2816 Tasting Notes
I really need to remember not to buy anymore floral scented teas! Anyway I received this one in a sampler pack I got from the Mighty Leaf. I like the fact that it is organic but I just can’t get over the fact that I feel like I’m drinking shower gel. Compared to a lot of jasmine teas I have had this one is very smooth without a hint of bitterness, But yeah, it’s just not really my thing I’ve decided.
Pretty good for a flavored black tea, the cherry flavor is not too sweet, it is slightly tart with a layer of pine tree. I don’t mind that but I can see where a lot of people might find it strange. I recommend the Sakurambo Vert from Lupicia over this one…
This is a very pleasing, quiet contemplative cup of tea for me. Very light and floral, unlike some of the more recent oolongs I have been trying which are more on the buttery/vegetal side. I am still on the fence about whether I like floral type teas but I think this would be a nice, mellow substitute for something like a jasmine green. Pretty a-ok in my book but not totally riveting.
Preparation
Really one of the best flavored black teas I have ever tried. I was worried about the bergamot because sometimes Earl Grey hurts my stomach due to the amount of bergamot in it. Instead this is lightly citrusy with a touch of bergamot. It is excessively smooth and rich without a trace of bitterness. Boyfriend bought me a tin at the Harney and Sons in New York but I will be ordering more!
Another sample from Golden Moon – I quite enjoyed the unique experience of trying this tea. Very aromatic woodsy smell upon opening the bag, which opens up with the honey-ish flavor after steeping. This does remind me of a darjeeling but I like it better than darjeeling, i think due to the presence of the “woody” element which made it a bit sturdier of a flavor, if you catch my drift. When it comes to black tea I usually gravitate towards those from China, especially Pu-erhs which are among my favorite. I could see myself enjoying this Nepalese tea on a regular basis.
I got this as a sample from Golden Moon along with my iced tea set, it is not something I would have chosen for myself but here goes.
Very heavy rose aroma, like a lot of other people I get the associations of my grandmother’s soap. The rose scent is still very present in the cup after brewed. A nice ceylon tea which is very aromatic and flowery. I can’t quite make up my mind if I like it or not. It is definitely much better than I thought it would be. And it would be a nice tea for a gift, I think or at a bridal shower. Still, I have to surmise that maybe rose tea is just not my thing. I wonder if it needs some vanilla or chocolate?
I admit I drink a lot of flavored, jazzed up and funked up tea, especially at work. It gives me something fun to look forward to during the day! I usually start the day with a flavored black or green tea and then switch to oolongs or herbals in the afternoon.
At nighttime I really want something simple and light sometimes. This is a simple french verveine which I am really enjoying. I definitely feel it is mellow and relaxing and helps me a bit with after dinner digestion. If you have never tried it, the flavor is citrusy but not overwhelming (I am drinking mine straight). It does a slight licorice aftertaste. Next to chamomile it’s also one of my favorite soothing teas for frazzled nerves. I will really need to try blending this with black tea someday.
Preparation
I’m upping my rating on this today – still not my favorite but benefits more from a short steeping time – try 2 minutes
ok, not really my favorite. I agree with the reviewer that said she tasted a bit of bitterness in the black tea. I tried steeping this a couple of different ways/times and it didn’t really come out so well for me. I’m also not sure I like a lot of flavored black teas because it is difficult to get the tea/flavor balance really right.
Preparation
I recently got some high altitude oolongs from Naivetea to try. This one is sooo pleasing I could drink it all day. Very mellow, soft and mild. Vegetal and slightly floral with a delightful buttery aftertaste that lingers… fantastic if you like tea of this kind.
Make sure to keep the steeping time low for these, Naivetea provides very clear instructions for water temp & steeping times. Great for multiple infusions.
