This is SO GOOD as a cold brew. So. Good.

I need more.

JustJames

i just ordered some! they’ve got a bonkers sale on!!!

Fjellrev

w00t! Always good to find a reasonable priced herbal to cold brew it up.

OMGsrsly

Yeah, I’m buying 100g. Most of my cold brew standbys have strawberries and oranges, and I’m avoiding those for a few weeks. :)

JustJames

free shipping at expedited too!!! yay!!!!!

JustJames

i’m grabbing some japanese tea: some hojicha among others =0) SO EXCITING!!!

OMGsrsly

I’m getting 100g this and 50g almond marzipan rooibos. Haha. $11, and they ship for free. Yeah!

JustJames

cough….. i might not have been as conservative. lol. but still, budget watching always. and i do need to cut my caffeine down, so i grabbed 3 herbals and this was one of them!

OMGsrsly

I have Too Many Teas, James. Too Many.

Sil

215 ish isn’t thy bad :)

OMGsrsly

Sil, I haven’t tracked how many I have. I think it’s closer to 250/260…

JustJames

i don’t even have 100…. and i try very hard to sipdown or i have a hard time looking at my wife, lol. my tastes change a fair bit too… and if they change then i hand off to fellow students who are more poor than me, lol.

Fjellrev

Damnit, James, now I’ve been surfing their site. Those are some killer deals!

OMGsrsly

I have SO MANY SAMPLES. People are so generous, and it takes 3-4 cups to drink the whole thing down.

JustJames

okay, maybe that’s cheating on my part? i do not count swap samples among my supply. mostly because i wouldn’t share them, lol. nope.

OMGsrsly

Yeah, I have about 100 samples. Still going through them, trying them, tossing some in a (new) box for my brother. Oh Sil, he LOVES the Wild Purple Buds Puerh from Butiki.

Dexter

Samples don’t count? I don’t have to count samples?
What’s this sale I’ve been hearing about?

OMGsrsly

http://zentealife.com/ , Dexter… End of season sale.

JustJames

MYSELF i do not count samples. i have a huge mug i use (16 oz) so a sample is often only 1 cup. i only list if i’m going to share, otherwise it makes me look like a jerk. OMGsrsly…. such a temptress, lmao, and to dexter who’s been drinking. not nice! =0D

OMGsrsly

I’m learning from the best cough James and MissB cough. I add them because I like the random tea generator. :) It helps me make up my mind!

Dexter

I was kidding, I CANNOT buy more tea. I bought a bunch from Zen during the BF extravaganza. Those are still in the box amongst several other boxes in a pile that I haven’t really even looked at yet. (Still I’m wondering why I didn’t buy any of this blueberry in that order…..?)

JustJames

rules are rules dexter, i have 200g coming. i can ship some off np.

MissB

Heh. Dexter, I just sent you a HUGE box of tea – you too JustJames! I also add all of my samples/swaps into my stash, for the same reason as OMGsrlsy. Love the random tea generator!

MissB

Also, fellow Vancouverites, did you see this? http://zentealife.com/tea-quiz

JustJames

no fair!!!

JustJames

oh…. and i do not use the tea generator. i am a stick in the mud. =0P

OMGsrsly

Huh. I hadn’t seen that. Oh well! I’ve tried almost everything now. :)

Dexter

MissB – that box is the reason I’m not allowed to buy more tea. I really need to find cupboard space for it and all my other BF orders that are still just lying around. Hmmmm buy new house?

BAM! Sip down. I was gone all day and when I got back, I was so thirsty. The cold brew didn’t have a chance.

(neither did half a bottle of wine)

TheTeaFairy

Oh, tea and wine, my two favourite beverages. They both work hand in hand, don’t they :-)

OMGsrsly

Oh hey! I just set this one up to cold steep. :) I’m debating bringing the WHOLE JUG with me tomorrow.

