From Verdant Tea

For the first year ever, Li Xiaoping is excited to be making Dragonwell Black Tea! She uses the same delicate early buds as her famous green tea, hand-picked from the slopes of Shi Feng, raised on sweet mountain spring water and covered in high elevation mist to protect against sunlight. After light twisting and rolling, this sweet, rich and distinctly mineral-laden tea is then set out in bamboo baskets and loosely covered for ten to fifteenRead more

2021 Sipdown 94/365!

Another sample sipdown. I grabbed this not fully reading the package, so was expecting regular dragonwell, oops. Clearly not. However, it was a nice evening cup the other day – a light but flavourful black. Not overly rich or chocolatey, more of a hay-y flavour? I can’t really recall.

Spring 2020 harvest.

This tea reminds me of why I need to drink black tea more often. Lots of luscious chocolatey goodness here. Rich dark chocolate aroma and flavor with a light malty sweetness. Most of the chocolate fades upon resteep yet still retains a nice honeyed flavor. Quite similar to Verdant’s standard Laoshan Black but with a little more depth.

Flavors: Dark Chocolate, Honey, Malt

What, a black dragonwell? But it sounds so tasty!

Definitely, the name alone enticed me. It’s good but doesn’t quite match measure up to it’s greener sibling.

I never had fresh dragonwell, so I can’t tell; but this is certainly sometrhing I would give a try for sure.
