Mmmmmm. I tried this with cream instead of just drinking it black and wow… It’s pretty luxurious. Even though I accidentally steeped it for 6 minutes it doesn’t taste astringent or anything. I’ll have to keep this tea around for when I want a basic black.

Update: This does NOT taste good once it goes cold though. :| I need to learn to drink things quick, or use my tumbler.

This was the first time I added a tea to the database. Figures I had a typo in the title with my tablet, and now I can’t correct it! Can someone please fix it for me?

So this was my first loose-leaf Rooibos. I tried drinking some bagged Rooibos when I was pregnant because I wanted caffeine free drinks, but it was awful. I wasn’t too sure if this would be much better, but it was great. Now I’m excited to try more.

The vanilla and almond mix together quite pleasantly and the smell and is soooo good. I can’t wait to try more Rooibos teas.

I bought 50g of this today on impulse, even though I sorta promised myself to stop doing that in case I end up with more duds. I was shopping with sgoertz and I got caught up in all the excitement about all the new teas. (My original plan was to buy a shiny red tin full of Red Velvet Cake, which I did… but then I bought this and a sample of Pink Flamingo too! Guess I better stay away for at least a few weeks).

But today is not that day where I regret my impulse purchases. This is SO GOOD, and is totally worth the price DT charges for white teas. It smells like fresh baked goods coming out of the oven. It tastes…. mmmm…. it tastes like butter and chocolate and sugar wrapped up in warm caramel and melt in your mouth goodness. It leaves a bit of an odd aftertaste on your tongue – but it’s not unpleasant.

When I looked at the dry tea, I noticed there were a few walnuts in there. I mashed them up into little bits because I wanted the walnuts to be mixed more thoroughly in the blend. The leaves are pretty – all sorts of sizes and shapes! This is the second time I’ve had white tea (the first being Persian Apple) and I’ve been satisfied. Both blends have been heavily mixed with other things though, so I can’t say that I really know what a white tea tastes like.

I plan to re-steep this one over and over – at $10/50g I’m going to need to make this last!

SIDE NOTE: For those of you who shop at DavidsTea all the time, have you bought many of those $3 sample bags? The lady said that those are actually cheaper to buy than if we buy it from the shelf. Maybe it’s old stock? I grabbed the Pink Flamingo from there and I’m looking forward to trying it – 25g is perfect for sampling. I’ll have to keep an eye on how often they add teas to that section.

I decided to splurge on this a few months back with some birthday money – otherwise I don’t know that I would have dropped $30 on a tumbler! For me the biggest selling point was the sleek narrow design – it’ll actually fit in the cup-holder on my stroller! The other one I have barely fits, and if you go over any kind of bump it’ll fall out, so…. not practical.

I bought the green one – my favourite colour – and I’ve been impressed with it! It is amazing at keeping the heat in, and I haven’t had any issues with it leaking. It’s really sturdy and stylish too. I like simple designs.

The only downside: it’s amazing at keeping the heat in. I brew my tea and then it takes FOREVER to cool so that I can actually drink it. I’ve started to brew it in a mug and then pour it in the Timolino instead.

Oh, there’s also a little storage compartment in the lid. I imagine this would be useful once I’m off maternity leave, and I stash extra leaves for my afternoon tea break.

We went into DavidsTea today to check out the new advent calendars and other goodies; it was crazy! Guess everyone else had the same idea. They ended up giving us a free cup to-go for being so patient, which was great because I was excited anyways and the staff was already extra courteous. I figured I’d go for the Chocolate Chili Chai.

If my bf wasn’t sitting there waiting patiently I would have been tempted to buy more than I did. :O Those perfect tea mugs look great – I know I’m late to the game, but I really like the large fall one they put out with all the trees on it (http://www.davidstea.com/giant-perfect-tea-mug-forest?&TF=69F219E5A1A1&DEID=). I LOVE the giant sized cups, and have been a bit out of sorts ever since I dropped my favourite mug on the floor 7 months ago. The Christmas ones are lovely, but are too specific to the season for me to want to use them all year round… I’m hoping I can suggest it as a Christmas gift! :P But then if the bf is paying attention at all he can just get me a gift card for DavidsTea and let me snag all the goodies myself – that’s part of the fun after all! #spoiledROTTEN

(Oooh – does anyone know if DT does anything for Boxing Week? :P)

Anyways… on to the tea!

