55 Tasting Notes

55 tasting notes

At the risk of being tossed right off this board…

Prior to drinking this, I thought the Organic Grapefruit from London Tea Room was the worst tea I’d ever had. This topped that.

This smelled absolutely incredible in the bag. Yummy maple aroma wafting out of the bag. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. I love maple. I love rooibos. Then I steeped it. I promise this isn’t hyperbole: this tea steeped smells like a house with too many cats. It tasted as awful as it smelled.

I’ll be sending an email to DavidsTea. Yuk.

NOTE: Removing my terrible, 1-point rating. We’ll see if the sample works out and I just got a bad batch.

D’oh! That is a truly unfortunate experience.

Kittenna

That’s really strange. This one really tasted like maple syrup to me; nearly the same as the aroma.

Missy

I tried it too. I think the rooibos is off. I did get a lot of maple syrup but I also got the undesirable flavor. There is burnt flavor to it that doesn’t mix right with flavoring. I wonder if you can chemically burn rooibos with flavoring stuff.

My big box of DavidsTea came today. This is absolutely lovely.

The aroma in the bag is fabulous. Very lemony with light bergamot notes. It steeps up clean and bright with a hint of creaminess and retains the lovely light lemony smell. I added a touch of honey for sweetness.

I typically like my Earl Greys resplendent with bergamot. It’s barely noticeable in this one, and that is just fine. I will buy this again and again.

At the risk of sounding ungrateful for the lovely care package Azzrian sent to me…

This is absolutely the worst tea I’ve ever drank. It smells like Country Time Lemonade and kind of tastes like it, too. It is incredibly artificial.

I know I shouldn’t say anything at all if I can’t say something nice, but seriously, folks. This is disgusting.

Now Thumper…..

LOL its okay Sandy! Its not my bag of tea either – notice you got the whole package that was left now … :) It was not AS awful to me as it was to you but your opinion should be shared good or bad! :)

Missy

I tried this tonight and I got dusty tang.

This is probably my favorite blend that I drink. That, and I’ll put the Raspberry Riot with just about anything.

This is extremely flavorful, bright and fruity without being overpowering. It tastes as good as it smells. The raspberry and lemon notes are at the forefront of this tea. They aren’t subtle.

The Youthberry levels out some of the fruitiness of the mate, with what? Other fruit. I suspect it is the apple that takes the edge off of the berry and citrus notes.

All said, I could drink this with breakfast every day. It’s a cheerful favorite.

This is the first in the lovely care package from Azzrian.

This is a very light, flavorful tea. I got more of the caramel and cherry in the aroma than in the flavor. However, the taste is pleasant and lightly sweet.

Yeah I don’t think this was one of my favorites – I probably sent you what I had left of it.

This is a big cup of yum. Hooray again for Portland and Whole Foods Market.

I love lemongrass and this has the perfect amount.

This tea smells wonderful and the lemongrass isn’t bitter or overpowering. I sweetened this up a bit with some honey.

One of the many teas I picked up at Whole Foods in Portland yesterday. This is the sachet version rather than loose.

This is a really inoffensive Earl Grey. The combination of Ceylon and Assam are a nice blend that make this a little more full bodied. The bergamot is extremely light. (I prefer heavy on the bergamot.)

I sweetened this up a bit with some honey and also brewed the sachet a second time. Both times came out about even.

I will continue to drink this as an afternoon tea.

You should have totally stopped by his shop down there. If I ever happen to get lost on my way to work, and end up in Portland on a weekday, I want to stop in.

Sandy Stith

I always worry I’ll get lost on my way to work and end up in Portlandia. :)

Missy

If he gets lost on his way to work and heads toward portland he better head toward tacoma first..

I tried this iced at Peet’s in Portland yesterday. They mixed it with Odwalla pomegranate juice and I loved it. I drank two glasses while I sat there with my friend and a book. They were out of this, so I went across town to find a box to take home with me.

This is a robust black tea. It brews up nice and strong and tastes good on its own. But why would I leave this by itself? I added Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost Fruit Smoothie to it and it’s delicious. I’d also drink this unsweetened and unmixed.

This tastes nothing like Earl Grey and nothing like pomegranate. It’s very mild with almost no fragrance to it. That said, it’s earthy and smooth and goes well with a little honey.

To say that this smells like potpourri is an understatement. This made me incredibly nervous. That, and Dylan mentioned that the other Davidson’s tea they have is actually being used as potpourri…

That said, I actually like this. It kind of tastes like unsweetened Kool Aid, which should probably be disgusting, but really just isn’t in this case.

Some other suggestions from Amazon comments (I believe) were to cut this with more hibiscus. That would be insane.

Next time I try this, I’m going to add a little sugar and put it over ice.

Don’t be put off by the really, really intense orange peel smell and that you really can’t taste the rooibos. This is still tasty.

And a foot bath!

Missy

Tea foot baths are extra nice! You get to smell good with your relaxing hot water. :D

Sandy Stith

I’m curious what you guys think of this stuff. I brought about 50 lbs of it in to work today for Dylan and Katie. If nothing else, you can soak your feet in it. =)

Missy

Well hot it tastes much like hot koolaid, just like you said. I think it’s a bit too tart for me so I added more sugar than normal. I didn’t really pick up on the rooibos either. I got the berry and tart mostly. Not sure where the orange is in this tea. I lost it, le sigh! Cold it really is like koolaid! I like it cold better. :D
