Tuesday 04/06/21 — Inca Tea Mountain of Mango. 2 sachets brewed as hot & plain tea loose in a steeper basket. Something to sip down end of my work shift/evening when I went home.

Monday 2/1 On a roll for the start of February yay! Made 2 sachets as loose leaf tea in a metal strainer and brewed it hot & drank it cold later in the day. Can’t really remember any distinct flavor other than fruity, I have a box of these sachets and they are years old so it doesn’t taste bad, but another reason to drink fruity tisanes teas sooner than later.

Gift from ashmanra.

A blend of black teas with purple corn in a sachet.

Brewed in 8oz at 205F for 4 minutes.

It was death, the blackest black I’d ever seen. I drank it anyway. Dense malt with some cocoa, a little spicy, hints of purple corn, bitter, metallic. STRONK. I was like why tf does this taste way overbrewed? It’s full leaf tea not fannings. I turned my head toward the sachet sitting on the lid to my cup and was like OH. It was almost bursting at the seems with leaf. Enough for a large pot, too much for a mere cup. But there was no turning back. I had written my fate in the devil’s ink. What laid in store was hours of misery as I battled caffeine sickness.

Dummy got owned by some frilly sounding word for teabag.

Hello friends I miss you. I’ve been missing being on steepster. So I grabbed a bag of this from my mom . I’ve seen this a few places and seems to be really pricey for bagged tea. I know it’s has the purple corn but I wonder if that’s just something to try and sell the tea. Smells pretty good dry. Then I see the red and know there’s hibiscus in there…kind of a disappointment to me. Flavor is just okay. Slightly bitter. It’s just alright.

Backlog:

A very robust black tea – lots of gusto to this one. This is one that can give your day an energizing boost. The black tea base is comprised of three different teas, although the website for Inca Tea did not indicate which teas are used. I suspect that there is an Assam in there because of the rich, malty tones and the hint of bitter. It has a very round taste to it. It’s a really pleasing, satisfying tea.

The purple corn doesn’t add a really strong flavor to the cup, but I can taste notes of ‘grain’ that I attribute to the corn and I like the way these flavors play with the notes of malt.

A really enjoyable cup. It’s a tea I’d recommend if for no other reason than the fact that it’s different (purple corn!) and I’d love to find out what others think of it.

Backlog:

The mango smells stronger than it tastes, especially in the dry leaf. The dry leaf smells strongly of mango. Once brewed, the mango notes seem to taper, and the flavor the mango is less assertive than the dry leaf aroma. But it is a clear and focused flavor and I like that.

I got a tangy citrus note toward the tail with this and I’m not sure where that came from unless that’s part of the “natural flavors.” The purple corn notes are not as strong as they were with other teas that I’ve tried from Inca, but they are discernible. The hibiscus here is not a prominent flavor and I’m happy about that.

It makes an awesome iced tea.

The aroma is very abundantly PEACH, as is the flavor. I love the peach notes here, it doesn’t taste like a fake peach note. I wasn’t thrilled to find hibiscus in the blend – not my favorite! – but I do appreciate the slight hint of tartness it offers the cup because it’s a nice contrast to the sweet peach notes. That said, I feel like the presence of both the hibiscus and the rosehips interfere just a little too much with the flavor of the white tea, as it seems somewhat obscured in this blend.

It’s a tasty blend though. I enjoyed tasting the purple corn notes, the peach is delightful, but I would like to taste more white tea.

As I mentioned in my full-length article about this tea: http://sororiteasisters.com/2014/08/22/peruvian-spiced-berry-tisane-from-inca-tea/ I wasn’t too sure what to think of a tea made with purple corn. It sounded weird. But I was willing to give it a try.

A spicy-sweet scent before brewing. After the tea is brewed, it smells of spiced fruit. The cinnamon and clove are not too overwhelming here though. It smells a bit like a spiced berry compote.

It’s a tasty tisane. And yes, I can taste the corn! It adds a somewhat nutty, grainy flavor to the cup that is more like a background note than something that is strong and forward. The berries and spice is the prominent flavor.

Overall, it tastes a bit like a spiced berry cobbler – and yum! If I had to change anything about it, I’d rather there not be hibiscus in it as I’m not a hibiscus fan. But even with the hibiscus, it’s a fairly tasty tisane. I enjoyed it and would drink it again.
