drank Sencha by Teavana

Not for me. Should have sniffed it at the store but tried to give it a go as I wanted to try a “plain” green tea. Ended up having to mix it with a tisane to be able to drink it. I’m just not a cultured tea drinker yet. Need mint or fruit in with my greens in order to stand them. Does that take away from the health benefits? Trying to ward off allergies with tea…not sure if the tisanes help.

I feel the same you do. I am not sure if I am ready for the subtle flavors of plain sencha. However, I would seriously doubt that adding a tisane to the plain ol’ sencha would have any negative impact on the health benefits of green tea…

I think fruits and herbs can only add antioxidants and vitamins and such! :) I like some plain greens but they have to be naturally fruity or floral.

Sencha is definitely an acquired taste, and let me tell you firsthand, that there’s a HUGE difference between a run-of-the-mill sencha and a quality sencha. Bad sencha makes you want to gag, while good sencha tastes like buttered grass.

Definitely an acquired taste, though! I didn’t really like it the first few times that I had it, but it’s steadily grown on me. Make sure the water is around 160 and don’t steep for more than a minute either! And the second steep should be anywhere from 5 secs to 30 secs. Or else it’s crazy bitter.

It’s really too finicky for me to drink often. :(

Live in the cornfields of IL, but not too far from the city. Expecting a baby any day now (due Oct 24 2011). Sticking to mainly herbal and low caffeine teas for now. Trying to encourage my husbands tea drinking, but he adds so much sweetner he may as well just drink diet pop. I love trying new teas, and will try any tea once.
