From The Tea Table

Now more osmanthus flavor! A delicate China green tea scented with osmanthus, a flower native to China and prized for its peach/apricot aroma. Osmanthus flowers are said to improve digestion and make the tea drinker live a longer and more healthy life. Good hot or for iced tea. Use 1 tsp. per cup and steep 1.5 – 2 minutes in steaming water.

Backlog: I had some of this last night, and I found it to be a little disappointing, really. I suspect it is because it’s a rather old sampling. The tea, overall, tasted rather dull and lackluster. I didn’t taste much from the osmanthus, and the green tea just kind of was meh. I didn’t even finish the cup.

And because the sample was a little aged, I won’t rate this numerically, as I don’t think it would be a fair representation of what this tea might be like fresh.

Batrachoid sent this my way! Thanks so much!

This is pretty good. It’s a mellower floral green and when pipping hot better than when it cools. The floral flavor is better when hot, I mean…it leaves a bit of an aftertaste when cooler – but nothing I can’t deal with.

Maybe immortality is not a real side effect of osmanthus but smiling certainly is. Usually I find it in oolongs so a green with the famed flower made me happy. Given how dark and brittle the osmanthus look in this blend, I was worried it wouldn’t have any taste but it’s exactly the opposite. The osmanthus flavor is fresh and strong (well, strong for osmanthus) like it was just harvested. I think the floral citrusy taste works much better with the light buttery grassiness of green tea than the plum and peach of most of the green oolongs osmanthus is usually used to scent. It makes me wonder how well it would do with white tea or lemon verbena. Definately picking up a bit more of this.
