60 Tasting Notes
I don’t know much about Kombucha except that it’s supposed to be good for you and it looks slimy and disgusting. For that reason, I avoided until last month when I had lunch at Poke CO with my friend Susanna. As she was deciding which flavour of Kombucha she’d have, I saw that Blueberry Lemon was one of the choices, so I decided to have some too. I loved it at first but by the time I reached the second half of the bottle, it did seem slimy and weird-tasting (though it’s possible that I didn’t shake it so it wasn’t properly blended).
Not long afterwards, I received a sample of Kombucha Detox with my order from Tea Squared, and my reaction is similar to the cold drink I tried last month. Some cups just taste pleasantly sweet, but others have the weird taste and almost slimy feel to them. I’m very curious and just might try this or another Kombucha tea again some day.
I’d never heard of Guangzhou, though I correctly assumed it was the name of a place, so that didn’t offer a clue. And milk as a flavour? I really didn’t know what to expect.
In fact, I had to drink quite a few cups before I could write my review. I think I like it. Most of the oolongs I’ve tried were sweet and/or fruity, and this was neither. It is very nice, but since oolong tends to be more expensive than most black or green teas, it’s not one I’ll likely order unless there is an irresistible deal.
I wanted to buy a black tea, but also wanted a change from the Earl Grey flavours I usually go for. I was hesitant to order this because it seemed like an odd combination of ingredients, but it really works! With no added sweetener, it has just the right amount of sweetness for me, and none of the bitterness you sometimes get with black teas.
Flavors: Fruity
Wow Wow Wow
I’m usually hesitant to write about a tea before I’ve tasted it several times, but I feel comfortable making an exception because this tea is perfect! Nice blend of Raspberry and Earl Grey, just the right amount of sweetness.
I received this as a Christmas gift and can’t wait to see the online store when it launches.
