Irish Breakfast

Not my favorite basic black tea…but makes a pretty decent iced tea that my dad is a big fan of. Almost has a pretty red color…am I imagining this?

I have tried many different teas. Some expensive. But when I found this one, I went “this is it!”.
Strong, yes! But that’s just what I need in the morning. As long as you drink it hot, it won’t be bitter.
And at that price, it could not be beat.
Except that TJ’s discontinued it – as of June 2013!
Not the first time that they pull one of my favorites off their shelves.
So, now, they have replaced it with “something” called Iris Breakfast Tea too.
But it ain’t the same at all. The new box is yellowish, not green and smaller. The tea bags are smaller as well. And round. And the worst part, this new tea tastes like… Anyway, I just had to throw the box away!
Oh well, so I am searching for a good tea again…

Well, it’s not a subtle tea that I want to sit around savoring and reflecting on or anything, but it’s a workhorse. I keep it in my cupboard for chilly gray mornings when I need a dark heavy bolt of quick caffeine. Rounded out with some raw local honey or a dash of cream and sugar, it’s not bad.

This needs sugar. It’s a strong tea, stronger than the Trader Joe’s English Breakfast which I am a fan of. I find that it’s rather bitter for my taste on it’s own and needs sugar in order for me to enjoy it but it isn’t my favorite. On the plus side it gets me up in the morning.

I bought really cheap tea at Aldi’s – $1.46/100 bags. I wasn’t crazy about it. Reminded me of Salada Tea which I can’t drink. So I decided to move “up” to a Breakfast Tea at Trader Joe’s. It is too strong. If I leave it in the cup for brewing more than 15 seconds, it isn’t worth drinking. I think I’m headed back to Lipton. Think I’ll try another brand of English Breakfast, but for as often as I drink the tea, I didn’t want to pay an arm and leg. Perhaps I should opt for loose tea.

It’s not a tea that I savor or drink often, but surprisingly I crave it once in a while. Cream, sugar and some comfy pants.

I usually don’t drink Irish Breakfast since you have to put milk in sugar in it, and right now I’m working on enjoying tea in its natural state. It’s fine, I can see why there are mixed review on this one. A friend gave me a few bags since she knows I enjoy tea, I don’ think I would buy this on my own.

Reminds me of the Irish saying “tea so strong you could trot a mouse on it.” Watch the steeping time as it can get bitter quickly. I found it a bit too strong, strong for even Irish Breakfast, but my Irish born father liked it a lot. Not bad.

I generally like a stronger tea for breakfast and English breakfast sometimes seems weak to me. Some Irish breakfasts, like Stash, have a bit of a note that I like. This Irish breakfast is strong like others but without that top note. Like someone else said it is good for my morning buzz and a step above grocery store teas. I left the bag in the pot and the tea did not change over time.

I’ve tasted a lot of Irish Breakfast teas; this is not my favorite.
