1113 Tasting Notes

This matcha was a bit darker than I like my matcha to be. The overall taste has a bitterness that doesn’t align so well with the vegetable taste that matcha has already. I was able to try this a few times and decide that it was on to the next matcha and say goodbye to this one.

drank Gyokuro by Green Hill Tea
1113 tasting notes

Threw this entire sampler into a teapot to try it out and compare to some tea I had from the Uji district. This gyokuro is okay but it is nothing special. The quality isn’t horrendous but it also isn’t something I would recommend someone trying on their own if they had a choice.

drank Mystery Tea by TehKu
1113 tasting notes

To this day I wish I knew what this tea was…
There were pieces of chocolate in this mixture which initially made me think it’d be nasty. This tea had a very sweet taste as if a blueberry and a pomegranate had been smashed together and covered in a very thin coat of chocolate- but I still am unsure if this was an oolong, black, or green tea which is sad to say because I drink hundred of cups a year. All I know is that this was a wonderful cup and the mystery helps as well.
(It was sold as mystery and my sister bought it for me as a gift, I asked the store and they had no clue what it was either because I went there a few months later after finishing it off)

This tea looks nice and smells decent but the flavor is a disappointment as the chai chokes the green tea to death in your cup as it steeps. This brews a rather dry and rough cup with a dark green tea taste as if it has sat in your tea for longer than you left it (yes, that bitter taste)

Preparation
1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

I was a volunteer at summer camp and didn’t pack tea for the week long of adults watching Lord of the Flies happen before their eyes.
However, this is one of the teas that Bigelow provides in their sampler pack that the camp provided so I drank it at lunch every day that week and found that the pomegranate in this provides a nice pink/purple color to the liquid that I enjoy watching spew out into the water. This isn’t a terrible tea if I was to compare mass quantity tea bags available at Walmart but overall it still is quantity over quality with this tea. My ability to drink this each day was proof that it doesn’t fail, but it just isn’t a tea that I’d choose if I had ‘other’ options around.

This is one strong smelling and tasting tea. Heavily roasted mate with a small hint of mango. This has been a nice drink as a wake up tea. Overall it does what I want it to do but the taste is just too strong to drink throughout the day.

2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank White Grape by ESP Emporium
1113 tasting notes

Grape teas make me think the way parents go bout tricking a child to take medicine by using a flavored one. Thankful this tea did not have that sort of flavor which surprised me!
I brewed this tea hot the first time and decided then that it was a pleasant tea that should be cold. Then I started brewing it cold and realized that the white tea has a decent bitterness to it that doesn’t mix so well with the fruity notes of grape in this tea. As a grape tea it gets my thumbs up, but the white tea that is used needs a little bit of adjustment.

1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

This oolong cake is very delightful and quite complex. The initial smell is very mild which made me think that it was about to have a floral taste to it and I wasn’t looking forward to hundreds of cups of floral oolong… however, this oolong can be best described as a long lost cousin of Darjeeling labeled as an oolong tea created in 2010. It is about the fourth steeping that I have found the sweeter notes to come out and before that is a nice light oolong taste that mimics a Darjeeling. The cake is beautiful before you steep it and then it loses all those colors to become a nasty brown :/ , but that doesn’t change the taste of course. Overall my experience has been fantastic with it, if I were to change anything it would be to have stronger taste with the ability to brew it lighter as it is somewhat faint throughout (still tasty of course).

Do you happen to recall how long or hot you steeped it?

drank Sweet Orange by ESP Emporium
1113 tasting notes

I threw this tea into my french press to make my brother a cup of tea hoping he’d like it. I forgot that 32 ounces of hot tea isn’t an ideal amount for anyone in one sitting so I was able to sample it the first time I brewed it (which I’ve drank multiple times now).
I find this tea to have a strong yerba mate taste but without the strong bitterness. The orange taste is quite a nice addition to this tea. This is a better fruit blended yerb mate, however don’t expect a ‘sweet’ cup when drinking this- it might have a sweetness to it but the yerba mate keeps its integrity with each sip.

drank Pouchong by Faerie's Finest
1113 tasting notes

I don’t know why but when my friend came over I decided to put a hand full of this tea into my teapot (a literal handful).
This tea is quite floral but not overwhelming. Wonderful taste and I plan to take this outside when the weather is nice because it is subtle at the same time as quite indeifable as an oolong with floral notes. I am pleased with this tea and from now on I will use about 4 grams instead of half an ounce __
