The attractive leaves of this organic BOP selection produce a cup with a pleasant aroma and a clean, full body. The liquor has a natural sweetness, dark color, and notes of fruit. While organic selections from the Assam district are often difficult to find, the Banaspaty estate is proving to be a consistent source of quality.

I am still on a liquid restriction, but this morning I wanted this tea.
Awhile ago (before the great dry period of 2013) I ordered from Upton.
I ordered a bunch of their sample packs, which most are sitting untouched.
But, Hubby and I have tried this tea and really enjoyed it, and today I awoke thinking of it, so I muttered “Screw you, Doctor Mark” and made myself a cup.
And not my tiny amount of tea, an actual mug of this tea.
Its malty, chocolately and some slight figgy fruityness
No milk or sugar in it for me, but I certainly think it would stand up well to some.
This is a tea that seems quite manly to me.(My hubby enjoys it)
It is robust, and full flavored but it also does not have tart tannins.
Just lots of eyelid opening flavor.
Perfect for a brisk spring morning:)
This is a nice mellow fruity assam tea. While its not as strong as some assams I have had its still great. I’m not sure I have ever meet an assam I didn’t like. This tea is brisk and somewhat robust but the mellowness and lack of bitterness makes a good breakfast or afternoon cup of tea.

Time to show some love for one of the workhorses of my current cupboard. I drink it often for breakfast and usually blend it with a bolder, maltier Assam. But yesterday I had an upset stomach and drank only ginger tea, so this morning as I warily re-entered the world of normal food and drink, I steeped the Banaspaty solo and let its fruity mellowness soothe me.
Backlog:
This is a really long overdue backlog, I just came across my notes on this one and didn’t log it here. On the one occasion that i had this tea, I oversteeped it a tad and it was a little bitter. (Don’t oversteep it!) But, beyond the bitterness I could taste a robust, rich flavor with a fruity, wine-like note. This is one of those wine-y type Assam teas rather than a malty Assam. I did get some notes of malt but it’s not quite as malty as other Assam teas I’ve had.
A good Assam that would have been better if I hadn’t oversteeped it, I think. For that reason, I won’t rate it.
