From Verdant Tea (Special)

cocoa + orange + malt + clove + angostura

Restore #6 is the sixth in our line of seven premium scented teas.

Our partnership with Minneapolis-based Intelligent Nutrients comes from the shared philosophy that what you put in your body should be sourced with integrity and made with care. They grow many of their botanicals on their farm in Osceola, Wisconsin, where they have their own still for making essential oils. Like us, they seek to challenge industry standards to promote a healthier and higher quality lifestyle.

We are excited to work together to offer truly premium scented teas. The finest perfumers and the best tea farmers come together to create something new, thrilling and – of course – wholesome.

Intelligent Nutrients’ Restore #6 is deep and spiced like Angostura bitters. It feels supremely comforting and complete. We pair it with our most popular tea, Laoshan Black from the He Family in Laoshan Village. Laoshan black is deep, malty and chocolatey. With a chocolatey black tea and certified organic spiced aromatic essence, we complete the mix with clove, orange peel and licorice root for a beautifully sweet and comforting tea.

Ingredients: Laoshan Black Tea, organic clove, organic orange peel, organic licorice root, Intelligent Nutrients organic Restore #6 (castor seed, orange peel, grapefruit peel, cardamom, lavender, bergamot, patchouli, cinnamon leaf, matricaria flower, vetiver, everlasting flower, ravintsara leaf, rosemary, oregano, geranium flower, cinnamon bark, marjoram flower, black pepper, thyme)

Western Brewing
Use 4g of tea ( 1T ) in 6-8oz of fresh-boiled (205°F) filtered or spring water. Steep for 30 seconds in a brew basket or equivalent. Enjoy many infusions. Add about 20 seconds with each steeping, or to taste.

Iced Tea (Cold Brewing)
Use about 4 grams of tea for every 12oz of water. Combine with room temperature water in a covered vessel and refrigerate for 8-12 hours. Enjoy!

Iced Tea (Flash Chilled)
Use 1TB (5 grams) of tea in a 6-8oz vessel. Steep for 30 seconds with filtered boiled water. Fill a martini shaker (or equivalent) with ice, then add brewed tea and shake until well-chilled (usually 10-30 seconds). Pour out through martini-shaker top over fresh ice in a new glass and serve.

2022 Sipdown 30/365!

Yuck. This tea has a certain flavour in it that I really detest – I have no idea what said flavour actually is, but it’s really offputting and I hate it. Also, licorice. I don’t often dump teas, but I did dump the last of this one. I just really did not like this blend at all.

Maddy Barone

Since I hoard my money and tea is an expensive luxury, I used to force myself to drink the whole cup. I am still broke, but I have decided that if I do not like a tea, I will pour it out. It’s so freeing to empty the cup and brew something I like.

Shae

I finished my bag of this one about a month ago and the licorice was so overpowering in that last cup.

Kittenna

@Maddy – Yeah, I’m similar. I rarely dump anything because I feel guilty about it – I almost always resteep teas for the same reason! It’s freeing to dump out something like this and not subject myself to choking it down!

@Shae – ugh, my nightmare. The licorice thankfully was not overpowering in this cup, but the strong mystery flavour I detest was quite enough to ruin the experience for me anyhow!

This is very, very light in color and flavor. I should have used two teaspoons, even for a 6-ounce cup. It’s smoky with a lingering licorice aftertaste. I can taste clove as well, though it’s overwhelmed by the cloying licorice. Ultimately, I’ll be drinking this one down quickly so that I can start on another cup of (hopefully) better tea.

I literally winced when I read smoke AND licorice! Thank you for trying this one so I don’t have to ;)

Shae

I love the smoke, but licorice is a big NO for me!

I received this from the Verdant Blend Club for April, and this is also available on their website. There is a lot going on in this tea due to the many ingredients, but the sweetness from the Laoshan Black and licorice root are ever-present, with the herb flavors (from the rosemary, thyme, and oregano) coming through more toward the middle-end. The typical chocolaty notes from the Laoshan black tend to meld very well with everything, and there are some very subtle fruity notes here from the orange peel, grapefruit peel, and bergamont… but only a hint. Some sips are sweeter than others, especially as this tea cools. I’m really enjoying the licorice sweetness which tends to hit me in the back of the mouth/throat, while the other flavors are more ‘forward’ on the toungue/mouth.

I found this to be fairly complex and unique and I recommend you try it if you are a fan of licorice sweetness, herb flavors, or if you just can’t get enough of Verdant’s Laoshan Black variations.
