Sipdown. Took two sips of this and poured it out. Far too much jasmine.

I have already had a lot of black tea today, so when youngest said she was making tea and asked if I wanted some I initially said no, thank you. But awarding that kettle made the Pavlovian reaction as expected and I started hunting for something. Since I did lots of black tea, I chose this green.

This is a novelty tea, so I was afraid it would be pretty bad last time I had it. But it is really drinkable, even if not the finest example of green or of jasmine. It is a cute tin, a pretty standard green base, and a decent if sometimes mildly soapy jasmine.

I want to get this tea set mostly for the tins!

I actually did buy it just for the tins ;)

I am sure that is why my daughter bought it for me. They call me the “Geek Goddess”. LOL! I got the Control Alt Delete Cups for Mother’s Day and TG Monkey Picked Oolong! These were for Christmas!

Missy

haha those sound awesome!

This one fell the shortest for me. It was the most powerful jasmine. I found the green tea base after I waded through the heavy, cloying jasmine. I got the standard green tea taste for a few seconds after the tea had cooled. This is the kind of jasmine tea that will give me problems. It’s like drinking sweet swamp water. They should really rename it to hulk smash jasmine tea. If you’ve found that your jasmine is weak before, give this a shot. It should clear that right up for you.

First, I tried the Timmy’s 1UP Jasmine Green. I’m a fan of jasmine, so I was quite curious about this tea. Good looking leaf, but not highly fragrant. On drinking, it shows itself to be a nice, fairly standard jasmine green. A little heavy on the green. The jasmine was not soapy (always a worry with jasmines) but didn’t quite have the sparkle or lively quality of other jasmines. It was a little flat. But in general, a nice standard jasmine. Quite drinkable.

I’m going to hold off rating this until I actually brew up an entire pot. I tried my gaiwan with this and was shocked and how shredded the leaves were and there were also a lot of stems. At times it tasted a bit soapy. So I’m thinking that jasmines aren’t the best teas to drink with gaiwans if they’re green tea based.

Got the four-pack sampler for Christmas. Agree with other tasters – way, way too much Jasmine. At least, I assume that’s what it is, since all there is in it is green tea and Jasmine and it wasn’t green tea I tasted. If you like Jasmine/floral flavors, give it a go.

Note: All the ThinkGeek teas have exactly the same preparation instructions – five minutes, boiling water. I used water of a temperature more appropriate for green tea. Didn’t help.

Up until recently; I purchased tea in bags. I decided to start off with the Timmy’s Tea Sampler from Think Geek. I started with the 1UP Jasmine Green tea. I steeped what I’ll admit was too much tea leaves in 212 degree (Fahrenheit) water for 5 minutes as was directed, and it was very bitter, but not being one to give up easily, I tried again with less raw tea, steeping at the same time and temperature, and it had a lovely flavor and aroma.

I have to admit a lack of experience with green teas in general, and this is my first try of a jasmine. I’ve had one other green from Hawaiian Vanilla Company, which tasted VERY different from this one. Even in the tin, this smelled like cut hay to me. After steeping, more so. Not really my thing.