The first few sips were really good. The chocolate was smooth and it didn’t taste weak. The chili was a nice balance too. I love the smell too – I walked into the living room and the whole room smelled delightful!

Unfortunately, I had to let it sit for an hour or so and there must have been a few loose leaves in it or something because it tastes a little murky now. Or maybe that’s just what happens when it cools. I had originally originally planned on rating it in the 80’s or so. Now I’m not sure where to put it. Guess I’ll have to try it again. :)

Wow!!!

I can’t believe how amazing this is. I had a super rough day today and had planned to drink this in the evening as a reward. Am I ever happy that it tastes as good as it smells.

Both dry and brewed, it smells sweet and creamy – very reminiscent of fresh cake from the oven! I haven’t actually had Red Velvet Cake (that I know of), which is why I was hesitant about trying it, but I’ll have to rectify that as well!

I could sip away at this all evening! It’s already sweet enough that I don’t have to add anything to it, although a bit of milk or cream might be satisfying. What does it actually taste like? Well, like chocolate and icing and warmth and warms hugs on a cold night, cats purring as they snuggle up to you, insert metaphor here.

I will HAVE to get some of this. Maybe even 100g in a pretty red tin? As a dessert tea, I like this even more than my pumpkin chai!

I realised I was getting low on my DavidsTea Cream of Earl Grey. If I want to compare it to Murchie’s Earl Grey Cream, I’d better do it soon!

Dry: Visually the DT Earl Grey looks nicer as there are a lot of pretty blue cornflowers sprinkled throughout. It smells really pleasant with the bergamot and vanilla. Alternatively, M’s Earl Grey has yellowish cornflowers mixed with the tea leaves. It smells really good as well – perhaps it has a bit more bergamot? DT’s smells “creamier” but judging by smell alone I don’t know that I could pick one over the other.

Steeped for 3 ½ minutes: I… really shouldn’t have done this the day AFTER I really burned my tongue. But, here we go!
The M’s has a nice cream flavour with lots of bergamot, but it still tastes bitter. I really like Murchie’s black/green blends, but for some reason I keep finding their blacks too strong for my taste – it just gives me a bitter aftertaste. Did I get a bad batch? It’s too strong to drink without cream at least. The DT’s blend doesn’t have that problem. It tastes creamier and milder. If the Murchie’s blend didn’t have that bitter aftertaste, it might even have more flavour than DT’s, but as it is I have to go with DT’s.

With Cream: Murchie’s taste far less bitter without the cream in it. I even notice a bit of sweetness. No complaints here! With DT’s, it’s almost like the cream has washed out some of the flavours – it’s not nearly as good with the cream. I’ve had it with milk before and that was very good though.

Verdict: If I’m drinking it black, or with 2% milk, DavidsTea wins. If I’m adding cream, or making a latte, then Murchies all the way!

As I said before this is a decent blend with some strong coffee and chocolate flavours, but considering I paid as much for this as I could have for Pumpkin Chai or Stormy Night at DavidsTea, I won’t be getting any more.

I drank half an oz of it, and enjoyed it, but am happily trading it away to someone who I hope will appreciate it more! :)

Whoops. This is one of teas I bought when I first started shopping at DavidsTea and I bought 100g or nothing.

I like this one. The ginger is quite strong but the orange helps mellow it out. This isn’t one I would drink every day though. It’s good if I’m in the mood, or I want to settle my stomach, but really: when will I ever finish this tea up?

(Maybe I can drink enough of it that I can stuff it in a little foil bag, then fill the tin with…. Cookies dough?)
