and i’m liking the after taste! Usually i’m more fond off real grassy green tea’s but this one is different and i like that!
edit: over the rest off the afternoon i had my second and third cup, the second cup was the superior one in taste with a 4min steep. The third cup with about 5min on the clock was good but more watery and a bit less in taste then the first 2 brews, but nevertheless still appealing to make!
Preparation
I got a sample of this tea from KittyLovesTea in our last swap. Thanks so much! I couldn’t resist, especially considering my craving for rose recently! I used the entire sample in a pot this morning.
I really enjoyed this tea. The Keemun base was nice and yummy… I am really starting to enjoy a solid Keemun-only base on simply flavored teas, like Lupicia’s Earl Grey. The rose was also lovely, rich and strong but never perfumey. It reminded me somewhat of Upton’s Rose Congou, but with a somewhat stronger, sweeter rose. Definitely a delicious tea.
Last night i was trying this organic gunpowder supreme, always when i see the word supreme i get high expectations! So far other tea’s from jing that are supposed to be supreme, are simpel enough better then there average tea (and thats already tasty).
So i opened my free sample i received ages ago (from a competition) and i see pretty big green balls off tea! They look moss green and smell pretty fresh. I’m taking one teaspoon off these leave’s and making myself a nice cup with 80°c water and let it steep for a bit less then 3min.
The taste is a great not metallic like some gunpowders can be, its not really grassy either its strong for a green tea but still very fresh when it first touches the mouth. After a few more sips and when the cup cools down more u get real great sweet mineral tasting tea.
I was really surprised off this tea, usually gunpowder is ‘cheap’ green tea but this is in price pretty cheap but has a very good quality to! Can recommend this gunpowder to any green tea lover!
More so i had there Moroccan Mint before and its a huge difference offcourse there is no mint in this one but still… didn’t expect there base tea to be this tasty on its own!
Preparation
Japanese teas are so fun to say. Hojicha … HOOJICHAA! :)
It always interests me when a green tea is not actually green in colour much like this tea. In appearance Hojicha is brown and looks like autumn leaves with no real significance. They are sharp, crisp and smell like toasted rice cakes.
The Jing packaging says to measure 1 tea spoon of leaves per cup and infuse for 3 minutes. I’m thinking of trying this in my Gongfu so I’m putting one and half spoons of leaves to get two cups worth of tea. (One for me and one for my husband).
Whilst the leaves are steeping I notice that they are floating in the top of my Gongfu, slowly they are sinking down one by one as they expand in the water.
Once infused the tea is a golden yellow colour with a thick rice and floral scent. Very similar to it’s raw form in smell.
My first sips reveal sweetness with toasted rice behind it. It starts of reasonably strong before mellowing out quickly in my mouth which leaves a sweet foggy after taste. It’s similar to Genmaicha or Lan Gui Ren but not as thick or heavy, it most certainly does not taste like a green tea.
The second steep was infused for 4 minutes and it’s much more delicate and for me preferable. It picks up a more pronounced floral hint and the sweetness is much more subtle.
Overall I don’t think this tea is for me, it tastes too similar to many other teas I already have and well it’s just not as nice. I think I will stick with my Lan Gui Ren the next time I want a rice cake tea.
Preparation
Ah, not one of my favourites either, but it is a good accompaniment to a heavy meal. I’ll have to check out that Lan Gui Ren!
It’s not that there is anything wrong with it but nor is there anything special about it either (in my opinion). As for the Lan Gui Ren it was very different yet similar, not only did it have the toasted rice cake charm but it’s also vegetal, sweet and fresh in a floral sort of way. I certainly recommend it :)
hm wanted to try this one sooner or later, but if its really that look a like to genmaicha then i’m probably going to pass
without a doubt one off my all time favorite black tea’s, this 50gram bag got opened in the same time with 3 other blacks and a few white, oolongs and its getting empty fast!
Drinking 4cups a day over the last week and i’m totally liking the fresh and vibrant light taste off this tea. its more like drinking a good oolong instead off a black tea!
