Great tea. But I disliked the first steep. Too bitter. I only steeped it for 2 minutes with boiling water. I then took a few sips, was unsatisfied, then poured it out. I then steep the tea a second time for 4 minutes with boiling water. I was much better but didn’t seem to have as much maltyness to it. Next time I’ll steep it for 5 minutes for the second steep. I think that would be fantastic.

I was surprised at how good this tea was. It is a bagged and what appears to be a dust grade tea. I didn’t expect it to be good. I just made it for some caffine. However, this tea was really good. It was not bitter like other dust grade black teas. It was slightly malty, and just plain good. I didn’t add anything to it. I would recommend this tea above Lipton and PG Tips bagged black tea.

I’m surprised every time I drink this tea. I expect a Darjeeling that isn’t as good being that it’s not a first flush (probably not a fair presumption). I’ve yet to brew it in a way that makes it astringent. I really that it’s a full bodied. Overall a surprising good Darjeeling tea.

Many zealots of Darjeeling teas actually prefer the second flush to the first.

Amazing Chai. I prepared this the “traditional” way according to the instructions Rishi gave. I put 2 tablespoons of tea in a pot and then put 1.5 cups water and then 1 cup of whole milk. I put the heat on low and let it come to a small boil.
Last time I used sweetened condensed milk for a sweetener but thought I’d try something different this time. I used German rock cane sugar which I thought was significantly better than using sweetened condensed milk. It didn’t taint the flavor as the SCM did. From now on I won’t use SCM in this tea ever again, unless that’s all I have.
Note to make it better next time: Keep the heat low (about 2) and let it boil at that heat to be steep it longer for a more full chai flavor.

drank Ceylon OP1 by Teas Etc

Sweet to the point where I thought I put sugar in it. therefore it takes sugar really well (something i normally don’t do to teas). a bit mellow. it went really well with the lapsang souchong marinated thin-cut steak i had for dinner. it was a perfect balance. a great tea but not one i’d want to have daily.

(This log is the second steep.) Just as I thought. This tea loses it’s astringency after the first steep. The second steep was much brighter and delightful. This tea is definitely a winner!

This is the first Assam tea I’ve had. I really enjoyed it. It’s malty just like a Ceylon but I’d think I would now prefer an Assam tea over a Ceylon, although I still really enjoy Ceylon teas.
It was slightly astringent but I get that from every black tea I brew on the first steep. I really liked how mellow and malty and sweet (without adding anything to it) this tea was.

A really good tea.
To me this is a sit and relax tea. But not a sleepy tea, although it comes off more as an herbal tea than a white tea. It’s more a thinking tea.
The citrus flavor gave me a bit of a zing and got my mind working. The citrus flavor was the more prominent flavor. There were also some less notable bright floral tastes. I can’t say too much about this one since I used only slightly less than a teaspoon for an 8 oz cup. Next time I’ll use a larger portion and steep it longer or use hotter water.
I can see this as a tea that I would drink often in the summer time.

drank Darjeeling 1st Flush by Rishi Tea
48 tasting notes

This tea was not made by me last time I logged it. This time it was.
This 1st flush is really amazing. The steeped leafs have a fresh cut grass smell. But the tea doesn’t smell that way. The smell and first taste were astringent. So I thought I wasn’t going to like it. However, it was only on the first part of the cup. The rest of the cup was slightly sweet almost described as fruity but I can’t think of a fruit to describe it. It had the sweetness of a fruit. I took a sip and couldn’t go more than 20 seconds without sipping some again. It was one of the best teas I’ve had in a while. I’m going to raise my rating from 79 to 83

…interesting review.
When I make myself a cup of black tea I always let it cool down a bit before I start drinking. If the tea is to hot it has this astringent taste,as you mentioned it on your comment. But 4-5min really have an impact as the tea comes across far milder or even fruity,as you wrote it…
Did you use tea bags or loose leafs? In case you were using loose leafs be a little bit more generous with your portioning and try to get a second brew out of it…the second one will be lighter and sweeter compared with the first brew.
Combine both brews (1st & 2nd) in a big mug…let it sit for a couple of minutes and you will taste things that you never would have realised before…
Tea bags won’t stand that test, by the way…

Tyler

That is such a good idea. I’ll try it. It’s loose leaf. I’ve never thought of combining the 1st and 2nd steep. I’m always nervous about using larger portions because I don’t like my tea strong. I also don’t normally steep it for as long as the tea company says. But I’ll definitely give this a try. Thanks for the pointers.

drank White Goji Blossom by Art of Tea

This is the most pleasant smelling tea I’ve smelt. It has sweet fruit and floral scents.
The tea has a nice hint of citrus, very light and refreshing. The goji berries really add a lot to the tea and give it distinct flavor that I haven’t tasted in any other tea. To date this is my favorite white tea.
