From Verdant Tea

This small-batch green tea is a labor of love, with Mr. He carefully twisting the tea by hand into tighter bilochun-like curls. The deeper more savory flavors that come out in bilochun twisting bring out the best in Laoshan green, and after three seasons, it’s no secret that this is Mr He’s favorite to tea share with friends and family. We wholeheartedly agree, and are excited to share the new 2014 Spring harvest of this innovative green tea with you.

This is a fairly interesting tea, definitely the most interesting green tea I have had to date, though not my favorite. It has a looming scent and flavor not dissimilar from what, for the sake of tact, I will call Spruce. Alright, tact aside, cat pee. But it’s not terrible, it’s mostly a scent, just don’t overbrew it and it brings out interesting notes. There is definitely a creaminess, and a garden fresh green flavor, and a cinnamon note, and floral like jasmine. Al of these things combine to bring interesting flavors that I have never found present together in other teas. Overall I recommend it, though I recommend trying a small portion before you invest in 100 grams or anything.

I’m a little late reviewing this one from the club but I’ve been in a green tea mood today and finally pulled this one from the shelf.

Opening the bag I am met with the strong scent sweet honey suckle and dry grass.
The leaves are thin, curly and consistently dark green.

Flavour is light and fresh, the super sweet honeysuckle coming through and lingering in the after taste. Also subtle hints of toasted grass and butter. Leaves mild dryness in the mouth.

This was delicious! A sweet and gentle green tea that though became dry, has freshness that makes up for it. Perhaps the sweetest Bi Luo Chun I have ever tried.

Made a pot (5 cups) of this at work to spread around. Both it and the second steep of it were drunk by quite a few people around. At least 5, not including me.

Everyone thought this was quite nice. One person told me it tasted like spinach from a can (and that she liked spinach from a can, so that was okay). It tasted a bit like that to me and also soybeans.

I did enjoy this tea, but it’s been a very very long day and I am ready to be done with the world. Done done done. So very done.

So I was talking with Lariel about biluochun earlier, and I remarked that I’ve never actually had the green variety. So tonight when I felt like a green, I pulled out this sample that I got free when I ordered their Laoshan Black Chocolate Genmaicha. The leaves are dark, almost evergreen, and they’re quite thin and twisted. They’re not really very snail-shaped at all, though some of them are slightly curled. Dry scent is sweet and mildly vegetal with a bit of hay aroma. I was unsure how to steep this, so I just did the same thing I would do with sencha, 1 minute at 175 degrees.

The brewed aroma is sweet with mild spinach and butternut squash scents. Wow, I think this is the best green tea I have ever had… It’s so amazingly smooth and creamy in texture, with a lovely butteriness that coats the tongue. It tastes like pure sweet and creamy butternut squash. And just when I thought this tea couldn’t get better, there’s this amazing and light sweetness that creeps up at the back of my mouth and throat at the end of the sip. It reminds me of the nectar of a honeysuckle flower – a clear, dewy sweetness with a hint of floral. Delicious!

Stephanie

I loooove Laoshan greens :)

Lariel of Lórien

Yay! I’m a tea influence.

Cameron B.

Stephanie, I’ve had the Spring and Autumn harvest of the regular Laoshan Green, but this is in a whole other league. :D

apt

try a normal, non Laoshan Biluochun as well. Biluochun seems to vary a lot based on where it was grown

I received this as a sample in my pre-order verdant order. It’s not one i would necessarily order, but i’m happy to try greens every now and then. this green tea is sweet and creamy. it’s not overly vegetal but it IS clearly a fresh green tea. thanks to verdant for letting me try this one!

Wow. This is the creamiest pure green tea I have ever had. I received the sample from Verdant with my last order. I still don’t swoon over green teas so I opened all the other stuff first. I wanted a new tea today and this is the only thing I have that’s unopened and untried. (Not in the mood for all the pu’ samples I have in a box from a tea friend).

I ripped this open and I sniffed it out right away. The sweet creamy peas are so fragrant! Ok, there’s no peas in here but that’s what you smell. Now that the pouch has been open it is not as strong but man, that first sniff was delicious. If I take some in my palm and keep smelling them, they smell so sweet, and somewhat toasty. But only if you insist on sniffing, it is not apparent at first.

I used a sort of western/gaiwan method for brewing because the verdant site said 4 grams of tea for a “medium” gaiwan. Errr, what’s a medium? I mean, we measure the time, the leaf and temperature, I’d like to measure the water too. So the western instructions said 6-8 oz water. I put it in a gaiwan. And I steeped not 3 seconds like they say (?!?) but 50. I know, I’m all over the place.

I have no idea what their steeping instructions would render but what I made here is so so good. It’s creamy and sweet, like bean sweet, and I’ve never had anything like it. Very pale brew. Drinking it out of tiny cups that came with my glass gaiwan. Pretty. Because, you know, we don’t just gulp this stuff around here! :)

Thanks, Verdant!

I think verdant have some of the best green tea out there…
Lol at “medium gaiwan”, would it be so hard to just say “in a 5oz gaiwan” if that’s what they mean?

I like 45s start for the first steeps of Green teas. It was what was recommended for gongfu, by a guideline I have had success with. Glad you enjoyed the tea.
