From Verdant Tea

This early spring harvest from the He Family is the exciting first harvests of the year picked after the protective cold-weather greenhouse coverings are removed (Da Tian Harvest) and finished as classic curled Laoshan Green tea. The exposure to sunlight makes for a bright rich vibrant flavor- one of Mr. He’s favorites of the year. The cooler air the tea is exposed to without greenhouse covering helps balance the increased sunlight for rich, sweet, early-May harvests.

Produced By the He Family

Pioneers and community leaders in Laoshan Village, the He family was one of the first to plant tea on the misty ocean-facing slopes of the Taoist Holy Mountain they call home.

I’m trying to stick to my tea-ban, I really am. But, I’m running out of new teas to try, and that brings me such joy. So, I’ve placed 2 Verdant orders. Their sample sizes are too perfect. I’m very glad I got this one (and I’m sad it’s only a sample). I haven’t been drinking a ton of green teas, even though they used to be my favorite. Oolongs and blacks have stolen my heart. But, this is my ultimate green. Nice and nutty, with roasted soy bean and soy sauce notes.

I’m also drinking some (ancient) Laoshan at the moment.

Also my ultimate green.

This year’s early harvest Laoshan green tea was superb. Lush aromas of soy, leafy greens, nori, and oats. The steeped tea is fresh and full bodied, sweeter than the later flushes with pronounced notes of anise and kettle corn. I prefer slightly cooler brewing tempertures, around 175 F, to bring out the delicate sweetness. Hotter water makes the savory, toasted notes stand out more.
