This is the last of my first flush darjeeling samples from Upton. sniff

I should have purchased them all!

I’m not sure where my tea thermometer is (again) but this was steeped at well below boiling. Out of the 3 FF darjeelings I’ve had so far from Upton, this has the most classic muscatel or grape notes. The liquor of this tea is light yellow and the aroma is fresh and light. I don’t get the pungency Upton describes in their note, but maybe that has to do with the water temp I used. I am getting a lovely sweetness in the finish which is quite delicious. This is very tempting, especially for the price, which is less than some of their other offerings. I think perhaps I do like the others I reviewed a bit more, flowery and tropical fruit practically transformed me to a different place!

I’ve had my eye on this one for a while now. I’m pretty sure it was their numero unoo FF Darj of 2012-an early harvest. I have had three or 4 FF, and more 2nds from the Tinharia Estate, and have never been disappointed. Good quality tea at a reasonable price. I didn’t get any though (I wish I had), but I was focusing on a somewhat smaller order and other teas. Besides, if I purchased every tea (or even every sample) I wanted from Upton’s, I’d have to possibly not order from other companies. I really want to expand more into Puerhs this year, among other offerings from other companies.

Tindharia is a great estate! I also like Jungpana, Risheehat, Puttabong, Makaibari, Phuguri…….just toname a few. :))

Did you purchase these FF as individual samples or did they have a FF sampler package?

TeaBrat

I got them as individual samples

Scott B

ok, thanks.

ScottTeaMan

Scott, they do have a couple different sample Packs-4 or 5 teas in tins. Adarjeeling Basic & Premium sampler set, but I’m not sure if this tea is included in these sampler sets.

Scott B

Thanks, Scott. I saw a Darjeeling Sampler set on their site, but it included some 2nd Flush teas-which I don’t want. Plus, it made me wonder how old the FF were in that set. I have no problem ordering individually, just thought Amy had seen something on their site that I hadn’t.

I see Upton has some Thurbo-now, what’s up with RtR?

ScottTeaMan

I’m not sure about RtR…….haven’t ordered from them yet, but Amy had mentioned about their lack of 2012 Darjeelings (or something like that).

Dislikes include: bergamot, jasmine, highly tannic or bitter teas, overly judgmental and bitter people. :)

Live in San Francisco, I’m a SINK (single income, no kids) and love the urban life, but traveling out to the middle of nowhere is always fun too.

I tend to not drink things I know I will hate so a lot of my tea ratings are on the higher side. Here’s my rating system, sorta
