2056 Tasting Notes
Thank you Izzy for tea bag to sample.
I took this, becasuse it should include green tea and I need something to wake up.
Weirdly I used boiling water (it was even recommended) and results are cloudy, somehow yellow brew with lots of dust.
I can’t smell cinnamon at all. Not even in taste. Ginger, black pepper and Fennel. Where is green tea? Some base is missing. It tastes like brew just from spices. At least it is warming up a bit. But taste is bleh.
Flavors: Fennel, Ginger, Spices
Preparation
A tea bag from Derk. Well, I think itwill be only US political tea bag I will have in my collection. Thank you, I bet others will envy me.
And it is 9.22 pm now. Which means, of course, a caffeine-free “tea”. Moreover I am still somehow hyped from energy drink I had to buy in a vending machine – in a work.
Peach and mint? Plus rooibos? Combo. Weird combo. We will see. I think I let it steep for 5+ minutes. Dunno exact time. Makes golden-bronze-copper colour.
Eh, okay. The smell is bit funky. Peach, but artificial, mint reminds me bit bubblegum, all together with woody scents.
Maybe I am bit sad that my (Swiss) friend is in Ecuador now? I feel like somebody betrayed me. Another friend (that one I was on his place while kids were in my home) is in Italy now. And I am just working every day. And then? I will spend it all on University. Okay, something I can take away, but I will need it later to pay it. Ahhhh! I need week off on holidays (and I know I just returned yesterday from one). But somewhere alone probably. Just enjoying the life. I was thinking about Austria. Gonna find out if it will work.

I ask why, but in my mind
I find I can’t rely on myself
♫♫
Tea itself is, actually quite okay. Not great. It reminds me really a bubblegum. Minty taste with sweet taste of artificial peaches. I did not liked it as much as I expected.
Chocolate pairing: Fig Lindt chocolate. How delicious – Fabiana, this was one of greatest you gave me.
Flavors: Artificial, Peach, Spearmint, Sweet
Preparation
It’s hard when your friends are scattered all over creation and not nearby for some eyeball-to-eyeball time when you need it!
Hope your “color” continues to improve! And regarding the tea—peach + rooibos is generally good, or any fruit tea + mint, but like you, I’m not sure about all three together. I have so much mint growing on my back porch, I have plenty to experiment with … I may have to try it with a straight-up peach tea.
Okay, week gone quickly. Back home, back with my teas. Back with pu-erhs.
It is Sunday, so why not make it special with Sunday Special tea?
I received it from Donatzsky, used 5 grams (all I had). So as well sipdown.
First steep, 10 seconds long, Bit watery :) As well… it was actually a rinse.
Second. 15 seconds.
Bit more body, some kind of typical shu flavour. Bit mineral.
Third, 30 seconds.
It is okay, still mineral.
Following ones were almost same; bit boring tea honestly. I expected something much more. But at least it is pu. Missed it. But shu puerhs won´t be my favorite probably.
Flavors: Mineral
Preparation
Quick tasting note:
I had it in the afternoon and now writing it after watching Cirque de Soleil show on TV. Love it!
As for “tea”, I took two teaspoons for 300 ml glass mug. Hot water.
Other family members thought it’s weak, unflavourful.
But my senses are saying something else. I liked light roasted notes, bit nutty, bit coffee bitterness (I had dark coffee just once, otherwise I drink cappuccino or latté, if I do).
It was interesting and I will try cold brew too.
PS: tomorrow I am leaving for week long holiday. No, or very limited internet connection. Taking my DF teas with me to drink while other will have afternoon coffee. I won’t make tasting notes for sure. I will be okay, I will come up with some very nice tea!
Enjoy your holiday! My daughter is in Prague right now and posting pictures of the beautiful places! She said she had an awesome taxi driver who taught her some Czech and recommended some places for her to go and things to do. She thought he was wonderful! So it is a very positive and happy experience for her!
Ashmanra: Woohoo I am happy for her that she got good driver and did not get some rude, fat, stinky driver. That’s certainly a good experience.
Leafhopper & tea-sipper: thank you both!
I have received this as a tea bag with my subscription. As well some secrets (how to order some blends those are not available anymore – I can share)
Moreover, it is “only” 5 months to Christmas!!! So it is perfect date to drink Christmas tea. Haha.
Okay. Ingredients sounds promising, scents not so much. Coconut is maybe too strong. It reminds me one Christmas sweets we bake. It is not bad. But bit artificial. Bit of marshmellow.
In taste it is really sweet, black tea base is not noticable at all. Coconut cookies, with cocoa (or chocolate) dip. Then the marshmellow appears here too.
In conclusion – I do not know. It is sweet (I am afraid getting a heartburn), cookie-like tea with hints of marshmellow. Honestly I thought it will be like this and it is how I expected. I am not a fan of it though.
