From white2tea

A blend of sun dried white tea from Yunnan sent to a smokehouse in Tongmuguan village in Fujian to be pine smoked by a veteran Lapsang smoker. The three day smoking process occurs at temperatures from 100C to 120C in an old style Lapsang smokehouse.

A fun experiment that melds the heavy bodied white tea that Yunnan is known for with the smoke of a Lapsang. The results are a beautiful and affordable cup of tea that’s far outside the box.

As I took in the dry leaves, the first thing that hit me was the intense burnt wood aroma. Every steep releases that same smoky goodness, but in the best possible way.

At first, the smokiness is strong and bold, but as the tea steeps, it begins to mellow out, revealing subtle hints of pear and a fresh, crisp finish. It’s really an interesting experience, with each steep bringing a new flavor transformation.

Grandpa Style!

Of the new smoked tea releases this year, this was the last one I needed to try, and it seems like I may have unintentionally left the best for last. The soup of this tea is quite thick and almost creamy, with a heavy yet sweet and floral smokiness that permeates all facets of the sip. One thing I especially like is that after the whispy fog of smoke has settled the flavours that spring forth are very cool, crisp and fresh. Petrichor. Cucumber pulp. Morning dew. It’s an incredibly well-balanced and nuanced feeling tea without skimping on that robust camp fire smoke flavour that I also crave and love.
