5 Tasting Notes
After trying their Silver Needle I had to try Golden Monkey Paw too. Now I have no doubt why it gets good reviews on here.
This is a full bodied tea, and I detect a mild malty flavor. I had this yesterday morning before work and really enjoyed it so I had another cup when I got home and I’m sure I will be finishing this bag fairly quickly.
I actually discovered California Tea House through Steepster. So glad I did! This is hands down the best Silver Needle I’ve ever had. According to the label it is USDA Organic which actually sometimes scares me in terms of flavor, but this came out perfect. Smooth, soft and still well rounded.
@spoonvonstup I assumed going into a white tea that it would be much lighter as it should be. I didn’t actually do a second steep. I will let you know next time around.

I’m not a Pu’erh expert, but I am a big fan. I like the heritage in the process of this tea. It reminded me of slightly weak Darjeeling though instead of a hearty Pu’erh. I probably won’t have this again.
Wow! Where did you get a bit of this one? This sheng has been sold out for about a year now. Whoever gave it to you was a kind soul.
It’s true that this one won’t be musty and hearty- but then again, it’s not shu pu’er. It’s a sheng (green.. living). These age more slowly. As this is only about 6 years old, the living flavor is to be expected and enjoyed for itself. It’ll take another ten years before it becomes as dark as shu pu’er is, but it’ll be even more complex.
If there’s any of your sample left, I’d suggest hiding it away and trying it again as a real treat in another couple of years. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you Spoonvonstup. I had this with a friend who has more tea than she could ever drink. I make sure and get a cup of something interesting whenever we visit.
Clear Jade is a fine Oolong. The package showed up in nice form, not crushed and looking fresh. I finally broke into it last week. It took me awhile to try this tea even though it’s been on my mind.
The aroma is nice and sweet, which made me hungry. This is a good tea to have before a big meal, although the flavor is not as bold as many of my other favorite Oolongs.
I was a little taken back by the price and shipping for 1 ounce. Shang says 1ounce will make 30 cups, but I ended up with more like 14. I tried repeat steeping, but it came out too weak. Still a great cup of tea though.
This was a fair cup with good color and aroma, but it was a bit weak for me as far as an Indian black goes. I tried steeping another cup longer, which got mildly stronger, but the stronger taste wasn’t a better taste.
