5 Tasting Notes

Amaretto Matcha is my second favorite flavored matcha (over Caramel Matcha), and it tastes excellent! It has a strong and dominant almond and cherry taste exactly like Amaretto if you get it with at least the “Robust” flavor option, which I highly recommend, because you will not taste it nearly as well with the lighter flavor options. It makes a great dessert drink as well. Amaretto Matcha is also addicting, but do not worry, it will not get you drunk since it has no alcohol in it! Furthermore, it is much better made with lots of sugar than with Sweet ’N Low, and I prefer it iced. If you make it iced, make it by the pitcher to make it last longer, and use 1 tablespoon of matcha per pitcher. When buying this matcha, you have a choice between three grades of matcha: Starter (lowest), Royal, and Imperial (highest choice), but it tastes great with Starter matcha; the other two enhance the taste, but raise the price. I rarely drink it hot, but if you do, put 1 cup of water on the stove, but just wait until you see small bubbles in the pot, and use 1 teaspoon per cup of hot Amaretto matcha. Use 1 teaspoon per big glass of iced matcha too. I highly recommend Amaretto Matcha, and you can buy it at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/amaretto-matcha.html#.U6pjSrWTiSo.

I highly recommend Royal Matcha from Red Leaf Tea! It tastes excellent, and your dollar goes the furthest with this unflavored Matcha, so you will not be disappointed! It also tastes like green tea ice cream and has a relatively strong, vegetal taste (not as strong as Imperial Matcha, though)! I drink it iced all the time too. Make it by the pitcher to make it last longer. Use one tablespoon of Royal Matcha per full pitcher of water, and one teaspoon of it for one big glass of water (add ice after stirring it in the glass). When making a pitcher of Royal Matcha, stir it thoroughly with a whisk after mixing it with water to mix in all the remaining clumps of dry Matcha. If you wish to sweeten it, I recommend doing so with sugar because it is less sweet when sweetened with Sweet N’ Low. Like any Matcha, it will be more flavorful when made hot by stove, but do not boil it too much, because that degrades its flavor. Turn off the stove as soon as small bubbles rise to the surface of the water, and then remove it from the stove immediately. Furthermore, when you buy a flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea, you can make it even better by choosing the “Royal Matcha” option. Royal Matcha is my go-to Matcha because it is wallet friendly but still high quality! You can buy Royal Matcha at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/royal-matcha.html.

I strongly recommend Caramel Matcha as a choice of flavored matcha! To make it taste just like caramel, buy it with at least the “Robust” option. It also has a very subtle cinnamon taste. When you open the bag, it smells great, and it seems to taste better the each time you drink it! It tastes much better when you make it sweet with sugar, so if you make a pitcher of it with sugar, use at least 6 tablespoons of sugar for it, but use 2-3 tablespoons for a big glass of it. If you do not want to feel very guilty about all the calories from the sugar added to your Caramel Matcha, use Sweet ’N Low to sweeten it (1 1/2 packets per big glass), because Caramel Matcha does not come already sweetened. Caramel Matcha tastes best when made hot by the tea cup or coffee cup with sugar because hot water brings out the flavor more. I prefer my Caramel Matcha iced, though. To make it last longer, make it by the pitcher, because you will miss it when it is all gone! I will buy Caramel Matcha again because it is a great sweet treat, and you can get it at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/caramel-matcha.html.

I highly recommend Imperial Matcha! It is two grades higher than Classic Matcha (the lowest grade Matcha at Red Leaf Tea) and one grade higher than Royal Matcha, meaning it is more flavorful and better than both of them, but it is one grade below Connoisseur’s Matcha and two below Emperor’s Matcha (the highest grade matcha available at Red Leaf Tea). It also has a strong taste that is similar to Izu Matcha. Furthermore, it is extremely nutritious because it is full of antioxidants and even helps control weight. I prefer it iced and make it by the pitcher to make it last, using one tablespoon of Imperial Matcha per pitcher (makes 3-4 large glasses). Like all other matcha’s, be sure to stir your glass, cup, or pitcher of Imperial Matcha with a whisk to make the little dry clumps of matcha dissolve because they taste very bitter. If you like it sweet (that is how I like it), it tastes better and sweeter with sugar than Sweet N’ Low. If you buy a flavored matcha from Red Leaf Tea like Caramel Matcha, you can choose Imperial Matcha to make it better. I will definitely buy Imperial Matcha again (it is my favorite matcha so far), and you can buy it at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/imperial-matcha.html.

I strongly recommend Cotton Candy Matcha! It is a great sweet treat (especially for people on diets) with a lot less calories than other sweets that is very healthy (a lot healthier than bagged green tea); I like it much better than candy bars and soda, and it is a lot better for you than regular sweets! I got a 60g bag (large). I usually drink it iced, but it is great hot too. To make it taste just like cotton candy, you want to choose at least the “Distinct” flavor when ordering it and use sugar (about 5 teaspoons for a large glass and about 5 tablespoons per pitcher), not Sweet ’N Low. To make it last longer, make it by the pitcher using 1 tablespoon of Cotton Candy Matcha per pitcher. When making a large glass, use just 1 teaspoon of Cotton Candy Matcha. To make it hot, boil 1 cup of water on the stove, but not too high because it will diminish the flavor; put 1 teaspoon of Cotton Candy Matcha into a cup, and pour the boiling water in the cup slowly, then stir it. Drinking it hot brings out more flavor than cold. Buy Cotton Candy Matcha at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cotton-candy-matcha.html. I plan on getting it again.
