Had this a couple of days ago. One of the best oolongs I have ever had. Slight to no astringency. Honey and floral notes with a slight buttery taste. Aroma was very much like a typical oolong with hints of burnt grass.

Having another go at this tea. Very enjoyable the second time around too! I was reading through mrmopar’s review and am really picking up on the scotch notes. It’s odd to say it, but it really does have a scotch taste to it. Overall very enjoyable.

Not my favorite cup of tea. The more and more raw pu er I try the more and more I’m not sure I like it. This one has a strong tobacco aroma from my gaiwan, although there is little to no aroma from the liquor. The first infusion has a light color and a light, sweet taste. There are hints of dark fruit. Perhaps plums or cherries. The second infusion brings forth a tobacco taste and slight dryness in the mouth. The taste increases and the liquor darkens ever so slightly to a muddy green. The third and fourth infusions brought forth an almost smoky green tea flavor much like a gunpowder. Anyways, we’ll see what my next sheng brings…

I liked this, but it was not my favorite shou. The aroma is sweet, earthy, and wet. There is some fruitiness and maybe some citrus present as well. The taste is smooth, earthy, and reminiscent of citrus and wet autumn leaves. Very smooth taste.

This was a wonderful black tea. Overall it was very mellow, mild, and smooth.

I steeped this near boiling, around 200 degrees, in my gaiwan with 5g of tea. The first infusion brought forth a light orange liquor with a light black tea taste and hints of chocolate. It is almost sweet with no astringency. The aroma is sweet and fruity, almost like cherries.

The second and third infusions darkened the liquor to a golden orange color. Still light for black tea, but very beautiful. The taste was smooth and creamy, with increasing notes of chocolate and a slight astringency reminiscent of a Golden Monkey. The flavor becomes much more well balanced with equal notes of savoriness and sweetness.

One of the first oolongs I’ve tried outside of a Chinese restaurant, so my palate is not well developed. I steeped this in my gaiwan with 5g of tea and 180-200 degree water.

The first and second steeps were reminiscent of fields and meadows. The aroma was sweet and smelled of hay and honey. The initial taste was very strong and bold, with notes of butter, fall leaves, foliage, and a dominant honeysuckle taste.

The third steep lost some of the initial sweetness and fruitiness, moving more towards the hay and fall flavors. It tasted almost like brown (dry) grass and honey.

The fourth steep brought an increase in savoriness. The sweetness yet again was lower, while a slight astringency creeped in.

The fifth and final steep brought a loss of much flavor and the realization that it was time to say goodbye to these leaves. It was very much full of hay, honey, and butter, but much more mild than before. Everything was subdued.

Overall I really enjoyed this tea and would recommend it!

Another new experience for me. I did not purchase the entire Basics Set from White2Tea but rather received this as a sample from a trade. This review is thus a standalone review.

To start, this tea has a great complexity of flavors and aromas. The aroma is sweet and grassy at the same time, almost like a wheatgrass with notes of hay. At the same time there is the slightest hint of smokiness.

The taste is one of my favorites so far in the raw puerh world. The initial flavor is sweet and reminiscent of honey. It then quickly moves to a slightly sour grass with a nice astringent finish. The aftertaste is of smoke and tobacco.

I thoroughly enjoyed these differing and complex flavors contained within the single tea. Although they seem to contradict as I am writing this, it somehow all works together in the tea. I’m going to look more into teas similar to this one!

One of my favorite teas of all time and an excellent product from Adagio. Warm and naturally sweet with notes of caramel, vanilla, earth, and just liquid warmth.

Hello everyone,

I’m a recent college grad just beginning my career. I love reading and spending time outdoors hiking, cycling, or just sitting in a hammock with a book.

I was first exposed to tea from my mother, who has been drinking a few types of green tea for ages. During high school and college I started to explore on my own and have become a tea enthusiast, trying everything I can get my hands on and drinking tea every day.

My favorite teas right now are Silver Needle and Bi Luo Chun. I’ve also been enjoying my explorations in pu-erh which started with some samples at a tea shop in San Francisco. I’m no where near knowledgable yet, but I enjoy learning about it. I have found I do not like sheng! Oh well…

Outside of Chinese teas I also love exploring Japanese green teas. I’m not as proficient yet, but I’m honing in my tasting abilities.

As far as non-caffeine stuff goes, I am a huge fan of all things rooibos. I go through red rooibos by the pound. I’m also a fan of mint, ginger, licorice, and chamomile.

I’m a math system so I have a pretty in depth rating system:

All categories are rated from 1-10 and multiplied by the factor listed to the left and tallied to get a rating out of 100 for Steepster.

0.5 – Dry Leaf Appearance
0.5 – Dry Leaf Smell
0.5 – Wet Leaf Appearance
0.5 – Wet Leaf Smell
0.5 – Liquor Appearance
3.5 – Aroma
3.5 – Taste
0.5 – Value (Is this taste, aroma, and overall experience worth the cost.)
