Weird, drinking this tea is like tasting an oatmeal cookie. It’s definitely sweet, caramelized, and a hint of dark fruit. Brewed this in a small thick walled gaiwan, the flash and first brew were wasted, but as promised in the site description the 2nd-6th are a joy on the tongue. After 6th steep it levels out to a passable ending with just a hint of sourness.

I’ve enjoyed these Wuyis from Verdant, they are well made teas with fine structure, well balanced roasting, and processing. But I find them all too the same. This one has all the nice features of Wuyi but I did not freak on the florals which this tea builds its reputation on, it is also not that longlasting either in the mouth or in the steeps. Yet it is good tea

I’ve wanted to try their green oolongs, but the descriptions really did not represent a lot of variety, nor was I impressed by the Tie Guan Yin’s they offer.

I may be an old fuddy duddy, but I like my Tie Luohan to be smoky and deeply roasted. It grounds me as there can be no doubt that what I perceive to be Tie Luohan is that tobacco thick liquor that dries the tongue and pushes rock minerality into the crannies of my parotid glands till you cry uncle.
This tea I drank this morning is a sheep in wolves clothing. The heavy roast canine fur has been replaced with a softer wool and yet as much as my mouth wanted to reject the softer wool it, well, was a softer wool and who doesn’t like a softer wool! There are also some floral notes upfront and the dryness is there. So I guess I can live by this lighter style, yet sometimes I want a nasty smelling tongue numbing stogie instead of a kretek.

This is the high end Ya Shi from TeaDrunk, nearly broke the bank but it’s well worth the price. Overtly fragrant with lychees, orange blossom honey, and a hint of smokiness. The soup is enrapturing with a mid level butteriness and then flavors of lychee fruit , magnolia and a slight sourness at the finish which is surprisingly inviting given all of the over the top sweet sensations that come before. If you have the cash this tea has the flavor.

I visited their flagship NY store. Nice people and excellent teas, but none within my budget. I think with them, you almost are forced to aim high to get the most value for your buck.

Haha I’m uk based but thanks for the kind offer. . Hopefully getting a payrise soon so I might just have to take the plunge & get some, even if just a sample. Ya Shi is firmly up there with some of my favourite tea experiences, I find it intoxicating

Classic rock Shui Jin Gui, heads of aroma and flavors of plum abound, with a light roast. Steeped in Yixing 140ml pot, the flavors abated around the 8th with the rock appearing early. If you dont like Yancha because of the heaviness this tea will be a good alternative as its more light and airy.

drank Red Arbor Oolong by Teabox

Just received my order from Teabox for Diwali and this was a free sample included. From my forays into all things Indian tea from last year, Darjeeling oolongs are a softer version of the muscatels blacks from the same region but with a more pleasant complex aroma and flavor. This is a very nice representation of the oolongs I tasted previously, soft and light but with enough of a bouquet of dried apple to bring you in. Flavors of malt and plum pit and the faint rose finish the flavor profile albeit soft and gentle. Not much caffeine to speak of so I may purchase a bit to enjoy in the afternoons after some yard work and gardening.

Another outstanding year for this jewel of a tea. Vegetal tones of asparagus and spinach with a hint of sweetness and smooth as silk on the tongue. Really top notch. Pricey but if you need to pamper yourself this is where to do it.

I don’t do flavored teas, do to the overwhelming amount of straight teas to choose from, so I really needed to twist my own arm to try this free sample. I’m glad I did. The aroma as I opened the bag was in your face bergamot, but when I took my time to appreciate it instead of backing away I was floored with the nuance of the aromas. Yes bergamot leads the way but it is really not that overpowering and in a way fronts for the subtle notes of floral tones that I can best describe as a potpourri my mom used in my bedroom as a kid and I was a stinky kid at that.
The infusion also has the same aroma profile leading down the road to happy thoughts. Never gave aroma therapy much thought being a western ICU RN, but this really has calming effects. The flavor is exactly as the company says, “gardenia, white rose and sweet lime”, well rosy as I don’t think I could distinguish between white, red or pink roses. The bergamot is so well blended in with this white tea that you cannot discern it as an additive as much as part of the tea leaves. I have sampled some of Teabox white teas and they are pretty good and this base tea is one of them, unfortunately they do not list the variety they used.
Wow, that was a mouthful for me. Teabox is definitely one of my favorite companies, and as a rule the more pricey an item is the better the quality, but here they have really exceptional quality for all their teas no matter the price.

Plum, cherry, malt oh the malt. There is also a hint of burnt sugar and some dryness but it only adds to the allure. Mega bounciness. One of the few teas I can see myself adding some honey to. Brewed 7g in 220ml quick steeps.
