So far I’ve only ordered online from them once but it was a positive experience. One of the teas I ordered was out of stock but they held my entire order so that all 4 teas would be mailed at the same time. They even phoned and left me a voice mail stating this. :)

The tea containers themselves are brown bags lined with a waxy or some similar material inside to keep odors in the bag and not out. It’s not fancy but the design makes it easy to scoop out tea.

They’re a terrific supplier of Metropolitan Tea Company teas. Which can be a bit rare to find online because most of these teas are sold to tea rooms or re-branded to other tea companies. The prices range from standard to excellent, with some of their rare teas having insane prices. The only downside to T&H is that you must buy either 100g or 500g, so make sure you’re willing to buy that much tea.

I’ve been to their retail stores plenty of times, but only ordered online once.
Overall the online experience was positive. The online store is easy to navigate, I had no problems placing an order, and it arrived within about a week (I live in Ontario). Additionally, three samples were included free of charge (5g each).

Not sure I would order online again unless it was inconvenient for me to visit the retail store. But their new shipping price makes it worthwhile to order online anyway ($5 online shipping, which is the same as bus fare there and back)

As of writing this I’ve ordered twice from Life in Teacup, both experiences were good. I think the strength of this store is in the wide range of tea samples offered, along with the entertaining and educational tea blog. (Sometimes there are also special sales listed on the tea blog)

If you’re looking to try a lot of teas and further develop your palate, I would highly recommend checking out this online store. Good shipping rates, good prices, and good teas!

I’ve ordered lots of tea from this company, and each time the product arrives in good condition to my home. Living in Ontario, the wait from placing an order to receiving it is fairly average, so probably about a week or less. The one time I ordered a yixing teapot, it was very carefully packaged. (edit1: I also ordered a purion teapot, which was also arrived safely and was carefully packaged) I’ve never had to return tea or teaware for any reason.

The few times I have sent email to get more information, I’ve gotten replies very quickly. So if you have a question about a certain tea or teaware, feel free to ask them for more info.

And the tea itself, well just look at their online catalogue, it’s huge! They specialize in unflavoured teas, so if you are a fan of high quality tea or are looking to get into “plain tea” you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve only ordered from them once online, but it was a very pleasant experience. The tea package arrived from China to my house in Ontario, Canada in about 9 days. And along with the black tea samples I ordered, there was a free sample of oolong.

Overall I think they have a good balance between inexpensive shipping rates and excellent teas at reasonable prices (for their quality).

If you’re interested in purchasing from them, they appear to have small (25g) and/or sample sizes available. So you don’t need to buy very much to find out if you like it or not.

This is part of the 24hr Whistle Stop Cafe building. While I don’t think the tea room area has the same hours, the cafe staff may be willing to serve tea at odd hours of the night.

They primarily serve the Metropolitan Tea Company loose leaf.

Some of the best food I’ve had in Peterborough period. They have a daily menu, fresh baked goods, and loose leaf tea from the Metropolitan Tea Company (drink it there or take it home).

I believe they also do afternoon tea (call for reservation) and catering.

Best place in Ptbo to get loose leaf tea. The staff are knowledgeable and very friendly. On the two occasions I’ve been here, they have always offered me some tea to sample. They sell tea ware and accessories in the store if you need that sort of thing. Also they have a brochure you can take home that lists all of their current teas with descriptions.

Feel free to add me on Steepster, I’ll probably add you back. :)

I don’t log tea every time I drink it. Tasting notes tend to be about either one style of brewing or a new experience. It is helpful for me to look back on my notes and see what a tea tasted like or which steeping parameter worked best for me. I try to mostly short steep tea unless it only tastes better with a long steep. I’d rather experience what a tea tastes like over 3 or 12 steeps than just 1 to 3 long steeps.

When I write “tsp”, the measurement I use is a regular western teaspoon. Not a tea scoop

How I rate tea:

99-100: Teas that blow my mind! An unforgettable experience. Savoured to the last drop. I felt privileged to drink this.

90-98: Extraordinary, highly recommended, try it and you won’t be disappointed (and if you are, mail me the tea!)

85-89: Wonderful, couldn’t expect more but not a favourite.

80-84: Excellent, a treasured experience but not a favourite.

70-79: Good but could be better. Above average.

60-69: Average, unexceptional, not something I would buy again. Slightly disappointed. I’d rather drink water.

50-0: Varying degrees of sadness

No rating: Mixed feelings, can’t decide whether I like it or not, not enough experience with that sort of tea to rate it. A dramatic change of heart.
