From Yunnan Sourcing

This “Golden Pu-erh” is made by a special process of fermentation. The tea is fermented in bags instead of piled and the fermentation period is more than 70 days but at very low temperature and kept relatively dry, whereas normal Pu-erh is fermented for about 45 days. This particular “Golden Pu-erh” is composed entirely of buds. This slow fermented Pu-erh is sweet in taste with sugarcane tones and a thick tea soup with hints of glutinous rice taste. The tea liquor is copper-red like the tea leaf itself. A special tea with subtle but full and textured flavors and a mouth-feel not unlike a good raw pu-erh!

Sampled this tea after work this afternoon
Rinsed/pause/10/20/40/60/90/120

The dried leaves were beautiful an amber golden color. Looked to be all tea bud.
The tea itself smelt deep and dark (my two favorite ripe aromas)
It infused a deep red color.

I found there was a distinct bread/wheat taste with almost a raisin aftertaste.
The later infusions were very enjoyable failed to take very good notes but lots of complexity to this tea.

Noticed fair amount of qi which was warming me up after the 3rd back to back infusion.

This is an interesting tea. If you like Special Dark, you should give this one a try. It’s the same style. To me it tastes like a cross between a shu and a yunnan black. It’s got that golden bud shu flavor, coupled with some sweet notes typically found in yunnan black teas. Pretty smooth, though it is definitely somewhat bitter.

I really like this tea. Dark bittersweet chocolate and cream of wheat. No earthiness. all leaves are whole golden brown. The brew is clear copper-red color. I haven’t noticed rice notes. If you like Special Dark by Mandala you will enjoy this one. they seem similar.
