This one was pretty good to me, we drank it with milk and sugar because Lance wanted it “breakfast/british” style. I was quite bold and nice and it was actually pretty good to be drank as a “breakfast” tea but to me it was lacking in one area, I would have loved to have some of that yummy Assam Malty notes in this, I was just not malty at all like I like my Assams, but it was still very good tea :) Even better about it was that Lance and I created a memory together by having this tea together this morning and talking about it and comparing notes, we don’t often enough share a cup of the same tea so that was Boss!

Oh Yeah Please follow Lance here he won’t be on much to talk about teas but sometime he does, thanks guys :) he is http://steepster.com/Bluii

Tommy said it was lacking something but you can read that in his note, We had it like a breakfast tea with milk and sugar and the bold tea taste still came through really strong.

Tasted three Upton CTCs today. This one was my least favorite, and not worth the extra price over the other two. I tasted all three teas with milk.

Compared to the Upton Halmari and Irish Breakfast CTC teas, the leaves on this one looked more golden – a mix of gold and dark. The size of the granules were between that of the other two teas.

The tea seemed bitter at first, but this went away. It was dull compared to the Irish Breakfast. Good body, but no malt, just kind of blah.

Yeah, you nailed this one. Our impressions exactly…

Kitty

Thanks – I did revist the Irish Breakfast CTC just recently and it was very good.

Kitty reviewed this one just right. It’s just kinda “blah”. The only advantage of this tea might be the short CTC steeping time.

This is the first time that I’ve consciously drank an assam tea so I don’t have much to compare this to. Its a very smooth tea, so its perfect for people who don’t have a strong preference for flavored tea. Someone else said that this tea is bold, but I’d say its actually quite subtle with a slightly malty aftertaste. I picked this up because it was one of the ‘best sellers’ on Upton Tea’s website, and I could only rationalize that people like this because its so neutral. It would be interesting to mix this tea with something really bold, to see if it would smooth out the flavor.

I think I chose this one for a christmas gift tea due to the good reviews on the Upton site. My dad seems to like this one but it took a few times to get a good brew time and leaf ratio (less leaf and less time is best). This certainly does brew up strong and quick. It has a nice metallic and amber twang to it without bitterness. Of course I compare this Awesome tea to my favorite S&V CTC tea in my head and this comes up up short in the complexity department. I’d like to do a head to head taste test but I need to restock the Assam Beesakopie to compare. I would add this to an Upton order if I was low on Assam.

Drinking tea with your dad! Love it. Mine was a coffee guy and never trusted a restaurant that didn’t serve it or have a coat rack.

Michelle

He used to be an Earl Grey guy but now prefers Lapsang, Assam or Jin Jun Mei.