JustJames

i haven’t opened mine yet! =0D

Fjellrev

Tea and wine really do go hand in hand! I’d love to experiment and make a sangria with a fruit blend sometime. :)

TheTeaFairy

Aw! That’s an awesome idea! Let’s think of the perfect match and get back to each other on that :-)

Sil

tea cocktails today@ the festival were soooo goood!

JustJames

ooooooh. ideas!

Great blend by Zen Tea – Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try it.

Suggested steeping time was 4-5 minutes. I’ve found that Zen’s steeping times are always spot on in every tea I’ve tried from them. I steeped some batches a bit longer, at 8 and 16 minutes respectively.

At 4-5 minutes; You’ve got a beautiful tisane. Really lovely.

8 minutes; Very strong tisane.

16 minutes; Extremely juice-like. My man likes super strong flavours, so I was making this batch for him as an iced drink.

Flavours overall didn’t go through much of a transformation, which I think is good because they were already so well balanced to begin with. On the whole, I tasted currants and hibiscus the most. There were definitely blueberries in the berry mix, but it became a little hard to pick individual notes out. I didn’t find a yogurt note anywhere, nor did my man.

I liked this tea, but didn’t love it – which comes down to personal taste preferences really. It seemed like a wonderfully balanced blend and good quality however, so I’m pretty keen to try it in another flavor (Strawberry Cream, I’m looking at you!) at some point.

I’m drinking the last of this herbal as a cold brew, and it is very nice. I like the whole sweet/tart mix of flavors. This tea certainly shows off its best side when cold brewed. Something I’ll have to remember if I reorder at a future date.

This definitely smells like ripe blueberries out of the bag, and a bit less so after steeping. I was surprised at the first sip how much this does taste like blueberries, if a bit tartly (kind of like a dry wine). Truvia made it juicier, yet drier at the same time. The raisins are definitely prominent.

I like this, and I can imagine it amazeballs as an iced tea. Yummy, although I’d prefer it a bit more complex. Maybe it’s the cold, so I’ll definitely try this again in a few days.

Dang, I thought this was a sip down, but apparently I didn’t add it to the cupboard in the first place!

Mostly a berry flavor with a little blueberry. The lemongrass in this blend adds some interest and pep without being flat. Sadly, I do not notice any creamy or yogurt flavors.

In between all these caffeinated black teas I’ve been drinking all day, I decided to try another new tea and made a cup of this. I was pretty sceptical after reading the ingredient list and smelling the tea, as it smelled soo darn fruity and there’s just so much in it, I didn’t know how it would taste. I also worried it’d be fairly tart due to the hibiscus. I steeped for 4 minutes in just under boiling water. Ehh, the steeped smell is a bit tart and fruity, not sure if I’m a fan lol. The liquor is also a bright pink, definitely hib in there.

As for the flavor, it is definitely fruity. I’m trying to figure out which one is the most prominent, I think it’s the hibiscus, currants and apples. And also maybe the citric acid? I am getting a tart almost lemony flavor, but more like orange vitamin C tablets haha. Just the aftertaste though, so don’t be too freaked out. It does say there’s vitamin C in it, so maybe it’s a similar flavoring? Haha, not much yogurt flavor, or blueberry for that matter.

Overall, it’s not nearly as scary as I thought it would be from the dry scent, with all the fruits and flowers and blargh, more like potpourri (sp?) than tea. I might use the rest of my sample to make some iced tea to see what that tastes like. Not a bad tisane, but not my favorite.

Not especially blueberry – appleberry, I would say! (Especially after DT’s Blueberry Jam, which is super blueberry-y.) It’s quite good though, one of my free samples from my last order.

Sipdown (157)

Thank you Dexter for sharing this tea with me. I know I had this before but I can’t seem to find a review. I used what was left for a cold brew and I think it was underleafed. In this cup, I’m getting mostly lemongrass and hibiscus. It was definitely juicy but the blueberry was overshadowed by the other elements. I believe the first time I had this was better as it was more balanced.

Mixing this one with some peppermint tonight as I wanted something tasty but that would settle my stomach a bit. I’m sadly not getting a lot of the blueberry. It is proving to be what I needed for my tummy though, thank goodness!
