9 Tasting Notes
Received as a gift from dearest Mum! I enjoyed this tea, but I found the recommended steeping directions made a slightly weaker cup than I preferred. The second brew, using less water for the same amount of time, was an improvement. A very smooth tea, altogether; unlike my usual breakfast teas which need a splash of milk to take the edge off, this was quite nice without.
Preparation
Second steep lost the apple a bit more, but the cream and caramel still come through softly. More apple pieces to nibble on help it retain a ‘candied apple’ taste. Should probably find out what Sour Apple is meant to taste like by itself, but I’m not all that surprised that it didn’t stick around at much at the second steep. Wrongly or rightly, I rather think multiple infusions are more fruitful in true teas. Still though, rather glad that the flavouring oils came through on the second infusion. I have a cream sample, but I much prefer cream in a blend than by itself, I see that now.
This could become something of a habit. I should make some and try it cold or iced even.
Preparation
Not sure how well the apple comes out between the cream and the caramel, but I like it all the same. After steeping I take the apple pieces out and put them in the tea, very nice to nibble on and pretty to look at. I prefer it sweetened but it isn’t repulsive unsweetened (I had some friends try it out with me, I don’t know if they’re fond of tea, but they finished what was in their cups, and I’d hope they wouldn’t do so if they didn’t like it).
Very nice to smell as well. A good snack or dessert tea, especially sweetened. The cream and the caramel do play nicely together.
Preparation
I normally mix it with my blacks, but I steeped it on it’s own for a ‘fair’ note.
Unsweetened:
Not bad for what it is. Grassier on it’s own than I expected. Absolutely love the smell, and it’s a pretty green. Citrus doesn’t come through as strongly as one would think by smelling it. For me it has an odd little ‘cooling’ effect around the tip of my tongue, not severe. A lot like I would get when I would use Blistex external analgesic lip balm and accidentally get some in my mouth, just a milder effect.
Sweetened (4 packets of Splenda):
Now it’s a bit like eating a flower (There are some little white ones that grow wild around here but I can’t remember the name, but this is like a lot of those). I think I used too much Splenda. I split a normal amount of tea between two cups but use the amount I would normally use for a full one.
Pretty drinkable either way. I like sweet things so naturally I prefer it sweetened, but I wouldn’t throw fits if I were offered it unsweetened as a guest.
Between the grassy taste and the cooling effect, it doesn’t get a whole lot from me, but I still love the smell and the slight lemony taste, and I can’t really fault a tea for being what it is.
Preparation
I love this ti and probably always will. I adore the taste of lemon, and everything is absolutely just right with this ti. The scent, the taste, and the beautiful red. I drink it sweetened because I have a die-hard sweet-tooth, but I would drink it unsweetened if I had no splenda to-hand.
My standard ’I’m cold and mopey, cheer me up magical drink!’ ti. Maybe I’ll find a new one someday, but I haven’t yet.