Flavors: Artificial, Chocolate, Cocoa, Coconut, Cookie, Marshmallow

Is it right to share? Anyway – order if you want. I want, but I can´t. I do not have enough money left.
I broke my gaiwan lid. Myself. Sad. But it chipped quite clearly (smoothly, dunno correct word). Hopefully I can fix it. Somehow.
Used 3 grams for my 85 ml gaiwan. Maybe bit weak. But it is almost 9 pm.
First steep 15 seconds long pours dark bronze, clear and wonderful. I notice something like forest honey. Bit of malt. Bit citrusy? Wet wood? Walnut? (trying to smell what derk noticed)
I think bit of everything is there.
Oh, taste! This is unexpected like mollasses (never had it). But it is sweet and sticky. Maybe bit malty.
2nd is bit longer (+5 seconds max)
Citrusy notes are bit stronger.
3rd…
long, I forgot about it a bit.
Bit bitter, but citrusy!
Good tea! Thank you derk!
Flavors: Citrusy, Forest Floor, Honey, Malt, Molasses, Walnut, Wet Wood
Preparation
I have decided (same as yesterday morning) to make this tea grandpa style. So, four-five grams of tea, 300 ml of hot water (was boiling 3-5 minutes before I used it). So I guess it can have about 90°C.
Anyway, my cup is fulll of leaf now. It is making dark gold, of course bit cloudy – as no rinse was performed, with aroma of sweet malt, but bit spicy and bit of forest honey.
In taste it is light, but still somehow full-bodied tea. Nothing too much to write about, as it is just black tea :) but certainly it is smooth, enjoyable, easydrinking tea with low and nice price tag . Okay, it has got medium malty flavour with hints of spices!
I bought it for 14 dollars per 100 grams, now it is 3 dollars more. But still I guess very nice price.Edit: My Tasting note No. 200 !!! Woohoo!
Flavors: Honey, Malt, Spicy
Preparation
Congrats on 200! By the way, Martin, my daughter will arrive in Prague either Friday or Saturday of this week! She will only be there a few days before heading to Poland, though.
Ashmanra – thank you! As I wrote, she (or you) can write me anytime and I can try to be as much helpful as I can! I hope she will enjoy those few days in my country and Poland in the rest of her stay.
tea-sipper: thanks!
Martin: Thank you! I forwarded your helpful message and she has your email address now if there are any more questions!
Kawaii433: thanks a lot
Ashmanra: I hope I won’t be needed, but just in case I know at least the region. I now recall that you have asked about some vendors. I, unfortunately, have no idea. I usually order from abroad, as value price/amount is usually much better. It’s sad story though.
A sample from derk and gone! (Sipdown)
5 grams, 85 ml gaiwan, preheated, 78°C water in litre thermos. Combined with chocolate dipped orange as well from derk.
This is floral. Good for hot days. As today it is. Again temperatures attacking 30 °C in shadow. God bless that we bought awning last year.
1st steep
Aroma of wet leaf is full of fruit tree flowers! In taste it is very floral, bit of hay; white grapes skins, fruit notes (could not pick any though). NICE
Ate candied orange, I expected it sweeter than it actaully was. I enjoyed it. Good dark chocolate used too.
2nd steep
Fruity, sweet. Velvety smooth in palate.
3rd
I like those short steeps. Now it is peachy. Fuzzy in taste as well.
4th
Mellow, refreshing.
I lose my desriptors. It is just great you know.
5th
Fruity with floral notes. Fruit tree flowers.
6th
Good, good…
have I said it’s great?
I do not know how many steeps I made. Just enjoying it!
Flavors: Floral, Fruit Tree Flowers, Fruity, Grapes, Hay, Melon
Preparation
Uh oh. Hi there. Morning, 7.40 am – two hours till my train to job (and lunch). It is not best thing ever. But summer-job is good and well paid, so I can not complain.
This tea – I think I wanted to rate it, but Steepster was funky again and does not let me. But it works now. I have it in sachet right now.
I think I did recommended 4-5 minutes steep, although I wanted make it weaker. Whatever.
It is, as expected from Dammann Freres, very floral in aroma. But then different notes appear. Poppy seeds (love it btw), almonds, marzipan, pastry, biscuits… sweet notes!
In tastes it changes abruptly though. Tends to fruity notes now – mostly raspberry, wild strawberry, other berries. Combined with almonds, maybe bit of marzipan. It is quite sweet for my tooth.
Overall, it is quite good, but bit too sweet.
Flavors: Almond, Cookie, Marzipan, Raspberry, Strawberry, Sweet
Preparation
I received this in my first ever swap, and it was from teaequalsbliss, I think. I loved it so much my daughter bought some for me as a gift and that was when tea as gifts first started!
