2000 YI WU SHAN AGED RAW PU-ERH TEA BRICK

On the binary scale of “would buy or would not buy” this gets a 1. I like it.

I’m into wet-stored Pu-erh. old, dank, wet earth, wet towels, etc. It has a good wee bit of astringency, a little sweetness, but no complexity, thickness, or qi. in later steeps it has a nice subtle creamyness in the back of the throat.

This is the first tea I’m trying from my Guangdong storage sampler from YS. I haven’t yet cracked into the kunming storage sampler yet – it’ll be an interesting comparison. I’ll come back to this later when I’ve tried some other teas.

Not excactly my cup of pu!

This is a personal preference – because it seems I am not that much into wet stored or more humid stored Pu’s – The wet atmosphere isn’t as strong as some others especially from Hongkong tend to be but it is definitely a constant aspect. After 7 steeping I wasn’t in the mood anymore to wait any longer for a change in taste to come. So maybe there

is a change within the steepings after the 10th or so but for me the basement bit moldy structure was not exactly my cup of tea. I am sure there are many lovers for exactly this kind of a profile but for others it is good to know what they get. Definitely not a bad aged Sheng but just for the ones who really like the wet-ish storage! Next time I should read the information a bit more carefully because I totally missed the “wet” part :D

If you have no problem with a little bit of wet storage aroma, and like a clean & tasty aged tea, this could be it. What this tea does not have, and probably that`s why it is still kind of very affordable for a 16 years old Yiwu: no high tones of dried fruits or in any way very complex aroma nuances and not a very good mouthfeel (it is rather thin).
But I would definitely not call this tea boring or flat, or not complex at all… it is just what it is, good aged well tasting tea, without aroma explosions or any super-special sensation.

Woke up early and couldn’t get back to sleep. So I figured I might as well have some tea. I won’t have time for any caffeinated tea after work so now is the time. This was a nice raw with a little bit of wet storage taste that I noticed in steep one. Didn’t notice it i steep two or three but found a little in four. There was a nice flavor to this tea. I want to use the word honey, yet I know that is inaccurate as it was not at all that sweet. This tea was fairly astringent. I noticed astringency through all ten steeps. There were also some mild notes of leather and tobacco but not noticeable. Overall this was a nice tea but it had it’s downside to it. As to qi I am really not feeling it.

I steeped this tea ten times in a 120ml gaiwan with 8.4g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse and a 10 minute rest. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 min. For those who like the flavors in aged sheng this is probably a good pick. I recommend it with reservations.

Didn’t drink it today: I used up the last session of my sample maybe a month ago. Decent strong aged tea with humid taste throughout, no camphor taste for me.
