From Yunnan Sourcing

This is a special varietal of Purple “Ye Sheng” Wild Tree Tea. It literally grows wild and this “sweet” sub-type is the most rare of all. It took 3 people 15 days to collect and process just 15 kilograms of this incredibly unique tea.

The processing is very simple and involves brief withering and hot dry air exposure to halt the oxidation. The resulting tea is incredibly unique and is like a floral bouquet drenched in watermelon juice. The floral character is something like rose both in taste and smell. This tea is totally unlike any other tea I have ever tried, and not only is it unique but it’s very complex and goes many many steeps.

Harvested in Jinggu County of Simao

Thanks Derk for the sample! As has been pointed out numerous times, this is a very unique tea. The bouquet is mostly floral while the taste is vegetal and slightly sour. The main notes I get are rose and dill, and they are surprisingly pronounced, especially the latter.

One thing that this tea has going for it is the pretty looks. I am glad to have tried it, but this is not a tea I need to have in my cupboard.

Incredible cold brew. I steeped it overnight, using 3 grams to a liter since they’re so powerful. The aroma of the liquor was a delightful watermelon backed by rose that I could smell 2 feet away and that’s while it was cold! It’s mouthwatering. The fruit note reminded me strongly of Ouch! watermelon gum mixed with Big League Chew gum from the 80s. The taste was rose backed by watermelon, a little astringency and faintly bitter. It had an aftertaste that lingered long, not at all what I was expecting from a cold brew.

Again, the flavor profile isn’t my thing but I wholeheartedly recommend this tea as a treat for fruity and floral lovers. Take it easy on the buds if brewing gongfu and know when to stop.
