Maracuja Flavored Tea

Attempt 2 at this one. And conclusion? It’s kind of odd. A bit nutty, a bit fruity. Kind of peach-ish, but a bit play-doughy as well. Not one I think I’d really want to drink again, unfortunately! It’s nice and lacking astringency, but as I’m not a big fan of black teas anyhow, this conclusion is less than shocking!

this enticing sample came to me by way of MissB.

not a blend i would normally have purchased for myself, but lovely to try nonetheless. this tea is stewed apricots in a cup! i have tried mangosteen, lychee, dragonfruit and any number of other exotic fruits that make steepster’s autocorrect put endless red squiggly lines under my writing.

i had never heard of maracuja before, and i will likely forget the name until i read it again, lol. i will however forever remember this blend as rich, heavy, juicy stewed apricots. delectable.

Sorry Steepsters I have been so busy this weekend and have not got around to reading many tasting notes or even tea logging.
I did finally get to enjoy some of my Maracuja from Upton and I really love it! SOOOOO good when cold!
I fell asleep exhausted with a nice new cup of this beside me – woke up and it had cooled of course – was room temp (which is COLD since hubby likes air conditioning set low! I wear a sweater lol) and so yummy!
I am so glad I went for a large bag of this one when I got my samples! This is the only one I decided to go full size on!
Perfect for summer!
I like it hot as well but I feel the flavors really woke up and the tea base was also present when cool.
Since I was so unhappy with Upton’s Peach with Pieces this was a welcome new tea love!

I don’t understand this tea. Maracuja is passionfruit, and this tastes like peach.

I mean maybe there’s a little itsy bit of passionfruit in there, but for the most part this is peachy. And no, passionfruit doesn’t taste like peaches, it’s like a pineapple and a guava had a baby that rolled around in citrus juices.

So, considering this now as a peach-passionfruit tea, it’s pretty delicious. I bought a sample and I’m glad Azzrian sent me a bit more because I will gladly drink it up.

I steeped it for 3 minutes after the fiasco that was the summer tea blend from Upton, which said 4 minutes. Even at 3 min, the black tea is showing a good bit of astringency.

I think this has to be far better iced than hot, and I am drinking it iced. It’s so fruity that I think the black tea would be entirely lost underneath the flavors hot.

A sample plus what Azzrian sent will be enough for me! It’s good but not something I’ll feel the need to keep around.

sipdown! (276) as I’m pretty sure this is a tea my friend would love. Thank you Kittenna for sharing this one with me. This is a tea that tastes like peach. it’s not a bad tea…there’s no astringency or bitterness and it’s pretty smooth. But it’s not a tea i love, or need in my cupboard. It’s a fairly average tea with not a whole lot going on. there are better black peach teas out there that i’d pick before reaching for this one.

Note to self……pass on this one. I am thinking it was some version of passionfruit tea, but not one I would consider owning. Brewed to specifications on tag. As far as a rating goes, I am not qualified to rank this one as it did not appeal to me at all.

Edit to add…..It was too much fruit flavor and not nearly enough tea flavor. It was kind of like drinking dried fruit except wetter?

Today has been an overwhelming day! I got some amazing gifts in the mail from my wonderful family which made the fact that I feel like utter and complete garbage a lot more tolerable. Even though my body is a wreck my spirit is practically vibrating with happiness, ’tis the season after all. Today though we have a tea that is evocative of Summer, for those living in warmer climates.

Maracuja Flavored Tea from Upton Tea Imports is a China Black Tea flavored with Maracuja (Passion Fruit) Essence, Sunflower blossoms, and Sugared Peach bits. The aroma is very sweet and tropical fruity, not tropical like coconuts and palm trees but more like exotic tropical fruits. There is a tart citrus tone to it and mild notes of floral that make me think of dragonfruit or soursop.

Steeping the tea gives the leaves a maltier flare with bright citrus notes and a tropical flare. I can definitely tell that this tea has the essence of passion fruit and peach since both are noticeable. The liquid is malty and bright with sweet, fruity notes. It smells very dessert like and exotic.

The taste is mildly malty with a bit of tartness and citric tones. For all the tea’s sweet aroma the flavor is not very sweet so adding a bit of sugar does not cause it to become saccharine. After I added a bit of sugar I noticed the taste of passion fruit and a tiny hint of peach. This tea is not bad, not spectacular but certainly enjoyable. I found that drinking this tea iced was also enjoyable, making it a good choice for summer sipping.

I’m usually not a fruity tea drinker, but this one was pleasant. Very smooth, fills the mouth with fruity smoothness, no overpowering flavors. I have no idea what a Maracuja is, but it’s tasty in this tea.

Sort of peachy, but mellowed by.. the Maracuja perhaps? Try it, one dollar sample pack. I DARE YOU.

This is an interesting blend. Its a basic black with a whisp of acidity and the fruit comes through a bit in the smell and aftertaste. I taste and smell peach, mango, apricot and almonds. It is not however overwhelmingly sweet; just a bit refreshing and tart. Almost like the jammy notes you’d find in a big red wine. I would definitely drink again as the fruit notes are light handed which is hard to find in the fruit flavored teas.
